Tuesday, August 4
10:28 a.m. West Highway
61: Public Assistance.
Driver was stuck at the
blocked road near Fall
River Road and didn’t
know how to get to Grand
Marais. Driver was advised
of the highway detour, how
to get on it and where it
would bring him.
12:53 p.m. Grand Portage:
Mile Creek Road, Theft.
License plate stolen from
federal vehicle at the
monument.
1:11 p.m. Grand Marais:
Eighth Avenue West,
Animal disturbance.
Small skinny bear cub
has been hanging around
the neighborhood.
Conservation officer
contacted.
Wednesday, August 5
8:54 a.m. Sag Lake Trail:
boat and water detail.
Warnings issued to
individuals for not having
life jackets and to groups
for not having enough life
jackets for all the group
members.
10:59 a.m. Grand Marais:
Fifth Avenue West, Fraud
reported. Caller stated
that they received an
unsolicited package from
China. Inside the package
was a do-it-yourself toy to
make.
3:30 p.m. East Highway 61:
Trespassing. Surveillance
cameras observed two
people, one male and one
female, trespassing.
5:19 p.m. Unknown
trouble. Kids observed
swimming in the
Temperance River near
the high falls, in deep pot
holes. Caller said the kids
seemed to be struggling. It
was teenage boys and they
were fine.
6:14 p.m. Paradise Park
Place: Public assistance.
A nuisance bear had been
shot dead and needed to be
hauled away.
10:40 p.m. Lutsen: Public
Assistance. A whole family,
except for a 17 month old
child, got locked out of
their rented townhome
and were unable to contact
a night manager. The father
of a young man that shared
a place with the person
they were trying to get
hold of was contacted. That
person reached someone
on site that helped the
family.
10:56 p.m. Fradenburg
Drive: Possible domestic
disturbance. Caller
reported that the neighbors
were screaming: they could
hear a female yelling” stop
it” and a male yelling about
calling the cops. Seemed
to be a younger couple
that had been arguing for
about twenty minutes.
Investigation determined
there was a very loud party
taking place around a
campfire. There was yelling
and loud music playing as
well. People at the scene
were intoxicated, but they
insisted there were no
domestic problems. They
were advised of the late
hour and that they needed
to tone down the party for
the night.
Thursday, August 6
1:48 p.m. Gunflint Trail
Boat and Water detail:
Gunflint Lake. Kayaker
escorted off of the lake
due to no life jacket.
Other groups also had
insufficient life jackets for
their members. Another
incident involved a family
entering Canada with no
paperwork.
3:00 p.m. Caribou Trail:
Motor vehicle with trailer
accident. Caller stated that
the boat and trailer he was
towing came off the ball
mount and landed in the
woods.
Friday, August 7
1:32 a.m. West Highway
61: Motor vehicle accident
with animal. Caller
reported that they hit a
bear on Highway 61 in
Lutsen. Caller was okay;
bear was dead. Caller
wanted to keep the bear
and had loaded the bear
into his truck. Caller was
connected with Minnesota
State Patrol Dispatch for
game warden assistance.
8:40 a.m. County Road
7: Medical assistance
requested. Male, age 69, fell
off scaffolding from two
stories up. Experienced
brief loss of consciousness,
was able to move feet and
hands. Transported to
North Shore Health.
1:45 p.m. Sawbill Trail:
Suspicious activity
reported. Four hours ago,
a picture and video were
posted on Snapchat that
showed three males in a
gravel pit “playing” with an
excavator that seemed to
have the key in it. The men
were identified, located,
and interviewed. One
man admitted to driving
the excavator without
permission and was issued
a citation for tampering
with a motor vehicle.
4:35 p.m. Grand Marais:
Eighth Avenue West:
Motor vehicle accident
with property damage.
The front of a truck was
wrecked and a camper
was ripped up too.
Insurance information was
exchanged.
11:59 p.m. (one minute
before midnight) Pike
Lake Road: Sound of shots
fired. Caller reported that
gunshots had been going
on in the area for the last
twenty minutes. Caller
thought they might be
target shooting.
Saturday, August 8
11:21 a.m. Clearwater
Road, north of Swamper
Lake: Vehicle fire. First
responders reported that
vehicle had sprung a leak
and started smoking. There
were no visible flames or
smoke when they arrived.
Traffic control was needed.
The towing service picked
up the vehicle and the
passengers.
11:26 a.m. East Highway
61: Welfare Check. A
personal safety alert
system was triggered and
the person could not be
contacted. Investigation
determined that the person
had fallen and could not
get up. Party refused
medical treatment, but was
assisted off of the floor and
settled in with their walker.
Sunday, August 9
3:46 p.m. Fall River Road:
Theft reported. A Trump/
Pence 2020 sign was stolen.
