Tuesday, September 15
6:49 a.m. Grand Marais:
Fifth Avenue West, public
assistance. Provided traffic
control for the drive-thru
flu shot event.
8:56 a.m. Grand Marais:
First Avenue West, animal
disturbance. Caller wanted
to know what the plans
were concerning the
nuisance bear problems.
There was a bear near the
Lutheran Church eating
garbage.
1:10 p.m. Gunflint Trail:
Pincushion Overlook,
person lost/found. Caller
reported that her husband
was suppose to return
from a hike over two hours
ago and was worried that
he might be lost. Search
and Rescue staged at
Pincushion. Visual contact
was established early on.
Hiker had lost his phone
and when he asked other
hikers for directions, they
kept sending him to the
Pincushion Mountain top
rather than the parking
lot area. He was safe and
sound and did not need
any medical assistance.
11:12 p.m. East Highway
61: damage to property
in a road construction
area. Caller reported that
someone on foot just ran
behind a local business
after knocking over all of
the orange cones on the
highway. Unable to locate
suspect.
Wednesday, September 16
12:34 p.m. Grand Marais:
Broadway, animal
disturbance. Small
bear cub reported to be
downtown and out at
Artist Point.
3:52 p.m. West Highway
61: animal disturbance.
Caller reported that a bear
was on a trail in the woods.
It was not harming anyone,
just being a bear.

7:00 p.m. Cedar Grove
Lane: public assistance.
Hiker from Pincushion
area got lost and ended
up in the business
development area north
of Grand Marais. Hiker
was accompanied by two
dogs. Transportation
was provided back to the
Pincushion parking area.
10:47 p.m. West Highway
61: animal disturbance.
Caller wanted to know
what to do about a
nuisance bear that had
visited the dumpster
earlier. The bear was in a
tree near a cabin now, but
not causing any trouble.
Caller was referred to a
Conservation Officer.
Thursday, September 17
3:43 p.m. Gunflint
Trail: unknown trouble.
Transfer call received
from Goodhue County
for possible domestic
incident happening in Fall
Rivers, Minnesota. New
information suggested
that the location of the
incident was River Falls,
Wisconsin. Contact
information was given
to the caller, the sister
of possible victim. Sister
was then able to find the
actual address. The address
was in Thief River Falls,
Minnesota. Pennington
County Sheriff ’s Office
was contacted and the
concerned sister was able
to get direct assistance
from the right authority.
Friday, September 18
10:05 a.m. West Highway
61: Suspicious activity.
Surveillance cameras
showed that someone was
trespassing across a locked
gate and had walked up
to a front door on private
property. Investigation
determined that the gate
was not vandalized and
a package was left on the

front step. Turned out that
the person who plowed the
property in the winter had
noticed a package at the
gate and brought it up to
the front door.
7:39 p.m. Grand Marais:
Animal disturbance. A
black and tan German
Shepard was found
running on East Fifth
Street wearing an orange
collar. Possible owner
was contacted. It wasn’t
his dog, but he contacted
other German Shepard dog
owners to see if the dog
belonged to them. The next
day, the dog’s owner called
to inquire if anyone had
seen the dog. The owner
paid the $30 pound fee and
was able to pick up the dog
from the city dog pound.
Saturday, September 19
8:10 a.m. Public Assistance:
Fraud/Scam reported.
Woman said she lost
money due to a mega-dot
lottery. A deputy from
another county reported
that the woman had sent
about $20,000 in cash to a
suspect in three separate
payments: $1000, $9000,
and $10,000. They were
able to stop overnight
delivery of $10,000 and
have it returned to sender.
The woman reported
that she did receive the
returned package.
Sunday, September 20
3:48 a.m. Grand Portage:
Vehicle prowl. Caller
reported that someone
had broken into their
pickup truck. Suspect was
described and left on foot.
Alcohol had been stolen
from the truck the night
before. Attempt to enter
an RV also occurred, but
lights were turned on and
occupant yelled out the
window, then the suspect
left.
