Thursday, July 18
1:03 a.m., Grand Marais: Medical call from an employee housing
unit. A foreign worker, 22, drank too much and could not be
woken up. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
7:16 a.m., Grand Marais: Traffic complaint on West Highway 61.
The driver was arrested at Cascade for driving a stolen vehicle
and having a cancelled license.
8:50 a.m., Grand Marais: Police transport.
10:20 a.m., Grand Marais: Medical call on West Highway 61.
10:30 a.m., Grand Marais: Traffic complaint on Gunflint Trail
regarding a semi that was passing in a no-passing zone. A
deputy could not locate the truck.
11:05 a.m., Hovland: Public assist on Caspers Hill Road. The
caller wanted some information about how to get a trespass
order.
1:45 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted the Forest Service with
an alarm at Trestle Pine.
2:28 p.m., Grand Marais: Harassment complaint.
2:31 p.m., Grand Marais: Fraud reported. The caller said his
Social Security number was stolen, and now he is getting
unwanted bills and calls from a collection agency.
2:49 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller from Devil Track Road said he
believes someone was in his house, but it appears nothing was
taken.
4:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Property lost/found on South
Broadway.
5:09 p.m., Grand Marais: Public assist on County Road 7.
6:26 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller from East Highway 61 was
locked out of his car.
6:30 p.m., Grand Marais: A camper went off the side of West
Highway 61.
8:05 p.m., Grand Marais: Medical transport.
8:34 p.m., Grand Marais: Livestock complaint/dispute on
County Road 56 regarding cattle grazing location.
10:28 p.m., Grand Marais: Missing person reported from
Cascade Lodge after an elderly man went for a walk and hasn’t
returned in over two hours. He was found walking up the
driveway at 10:58 p.m., and the search was called off.
10:59 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of suspicious activity on Pike
Lake Road. A young person in a long coat was hitchhiking, but
was not in distress.
Friday, July 19
7:45 a.m., Grand Marais: A driver’s license was found on West
Highway 61. The owner was contacted.
8:50 a.m., Grand Marais: Suspicious activity (trespassing)
observed on Flute Reed Road.
1:46 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller from East Highway 61 reported
smoke in the area. It was coming from a fire on Old Shore Road.
2:53 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted with the impounding
of a boat on Ball Club Road.
3:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Order violation.
3:51 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called to a disturbance on West
Fourth Street. A semi parked on the street was running sine 2
a.m. and was very loud and annoying. The driver was located
and told to turn the motor off.
4:29 p.m., Lutsen: Suspicious activity reported on Ski Hill Road.
Four young men were seen prowling cars near Papa Charlie’s
and told to leave.
4:45 p.m., Grand Marais: A debit card was found on the sidewalk
and turned in at the visitor center on West Highway 61.
4:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller from Rollins Creek Road was
concerned about some over-full dumpsters and said glass, nails
and other debris may end up on the road. The owner of the
dumpsters was contacted.
5:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Personal injury accident reported on
Clearwater Road. A vehicle was found upside-down, and both
occupants were out and at Golden Eagle Lodge. Minor injuries
were reported, and the vehicle was still running
5:56 p.m., Grand Marais: Public assist on East Third Street. A
person who was just released from jail needed funds or a way to
get to Duluth.
7:05 p.m., Grand Marais: A small wallet was reported lost,
possibly near Java Moose.
9:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic complaint (speeding
motorcycles) on Gunflint Trail. A deputy stopped the
motorcycles and one driver was taken into custody.
10:13 p.m., Grand Marais: Fireworks complaint on County Road
6. A deputy could not locate the source of the noise.
Saturday, July 20
7:01 a.m., Grand Marais: Automatic fire alarm on West Fifth
Street was false.
11:13 a.m., Grand Marais: Medical call (sharp pain on side and
difficulty breathing) on Romans Road.
12:07 p.m., Grand Portage: Report of suspicious activity on
Upper Road. People near the Witch Tree were asked to leave,
and complied.
12:27 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted the Forest Service at
Tuelly Lake.
12:39 p.m., Lutsen: Medical call on Ski Hill Road.
1:09 p.m., Grand Marais: Parking complaint on First Avenue
West.
1:21 p.m., Grand Marais: Water emergency on Devil Track Lake
after a boat sunk and three people went into the water. There
were no injuries, and the occupants said there was too much
weight in the boat; the owner was given a verbal reprimand for
exceeding the boat’s weight capacity (450 pounds).
2:30 p.m., Hovland: Report of smoke in the area of Tom Lake.
2:54 p.m., Grand Marais: Parking complaint on West Highway
61 regarding a car in front of the visitor center for several days.
A deputy determined it was not parked illegally, and there was
no sign prohibiting parking.
3:31 p.m., Grand Marais: Medical call (seizure) on West
Highway 61.
4:00 p.m., Grand Marais: A credit card was found on West
Highway 61.
4:14 p.m., Grand Marais: Parking problem on West Highway 61.
5:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Animal welfare check requested on
a large dog left in a van parked near Dairy Queen for over 15
minutes. A deputy checked and the dog was content; the van was
in shade and the window was down.
5:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Public assist on Fifth Avenue West.
7:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic complaint on West Highway 61.
7:03 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of smoke on the Gunflint Trail.
7:50 p.m., Grand Marais: Parking complaint on Third Avenue
West.
8:02 p.m., Tofte: Noise complaint at the campground on Sawbill
Trail.
8:14 p.m., Grand Marais: Property lost/found on Croftville
Road.
11:03 p.m., Grand Marais: Business checks.
