Wednesday, Jan. 1
00:21 a.m. Lutsen: Power outage
reported on Ski Hill Road.
Bottom of hill had power, but
there was no power on the
mountain.
10:47 a.m. Grand Marais:
Property lost/found. Person
found a brand new pair of
snowshoes on Highway 61 by
the Holiday gas station. Price
sticker says they cost $199.95.
12:10 p.m. Gunflint Trail:
Collision between snowmobile
and vehicle. Vehicle was
crossing snowmobile trail
when it was hit in the side by
the snowmobile. No injuries
reported. Stop signs are missing
and will be reposted at the trail
intersection.
2:06 p.m. Grand Marais: Vehicle
theft on West Wisconsin Street.
Two people, known to the
victim, took a Chevy Impala
and may be heading for Duluth.
10:46 p.m. Grand Marais:
Suspicious activity at the
community center on West
Fifth Street. Pickup truck
driving “donuts” in the
parking lot. Driver warned for
exhibition driving and failure to
obey a stop sign.

Thursday, Jan. 2
11:32 a.m. Lutsen: Medical
assistance on Ski Hill Road.
Thirty-five year old female skier
collided with another skier and
is showing signs of concussion.
No transport required.
Friday, Jan. 3
9:01 a.m. Grand Marais:
Fraud/Scam/ID, County Road
7 resident reported a credit
card scam with damages at
approximately $1600. Credit
card company will not hold
resident liable for charges.
6:10 p.m. Grand Marais:
Suspicious activity reported
near the Fall River waterfall.
Discovered a very nice tent
with sleeping bags, quilts and
blankets. Tent appears to have
been there a long time: tent
frozen to earth, tent poles
distorted by the winds, snow
caved into the tent, no tracks
near the tent. No body found,
no sign of struggle or foul play,
no end-of-life notes. Appears to
be an abandoned tent left from
the summer.
6:19 p.m. Gunflint Trail: Public
assist concerning missing
person report. Person reported

missing is alive and well and not
really missing.
Saturday, Jan. 4
11:31 a.m. Lutsen: Medical
assistance on Ski Hill Road.
Eighteen year old male,
conscious and breathing, hit a
tree and is bleeding from his left
ear. Transported to North Shore
Health.
3:51 p.m. Grand Marais: Person
observed walking their dog
on Cedar Grove Lane without
a leash. Person was reminded
that city ordinances require
dogs to be on a leash at all times
in town, unless they are using
the dog park near the recycle
center. Person had history of
violating the ordinance and was
issued a citation.
9:19 p.m. Gunflint Trail:
Medical assistance on Hungry
Jack Road. Male, early 50’s,
fell outside, may have been
shoveling. Person initially not
conscious, but was breathing,
groaning, bleeding from
mouth and nose. Seemed
confused when he regained
consciousness. Transported to
North Shore Health.
Sunday, Jan. 5

00:18 a.m. Lutsen: Fight on Ski
Hill Road. Two groups of men
fighting outside. Fight broke up,
no injuries, the six men (ages
30s and 40s), went on their way.
12:56 p.m. Bloomquist
Mountain Road: Private
property trespass reported.
People, interested in purchasing
nearby property, were walking
up the driveway on foot. They
assumed there was an easement
for access. Caller had dogs
guarding the property. Officer
suggested that the realtor
contact the property owner
to discuss access issues and to
beware of the dogs.
1:19 p.m. Lutsen: Snowmobile
got stuck at Mark Lake Road
and Cascade River Road.
Rider (called on cell phone)
had been walking away from
broken down sled, was dressed
warmly, but may have gone the
wrong way. Rider was advised
to stay where she was until
help arrives. Responders found
caller, retrieved snowmobile
and escorted rider to Steve’s
Sports in Grand Marais.
Monday, Jan. 6
5:10 p.m. West Highway 61:
Vehicle collision with deer. Deer
died; vehicle sustained damage

to hood, but could still be
driven. Deer meat was salvaged
for non-human consumption
due to injuries.
Tuesday, Jan. 7
10:42 a.m. Medical assistance
requested at a trail head. Fiftyfive year old male x-country
skier fell and was unresponsive.
Person covered in blankets
and CPR was administered.
Transport to North Shore
Health. Family was also
escorted to the hospital.
1:13 p.m. Grand Marais:
Animal disturbance on Fourth
Avenue East. Huskey dog Jack
is running around at the DMV.
Dog was tied up, but managed
to slip his collar off. Officer was
unable to catch dog because
Jack doesn’t like strangers.
Owner returned to the property
and Jack was secured.
3:24 p.m. Grand Marais: Hazard
on Highway 61. Crates in road
near the bank. Cardboard
boxes had fallen out of a pick
up truck. Workers cleaned up
the boxes and were advised to
secure load with straps.
Wednesday, Jan. 8
8:19 a.m. Grand Portage:
Property lost/found on Store

Road. Three nice suitcases
filled with clothes were found.
They were brought to the RTC
building and may be donations
for the family that recently lost
their home to fire.
5:35 p.m. Grand Marais:
Animal disturbance on Fourth
Avenue East. Huskey dog
Jack escaped his chain and
is running loose again. Jack
peeked into someone’s front
window. Owner was contacted
and came to get the dog.
Thursday, Jan. 9
5:54 p.m. Tofte: Snowmobiler
hit a moose. Rider’s helmet
ripped off on impact. Got the
wind knocked out of him and
suffered other injuries. Rider is
49 year old male. Snowmobile
was traveling 55 to 60 miles per
hour going over a hill when
crash occurred. Rider slammed
directly into the side of the
moose and then continued to
pass under the moose. Moose
ran off into the woods.
10:31 p.m. Mile Creek Road:
Great horned owl hit by vehicle
and still alive, may just be
stunned. Caller was advised
that officer could put the animal
down if necessary. Bird was
kept warm and offered water.
