Sunday, Dec. 8
12:45 a.m., Grand Marais:
Caller from Eighth Avenue
West reported a problem with
an intoxicated person who was
walking and stumbling up the
hill. A deputy found him at
Second Street. The man said he
was on his way home from the
bar, and would be okay to walk
the rest of the way, and did not
want a ride.
1:31 a.m., Grand Marais: A
dead deer was removed from
West Highway 61.
2:14 p.m., Lutsen: Vehicle in
the ditch off Mistletoe Road.
The driver said he took a wrong
turn off the Evergreen Road
from the Caribou Trail and
ended up on Mistletoe Road,
and then turned onto the
Lutsen Access Trail. The snow
was too deep for them to get
out, and a tow truck was called.
5:10 p.m., Grand Marais:
Business checks.

Tuesday, Dec. 10
1:20 a.m., Grand Marais:
Business check on South Eighth
Avenue. All was okay.
2:13 a.m., Grand Marais:
Medical call from a monitor on
West Highway 61. The woman
was okay; no emergency.
9:19 and 9:54 a.m., Grand
Portage: Security alarms
on Mile Creek Road were
cancelled.
9:59 a.m., Grand Marais: A
small gray and black dog was
struck and killed by a vehicle
on the Gunflint Trail, about
a half-mile up from the Law
Enforcement Center.

11:25 a.m., Grand Marais: A
woman was locked out of her
house, and could not contact
a locksmith. She was given
another number, and was able
to wait inside her car to keep
warm.
12:20 p.m., Grand Marais:
Personal injury accident on
West Highway 61.
12:33 p.m., Grand Marais:
Traffic complaint on West
Highway 61.
12:51 p.m., Grand Marais:
Parking complaint on East
Highway 61.
2:16 p.m., Grand Marais:
Deputy assisted another agency
on West Second Street.
8:13 p.m., Grand Portage:
Motor vehicle accident reported
on Ryden Road. There was only
minor damage to the vehicles,
and no injuries reported.
11:26 p.m., Grand Marais:
Loud music complaint on
West Second Street regarding
Christmas music that was
hooked up to the outdoor
displays. The homeowner
said he didn’t know how it got
turned back on, and turned it
off immediately.

Wednesday, Dec. 11
5:30 a.m., Grand Marais:
Canine training.
9:53 a.m., Grand Marais:
Deputy called to a disturbance
on West Second Street. An
agitated man was removed
from the courthouse. He left
peacefully.
1:37 p.m., Grand Marais: A
large black dog, “Scooby,” was
picked up about two miles
east of town, in the middle of

the highway. The owner was
contacted.
1:56 p.m., Grand Marais:
Animal disturbance (loose dog)
on South Broadway. The owner
was contacted, and picked the
dog up at the pound.

Thursday, Dec. 12
10:40 a.m., Grand Marais:
Animal disturbance on East
Highway 61.
10:42 a.m., Grand Marais:
Traffic complaint on Highway
61.
10:49 a.m., Grand Marais: A
traffic hazard on the highway
was cleared.
12:25 p.m., Grand Marais:
Motor vehicle accident reported
on Highway 61.
3:20 p.m., Grand Marais:
Animal disturbance on First
Avenue West. The caller saw
a small white dog wearing a
sweater, with its feet freezing,
running around.
5:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic
hazard reported on County
Road 7. The caller saw a large
animal lying in the middle of
the road, and it appeared to be
dead. It was a deer, and it was
dead.
5:24 p.m., Grand Marais: A
reported gas leak on Fifth
Avenue West was unfounded.
5:42 p.m., Grand Marais: A
deer was hit and killed by a car
on County Road 7.
5:54 p.m., Grand Marais: A
motorist with a stalled vehicle
that was “frozen up” in the
middle of the highway was
assisted by State Patrol.

8:08 p.m., Grand Marais:
Caller wanted to know if he
could stay parked at the Coast
Guard parking lot and camp
overnight. He was told of the
ordinances prohibiting camping
there, and advised to head east
of town and stay at the Kadunce
wayside area.

Friday, Dec. 13
8:21 a.m., Grand Portage:
Trespass complaint. A shed
door was pried open, and
entry was made, but it appears
nothing was taken.
2:14 p.m., Grand Marais:
Suspicious activity reported
at the Community Center. A
car was seen driving on the ice
rink and whipping doughnuts,
but no damage was done upon
examination by a deputy.
The perpetrator was located
and said he did it because he
thought it would be fun. The
driver offered to shovel the rink
rather than receive a citation,
and that was okay since there
was no damage done.
4:36 p.m., Grand Marais: Motor
vehicle accident (car-deer
crash) reported on Croftville
Road.
8:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Motor
vehicle accident reported on
West Highway 61. Referred to
State Patrol.

Saturday, Dec. 14
11:06 a.m., Lutsen: Ambulance
called to the ski hill for a
16-year-old male with a hip
injury.
12:15 p.m., Grand Portage:
Arrest made as the result of a
disturbance on Upper Road.

2:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Public
assist on West Highway 61.
Caller wanted to know if it was
okay to check into his room
with his gun. He was advised
that it’s the property owner’s
decision.
3:06 p.m., Grand Portage:
Disturbance (break-in)
reported on Bay Estates Drive.
4:29 p.m., Grand Marais: Twovehicle accident reported on
West Highway 61. A pick-up
sideswiped a semi. There were
no injuries reported.
4:58 p.m., Grand Marais:
Animal welfare check requested
on East First Street. A dog that
appeared to be freezing was
tied up outside the co-op for a
long time, and the owner finally
went outside and left with the
dog.
5:49 p.m., Hovland: Medical
call on North Road. An alarm
was pulled, but the owner was
fine and said he didn’t push the
button.
8:19 p.m., Tofte: Deputy
assisted Olmsted County by
checking an address for stolen
snowmobiles. Nothing was
found.
9:35 p.m., Grand Marais: Deer
struck by a vehicle on East
Highway 61.
11:04 p.m., Grand Marais:
Public assist (probation) on
Gunflint Trail.

Sunday, Dec. 15
1:38 a.m., Grand Marais: A
dead deer was removed from
East Highway 61.
8:14 a.m., Grand Marais:
Report of a hazard on Gunflint
Trail. There was a snowmobile

ramp in the northbound lane
near Northern Light Lake.
The owners were eventually
contacted, and the ramp was
moved.
9:38 a.m., Grand Marais:
Alarm on Wisconsin Street was
cancelled.
12:31 p.m., Grand Marais:
Report of smoke in the area of
Mort Meadows.
7:48 p.m., Grand Portage:
Domestic disturbance reported
on Margarets Road.

Monday, Dec. 16
8:27 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller
said she lost her purse at the
school the previous evening.
9:34 a.m., Grand Marais:
Suspicious activity (threatening
Facebook messages) reported.
10:38 a.m., Grand Marais:
Hazard reported at Leveaux
Ridge.
11:29 a.m., Grand Marais:
Property lost/found on
Gunflint Trail.
12:28 p.m., Grand Marais:
Threats reported.
12:35 p.m., Grand Marais:
Hazard reported at Pine
Mountain Court.
1:45 p.m., Grand Marais:
Animal welfare check requested
after two dogs wearing
bandannas were found running
loose on the Sugarbush Trail.
The owner was located, and
picked up the dogs.
8:23 p.m., Hovland: Personal
injury accident (vehicle in the
ditch) reported on the highway
near Reservation River Road.
The driver was okay, and a tow
truck was called.
