Monday, February 10
12:55 p.m. Gunflint Trail:
Property lost. Caller wanted to
know if anyone had turned in a
Smith and Wesson 442 or 642
handgun during the past year.
The last time they remembered
seeing it was during a vacation
in Cook County. Caller did
not know if the gun was lost
or stolen and did not have the
serial number. Past records
were checked. Firearms
matching that description had
been accounted for or claimed.
5:22 p.m. Grand Marais: West
Third Street, motor vehicle
accident with property damage.
Vehicle accident near Higher Ed
campus. No injuries reported.
One vehicle had damage
to front bumper and hood;
other vehicle was damaged
on passenger side by doors.
Citation issued. Debris cleared
out of the intersection.
7:22 p.m. West Highway 61:
Gas Drive-Off reported. Dollar
amount of unpaid gas was
$41.25. Suspect was identified
with help from other witnesses.
Suspect contacted by phone and
interviewed. Suspect had put
a credit card in the pump and
thought they had paid for the
gas. Suspect contacted the gas
station and made arrangements
for payment.
Tuesday, February 11
6:57 a.m. Blazes Road: Traffic
complaint. Bus number seven
reported a stop-arm violation
while kids were boarding
the bus. Video evidence was
available.
1:31 p.m. Gunflint Trail: Public
assistance requested. Caller
reported that their father,
who has dementia, had been
befriended by a person that
seems to be taking advantage
of him financially. Caller’s
attorney will be serving papers
to the suspect for financial
exploitation of an elder.
6:55 p.m. Sawbill Trail:
Welfare check requested.
Person of interest could not
be located and had not been
seen in Cook County recently.
Family members, landlord,
employer, and neighbors
were very concerned about
this person’s welfare. 2/12/20
Update: Mother called to
report that person of interest
will be checking into a hospital
for treatment of their severe
depression.
7:19 p.m. East Highway 61:
Traffic complaint. Caller
reported that a large dark
Chevy pick-up was driving
between 50 and 55 mph and
crossing back and forth over
the highway center line. Officer
stopped a vehicle matching that
description. Driver declared
that they were very tired and
cannot see well at night. Driver
passed field tests. Citation was
issued for careless driving.
Wednesday, February 12
4:23 p.m. Gunflint Trail: Social
Security fraud/scam. Caller
received a robo-call about a
social security scam. Caller
didn’t lose anything or give out
any information, but wanted to
report the scam.
11:13 p.m. Margaret’s Road:
Suspicious activity. A known
man, not a stranger, appeared at
caller’s door and accused them
and another person of being a
witch. The man also said that
people were following him and
that someone was watching him
from across the street. Caller
did not see anyone across the
street. Man left the house and
drove away. Caller reported
this incident and did not want
to have any future contact with
the man.
Thursday, February 13
11:22 a.m. Gunflint Trail:
Public assistance. Saint Louis
County 911 called looking for
Two Harbors. Cook County
informed them that they
needed to contact Lake County
to find Two Harbors.
Friday, February 14
1:41 a.m. Grand Marais: First
Avenue West detail, Officer
initiated. Grandma Ray’s was
still open at 1:20 a.m. Officer
conducted a bar walk through,
then gave two people a ride to
the Best Western.
11:42 a.m. East Highway 61:
Suspicious activity. Caller
found a strange car parked
in their driveway. A note was
discovered on the car that said
it belonged to the neighbors
and would be moved the next
day. Caller wanted to have
the car towed if it was not
removed the next day and also
did not want the neighbors to
park there in the future. Caller
thinks the neighbors should get
their own driveway plowed if
they are going to come up here
during the winter.
12:28 p.m. Lutsen: Medical
assistance requested on Ski Hill
Road. Male, age 66, hit head,
cracked safety helmet, and may
be suffering from a concussion.
Person transported to North
Shore Health.
2:48 p.m. Gunflint Trail: Fraud/
Scam reported. Caller had
gotten a call from someone
named Eric who told them that
they had until 5 p.m. today to
pay or there would be a warrant
out for their arrest.
6:36 p.m. West Highway 61:
Missing persons reported. Two
skiers had not completed the
Massie loop near Solbakken
before darkness fell. Search and
Rescue was called and then
canceled because an officer had
observed two people with ski
poles walking along Highway
61; they were the missing
persons. They were transported
to the rest of their party. No
injuries, happy reunion.
Saturday, February 15
8:54 a.m. Pincushion Drive
detail: support service
for Pincushion races and
family day. Brought along a
snowmobile and a rescue truck.
Sunday, February 16
11:17 a.m. Tucker Lake Road:
Suspicious activity reported.
Last evening, Caller observed
that an unfamiliar car stopped
and then a person dragged
a large dark object about 20
feet into the woods. When
area was checked today, caller
found blood spots and foot
prints, but nothing big. Officer
investigated and found minor
blood droplets in the snow and
deer hair around the parking
area. T.here was no evidence of
a deer carcass anywhere, snow
was undisturbed with no signs
of predator animal activity
(ravens, eagles, wolves).
2:39 p.m. Lutsen: Medical
assistance requested on Ski Hill
Road. Male, age 17, breathing
and conscious. He hit his head
hard while going off a jump;
his helmet cracked in half.
Transported to North Shore
Health.
6:25 p.m. Whippoorwill Lane:
Animal disturbance, lost dog.
Dog missing is Sigi, an 85
pound all-white Great Pyrenees,
wearing a collar and reflective
blue vest. Dog is micro-chipped
and has ID tags, went missing
at 9:30 a.m. Two dogs had gone
missing, but one returned. No
update available.
