Tuesday, March 3
8:18 a.m. Grand Marais: West Highway 61 theft reported.
Named suspect wrote bad checks adding up to about $900
to local business.
10:45 a.m. Murmur Creek: Public assistance requested.
Green Fiat got stuck in snow on an unplowed road. Two
adults in vehicle waited for tow service. When contacted to
see how they were doing, they reported that the tow truck
had gotten stuck behind them about a hundred yards and
was currently getting itself out. Both vehicles were dug out
and made it back to the main road.
Wednesday, March 4
7:21 a.m. Grand Marais: Animal disturbance on West
Second Street. Yellow Lab dog named Cedar was found
sitting at east-side doors of the courthouse, shivering and
shaking. Owner contacted. Dog allowed to wait in a warm
squad car until reunited with owner.
Thursday, March 5
8:29 a.m. Lutsen: Vehicle fire on Ski Hill Road. Ten or fifteen
minutes after arriving for work, owner noticed that their
parked vehicle was on fire. Car was on fire in a parking lot
and no one was inside the car. Fire Engine First Responders
used three large fire extinguishers but fire still burned.
About 25 minutes later, fire was out and being closely
monitored.
12:11 p.m. Grand Marais: First Avenue East neighbor
trouble. Caller reported that their neighbor was screaming
and singing at the top of his lungs the last few nights. This
has been going on for a while now. Caller was asked to
report behavior when it is happening so that a Deputy can
respond to the situation.
Friday, March 6
9:52 a.m. Sag Lake Trail: Rescue. Sixty year old male
collapsed at the Sag Lake corridor just off of Camper
Island. Emergency response was with a snowmobile along
the motorized corridor with a seven foot long “otter sled”
available to transport patient. Patient became alert and was
sitting up, he was transported back to Sag landing and taken
by ambulance to North Shore Health.
Saturday, March 7
12:24 a.m. West Highway 61: Attempt to locate. Husband
called and reported that his wife had gone missing. She was
traveling in a truck with a group of sled dogs. A point-bypoint extensive search occurred and the woman was located
sleeping in her truck at the intersection of the Gunflint Trail
and Hungry Jack Trail. She reported that the motel where
she was going to stay already had sled dogs making a lot
of noise barking, so she moved on to be considerate of the
other guests.
1:44 p.m. Gunflint Trail: Public assistance. Caller needed
help pulling out a jeep vehicle stuck in snow near Grand
Stable Lookout area, right along Grand Stable Lake. Cook
County Dispatch was not familiar with that area and
asked caller to call back on the 911 line so that location
coordinates would be available. Caller did call back and
apologized because she meant to call Grand Marais,
Michigan.
10:05 p.m. Wood Mountain Road and Taylor Lane: Sound
of gun shots reported. Callers unable to tell which direction
sound was coming from, could be fireworks, but seems to be
TherapidDifferencefire gunshot,Youlike Cana semi-Make
automatic. One caller heard it
last night and tonight which made it very hard to sleep.
11:35 p.m. Lutsen: Customer trouble on Ski Hill Road.
Intoxicated 23 year old man sneaked back into a bar after
being asked to leave. Man was not hostile when asked to
leave but did say that he would be driving home. When man
was told that police would be called, he said, “Call them.”
Deputy arrived, found a ride for the man and told him not
to return to the bar for the night or he would be arrested.
Sunday, March 8
9:24 a.m.FREEGrandTOWING
Marais: West Wisconsin Street Parking
problems.TAXA silverDEDUCTIBLE
Chevy Volt seemed to be recharging with
electric power from a city outlet. Caller was concerned that
they were stealing from the city. Owner was contacted and
told to make sure to get permission before using electricity
to recharge his vehicle.
9:51 a.m. Snowmobile accident on Trail. Woman had
traveled on sled from Two Harbors with another person:
two people, two snowmobiles. Accident occurred south of
Temperance River Road on the North Shore State Trail. It
appeared that the woman came around a corner, lost control
and went into trees. CPR administered but woman did not
survive the accident. Body transported to Midwest Medical
Examiner. Family and friends assisted as needed.
