Tuesday, July 21
8:35 a.m. Gunflint Trail:
Civil matter. Woman was
selling a vehicle and ended
up giving the vehicle
to buyer before getting
payment. But buyer did not
have money to pay for the
vehicle, so woman wanted
the vehicle returned. While
in buyer’s possession,
the vehicle had some
mechanical problems and
was no longer running.
Woman still had the title
and no papers were signed.
Since there was a verbal
agreement, this was a civil
matter and would have to
be settled in court.
12:56 p.m. Gunflint Trail:
property lost/found. Caller
reported that a Mongoose
mountain bike was found
on their property. The bike
was brought to the Law
Enforcement Center.
1:40 p.m. Pike Lake Road:
neighbor problems,
harassment. Woman was
unhappy that new property
owners were parking on
the side of Pike Lake Road
and having campfires, so
she gave them the finger,
flipped them off, and may
have yelled profanities at
them.
7:34 p.m. Gunflint
Narrows: Public assistance.
Caller stated that they were
driving and had swerved
to miss hitting a bear up
on the Gunflint Narrows.
Vehicle ended up in the
ditch. Towing service
contacted.
Thursday, July 23
9:07 p.m. Arrowhead Trail:
Public assistance. Caller
wanted to know why there
were two ambulances and
a rescue truck out on the
Arrowhead Trail. It turned
out nothing bad was
happening, the Hovland
team was doing some
training.
Friday, July 24
1:24 a.m. West Highway
61: vehicle stop. Officer
was following a pick-up
truck that was backfiring a
lot. When stopped, driver
said this does not happen
when driving under 30
mph. Driver promised to
drive under 30 mph when
driving through town.
10:40 a.m. Grand
Marais: West Fifth Street.
Apartment manager
suspected that one of
the tenants was smoking
marijuana in their unit
and requested a visit from
Eddy, the canine. Eddy
was not available at the
moment, but would be
available another day.
4:35 p.m. Hungry Jack
Road: Theft reported.
Caller stated that an
Adirondack deck chair was
taken off of a dock. Thief
was probably in a boat
when they took the chair
from the dock. Value of the
chair is $300.
5:34 p.m. Lambs Way:
Medical emergency. Four
year old boy tripped
and fell partially into a
campfire. Father caught
his son’s arm and quickly
pulled him out. Boy was
transported to North Shore
Health.
7:43 p.m. Gunflint Trail:
speeding complaints. Two
vehicles were driving 65-70
mph down the Gunflint
Trail. One vehicle was
headed for the emergency
room with a possible
hand injury. The other
vehicle was looking for
their runaway dog. Drivers
received verbal warnings.
Saturday, July 25
2:28 a.m. Grand Marais:
West Wisconsin Street.
Main door at local business
was open and a very loud
alarm was going off. Alarm
company called to report
the security breach. Owner
arrived to shut down the
alarm and secured the
door.
7:08 a.m. Grand Marais:
West Wisconsin Street,
Damage to property.
Someone using latex
paint, painted some
of the boulders lining
Harbor Park. Many rocks
were painted; images
were artistic in nature,
but still graffiti. City
staff wanted to have the
damage photographed and
documented before trying
to remove the paint.
8:34 a.m. Wahlstrom
Road: Animal disturbance.
Caller reported that
a family member was
chased and threatened by
a neighbor’s dogs when
the person went for a
run. Dog owner does not
want to keep the dogs
chained up and has been
trying different methods
of keeping the dogs away
from the road. Dog owner
was advised that this could
become a public nuisance
issue and the dog owner
would be cited.
5:20 p.m. Grand Marais:
West Fifth Street, Fraud/
Scam reported. Caller
had been dealing with
an Amazon scam all day.
The call began with a
promise to help end an
unwanted membership
in Amazon Prime. Caller
fell for it at first, but was
able to determine it wasn’t
real before they lost any
money. The scam involved
allowing remote access to
the caller’s computer and a
request for the caller to go
to Best Buy and purchase
gift cards.
Monday, July 27
11:27 a.m. West Highway
61: Customer trouble.
Customer was informed
that they are not to contact
this business anymore.
Customer was not happy
with the officer and said
she will take her business
elsewhere. Customer
was advised that if she
continued to contact this
business, she would be
charged with harassment.
12:16 p.m. Grand Marais:
Suspicious activity, possible
theft. Caller reported that
he was staying at a local
lodging place, but he got
uncomfortable and didn’t
stay the night. He told
the owners that he was
leaving and was surprised
to see a lodging charge
for $116.30 on his credit
card statement mid-July.
He called the owners and
got into an argument with
them. Caller explained that
he left his room because he
was uncomfortable with
the Black Lives Matter
sign on the property.
Caller was advised that
this circumstance does
not meet the criteria of
the theft statute and that it
was a civil matter that will
have to be settled in small
claims court.
