complete, the Cook County News-Herald publishes a complete accounting of
names and penalties in its Matters of Record.

Monday, April 19

9:10 a.m., Grand Marais: Property owner reported that when he got to his cabin on Pike Lake he found that 3-4 cords of split firewood, a 2003 Sears snow blower, two snow shovels and a DirecTV dish had been stolen sometime since October.

10:50 p.m., Colvill: Caller reported that she heard knocking at her back door, and when she opened the door there was a drunk 20-year-old man in shorts, T-shirt and wet sneakers who was shivering to death.

Tuesday, April 20

6:05 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of an SUV in the ditch off the highway near Manitoo Trail.

10:14 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy picked up a backpack that was left at the ballfield. The owner was to retrieve it from the Law Enforcement Center.

11:01 p.m., Grand Portage: Casino security requested a deputy to remove a man who was sleeping in his vehicle in the parking lot. The Canadian man said the engine was seized up, and got a room at the Lodge.

Wednesday, April 21

6:21 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that someone tried to gain entrance into Chez Jud through a window, causing $50 worth of damage to the screen.

Thursday, April 22

8:05 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a Canadian vehicle speeding at 100 mph and passing unsafely, eastbound from Colvill. State Patrol notified.

9:20 a.m., Grand Marais: Extra patrols requested in the Tait Lake area due to recent cabin break-in attempts.

10:40 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy investigated a report that a man had been camped for the last couple weeks near the Superior Hiking Trailhead on County Road 6. The caller said the man had been making fires and throwing garbage around. It was learned the man had moved to town and was no longer camping out.

10:54 a.m., Grand Portage: Woman reported an altercation with her ex-boyfriend.

10:54 a.m., Grand Portage: A Grand Portage woman, 18, was arrested for fifth-degree assault after another resident reported being jumped by a couple girls the night before.

3:37 p.m., Grand Marais: School bus stop arm violation reported on Eighth Avenue West. A deputy was unable to locate the vehicle.

8:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of smoke near Old Ski Hill Road. The only smoke in the area was found to be from outdoor wood boilers.

Friday, April 23

10:14 a.m., Grand Marais: Grass fire reported on South Gunflint Lake Road, possibly started by sparking power lines.

2:29 p.m., Grand Marais: Theft of a $120 MP3 player from Radio Shack reported.

4:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that about three weeks ago his ex-wife showed up unannounced and took some things.

4:18 p.m., Lutsen: Grass fire at the ski hill behind Rosie’s Café. Lutsen, Tofte, Schroeder and Forest Service firefighters responded. The fire was about an acre and also involved a structure.

Saturday, April 24

7:44 a.m., Grand Portage: Report that someone threw a rock and broke a windshield of a parked vehicle sometime overnight.

10:30 a.m., Grand Portage: A Grand Portage man was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance after two men reported he had threatened them with a gun.

11:11 a.m., Grand Portage: Grand Portage man, 38, arrested for DWI.

2:26 p.m., Grand Marais: Cabin owners complained that their neighbor had done a bunch of clearing and pushed all the debris into their driveway, and it took them two hours to cut through it and get to their cabin. When they called the neighbor to see why he did it, he was very rude and said “F— You!” and hung up on her.

3:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a man in town asking people if there is a homeless shelter in the area.

5:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy resolved an altercation at the skate park, where a 40-year-old man was yelling at some kids about a broken helmet.

8:38 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a fire at a residence across from the hospital.

Sunday, April 25

12:10 a.m., Hovland: Report of a suspicious guy walking on the highway just west of Magney State Park. Investigation revealed that the man’s car had broken down and he was walking into town.

12:27 a.m., Hovland: Report of a suspicious vehicle parked at a neighbor’s residence.

2:37 p.m., Grand Portage: Complaint about a vagrant loitering at the casino, harassing guests and asking for money.

3:42 p.m., Grand Marais: A set of blasting caps was brought in to the Law Enforcement Center. The person who found them said they washed up on shore near Stonegate Road. They were secured and will be disposed of properly.

7:33 p.m., Grand Portage: A resident returned home from a weekend away and found a note on her husband’s truck saying that low rider trucks are outlawed on the reservation and God doesn’t like them. The woman said she felt threatened by the note and asked a deputy to stop by.
