Wednesday, June 3
12:55 a.m. Grand Marais:
East First Street, public
information. Caller wanted
to make sure it was okay
to swim in Lake Superior
tomorrow. They like to swim
the East Bay and wanted to
make sure it was allowed.
Caller was a former member
of the US Coast Guard and
likes the cold water.
10:17 a.m. Reservation
River: Fraud/scam reported.
Caller received a call this
morning stating that his
son-in-law was in jail and
that he needed bail money.
12:11 p.m. Grand Marais:
North Broadway, Fraud/
scam reported. Caller stated
that he was being extorted
because of some picture that
was sent. It was shared on a
dating site and now they are
trying to get money from
him or they will post the
picture.

12:42 p.m. East Highway
61: Suspicious activity
reported. Observed large
airplane flying low over
Lake Superior. The plane
was a military plane C130.
Twin Cities C130 planes
have done training flights up
here in the past. LT Colonel
Brandon Moore of the 133rd
Air Lift Command said they
were not flying anywhere
in the area recently, but it
could have been the 934th
Air Wing.
Friday, June 5
2:05 p.m. Grand Marais:
West Highway 61,
informational. At 5.pm.
there was a gathering
planned in honor of George
Floyd. Caller expected
the gathering to be very
peaceful, but wanted Law
Enforcement to be informed
about the event.
2:24 p.m. County Road
7: Animal lost/found. An

85 pound collie named
Honey had gone missing
about six hours ago. Animal
Advocates were contacted.
Honey returned home soon
after the call was made.
5:29 p.m. Grand Marais:
South Broadway theft
reported. Male visitor was
parked on the point, his
tent had been laid out in the
grass to dry out, held down
with rocks. A dark beat-up
looking pickup truck drove
by him. He didn’t pay much
attention to the truck until
it stopped next to his car.
Then the truck driver said,
“A good place to camp is out
of town, go back to wherever
the hell you came from. We
don’t need tourists up here.”
The truck drove off and later
the visitor noticed his tent
was missing. The tent is a
single person, orange and
white colored Kelty Late
Start tent, valued at $340.

8:54 p.m. Grand Marais:
Gopher Cabins, unwanted
person. A family member
kept coming around the
cabin, peeking through
windows and loitering.
They wouldn’t leave their
adult son alone. Trespass
and Restraining Order
options were discussed.
Also, the property owner
was contacted because each
housing unit needs to have
an identifying number
assigned and properly
displayed for effective
emergency service response.
11:57 p.m. Devil Track
Road: Neighbor noise
complaint. Music from
neighbors that live ¼ to ½
mile away can be heard over
caller’s home TV volume.
One hour later (12:55 a.m.),
neighbors turned the music
off.

Saturday, June 6
4:45 a.m. An elderly person
called because they were
exhausted and depressed.
The county Dispatcher kept
them on the phone until
a Deputy was able to visit
them and help them figure
out what could be done to
make the person’s life more
comfortable. This person
had lived in a tiny cabin in
the woods for years, with
no electricity, no indoor
plumbing, and only wood
heat, not an easy lifestyle.
Person was transported
to North Shore Health for
evaluation and support
services.
6:40 p.m. Grand Marais:
East Highway 61, public
assistance. Caller reported
that the change machine
at the car wash was giving
back more money than
was put into the machine.
Owners were contacted and

informed about the change
machine problem.
Saturday, June 7
2:57 p.m. Welfare check
requested. Mom called to
request welfare check of
adult son. He had traveled
to a cabin yesterday and
had not called home yet.
Son traveled alone. Deputy
was able to make contact
with son, he was fine, cabin
happened to be in a bad
cell phone service area. Son
promised to call home later.
3:34 p.m. Grand Marais:
East Highway 61, counterfeit
money passed. People
attempted to pay for
$17.89 worth of goods at
a local business with a $50
bill marked “Prop Copy.”
Cashier noticed the problem
immediately, kept the
bill, and said it was fake.
Suspects named.
