Tuesday, Oct. 22
9:50 a.m., Tofte: Report of a traffic hazard on Sawbill Trail.
11:53 a.m., Grand Marais: Resident lost her credit cards and a small coin bag, somewhere downtown.
12:05 p.m., Grand Marais: Public assist on Bally Creek Road. A motorist traveling on Bally Creek
Road lost his way and was worried he was heading into the BWCA. He was directed to keep driving
south, and eventually found his way to Grand Marais.
2:46 p.m., Grand Marais: Canine training.
3:19 p.m., Lutsen: Report of smoke in the area of Caribou Trail was cancelled.
3:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic hazard reported on Pike Lake Road.
6:18 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller from County Road 7 said her collie has gone missing. The dog was
found and returned at 10:27 a.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 23
6:20 a.m., Grand Marais: Hazard reported on Trout Lake Road.
7:00 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted with the school bus detail/search.
8:38 a.m., Grand Marais: Animal disturbance on East Highway 61, just west of Judge Magney Park.
Caller said a disoriented deer was standing in the middle of the road, drooling and acting weird;
there is definitely something wrong with it. The deer was dispatched on private property.
9:34 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller on County Road 7 had a loose collie in his yard, with no ID but
wearing a collar with a 16-foot-long metal chain attached to it. The caller said he would hold onto the
dog until somebody reports it missing.
12:02 p.m., Grand Marais: Public assist on Croftville Road.
3:27 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that someone stole his phone and was now trying to get
into his accounts.
Thursday, Oct. 24
12:00 p.m., Grand Marais: A dog was found wandering West Highway 61. The owner was contacted.
12:46 p.m., Grand Marais: Security alarm on South Broadway.
1:52 p.m., Grand Marais: Public assist on East Highway 61.
5:05 p.m., Lutsen: Structure fire on West Highway 61. Caller said there was lots of bluish-gray smoke
coming out of a home near Fish out of Water. It was determined that the house was actually located
in Lake County, and the information was passed on.
5:49 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted another agency on Gunflint Trail.
6:38 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said she lost her key fob at Java Moose.
7:15 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of suspicious activity on County Road 14. Caller said he drove by
the substation and one of the units was open, a computer was out, and it looked like two men were
doing work; one of the men waved at the caller as he drove by. The caller said a car parked nearby
looked sporty for someone working on electrical boxes, and it just seems suspicious. A deputy
checked the area, but the car and men were gone.
8:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of suspicious activity on East Highway 61, where an unoccupied
vehicle with camping gear and water jugs was parked. A deputy located the owner, who was out
taking pictures of the sky and was okay.
10:54 p.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck by a vehicle on West Highway 61.
Friday, Oct. 25
8:40 a.m., Grand Marais: Suspected shoplifter at the co-op was spoken to.
10:00 a.m., Grand Marais: Funeral escort.
10:11 a.m., Grand Marais: Arrest made following a disturbance on North Broadway.
12:52 p.m., Grand Marais: An inmate damaged property at the jail immediately after being booked
in. Pages were ripped from an $18 book, right in front of the deputy.
3:18 p.m., Grand Marais: Property lost/found on First Avenue West.
5:30 p.m., Grand Portage: Automatic fire alarm on Upper Road.
6:21 p.m., Grand Marais: Animal disturbance on East Highway 61.
9:50 p.m., Grand Marais: Animal disturbance on Sixth Avenue West. Caller is concerned about
some dogs that are kept behind a fence on Sixth Avenue West, but not chained. The dogs bark at
people who walk on the easement, and the owner sometimes steps out and yells and swears, but does
nothing about the dogs.
Saturday, Oct. 26
12:36 a.m., Grand Portage: Medical call (seizures) on Casino Drive.
11:56 a.m., Hovland: A deputy stopped four juveniles, one with a respirator, who were walking
toward the concrete mansion on Trailsyde with a duffel bag. In the bag was spray paint, and the
juveniles admitted that they were going to tag the property. The parent/guardian of each was
contacted, and the paint was returned to the adult.
7:48 a.m., Grand Marais: Motor vehicle accident with a vehicle on West Highway 61.
10:55 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted another agency.
11:36 a.m., Grand Marais: Medical call on East Third Street.
11:57 a.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle lock-in on West First Street.
3:57 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of suspicious activity on Pike Lake Road, where the caller said four
youths were digging with an excavator and sifting dirt; there was also a dump truck parked there.
The youths said they were digging on behalf of their father, Seth Jeffs, and had a permit to dig there.
The deputy checked with the Forest Service, and a permit had been issued; there were no violations.
4:06 p.m., Grand Marais: A 6-year-old child who was separated from her parents on Wisconsin Street
was found in Moose Tracks.
4:27 p.m., Grand Marais: Animal disturbance on 10th Avenue West, where a husky was found.
5:16 p.m., Lutsen: Medical call on Cascade Beach Road.
Sunday, Oct. 27
2:03 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a loud party on First Avenue East near the hotel.
7:58 a.m., Grand Marais: Security alarm on Wisconsin Street was cleared.
4:45 p.m., Grand Marais: Motor vehicle accident with a deer on East Highway 61 at mile marker 127.
10:16 p.m., Lutsen: A vehicle struck and killed a deer on Caribou Trail.
Monday, Oct. 28
7:02 a.m., Grand Marais: Motor vehicle accident with an animal on West Highway 61.
Tuesday, Oct. 29
6:00 a.m., Grand Marais: ATV patrol.
7:20 a.m., Grand Portage: Security alarm on Upper Road was cancelled.
12:06 p.m., Grand Portage: Medical call (trouble breathing) on Eliza Road.
12:35 p.m., Grand Marais: Loose dog running on First Avenue East.
12:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic complaint on East Highway 61.
3:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Fraud attempt reported.
5:11 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic complaint on West Fifth Street.
5:23 p.m., Hovland: Harassment complaint.
7:25 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said there are two 20-something “frantic” females on the hill side of
the highway near Lindskog Road, flagging down cars trying to get a ride back to Grand Marais. A
deputy checked the area and the women were gone.
Wednesday, Oct. 30
9:13 a.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck by a car on West Highway 61.
2:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Canine training.
2:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a possible meth lab on South Gunflint Lake Road.
7:12 p.m., Grand Marais: Loose dog reported on Cedar Grove Lane.
7:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of suspicious activity on West Highway 61 at the old Pie Place
building. A vehicle was blocking the driveway, preventing people from leaving Bible Study. It is
believed the car has transmission issues – it can go in reverse, but not forward.
8:57 p.m., Grand Marais: Animal disturbance on East Highway 61.
9:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of an injured deer flopping around on the highway between mile
markers 120 and 121.
11:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted a stranded and confused driver just east of County Road
14.
11:30 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said someone just shot and killed his dog on the Arrowhead Trail.
The incident is under investigation.
