Sunday, July 14
12:42 a.m., Tofte: Animal disturbance reported on Sawbill Trail.
A small brown-and-white dog escaped the camper, and they were
looking for it. The dog was found a short time later.
1:56 a.m., Grand Marais: Medical call (chest pains) on West Fifth
Street.
3:33 a.m., Grand Marais: Property lost/found on West Highway 61.
8:47 a.m., Grand Marais: An injured sea gull (broken wing) on
Pincushion Drive was dispatched.
8:48 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller complained about a strong
ammonia odor in the restroom at Schroeder, and said he believes
it isn’t vented properly. He got a screaming headache being in there
but didn’t need an ambulance. A deputy checked the area and said
it smelled normal.
10:17 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller locked his keys and kids in the
car on County Road 34, but they are in the shade and not too hot,
but they are upset. The door was opened with a tool a short time
later.
10:39 a.m., Tofte: A backpack was found at an entry point and
dropped off at Tofte Ranger District.
10:44 a.m., Grand Marais: A loose border collie mix was running
around Creechville Road.
11:31 a.m., Grand Marais: Motor vehicle accident with an animal.
2:11 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic complaint on Third Avenue West.
2:56 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic complaint on West Highway 61
was referred to State Patrol. The caller said a U-Haul with bikes on
the back passed a lot of vehicles at 80 mph.
4:55 p.m., Grand Marais: A Thunder Bay corrections officer who
was visiting Grand Marais said he lost his wallet somewhere in
town. He will head back down to look for it.
8:38 p.m., Grand Marais: Arrest made for domestic assault.
9:37 p.m., Grand Marais: A debit card was found at the skate park
on West Fifth Street.
Monday, July 15
12:32 a.m., Grand Marais: Medical transport to St. Luke’s.
12:51 a.m., Grand Marais: Audible alarm on West Highway 61.
9:26 a.m., Grand Portage: Residence check.
11:19 a.m., Grand Marais: Fraud (misuse of a debit card) reported.
1:14 p.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck and killed on West Highway
61. The caller dragged it off the road.
3:36 p.m., Grand Marais: Medical call (back and leg pain) on West
Second Street.
4:59 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic hazard reported on Devil Track
Road.
5:02 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic hazard reported on Northwoods
Loop.
5:04 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic hazard reported on School House
Road.
5:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Water emergency (tipped-over canoe
near the sea plane landing) on South Shore Drive. What was
thought to be a person in the water was an inflatable white swan.
There were no injuries reported.
5:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Medical transport on Fifth Avenue West.
6:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Medical call on Wisconsin Street. An
18-year-old female passed out, but did not fall and was breathing
normally.
6:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted State Patrol in response
to a call about a man sleeping in a car parked at a wayside. He was
just sightseeing, and stopped to take a nap.
7:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle in the ditch off West Highway 61.
The driver was trying to turn around and went into the ditch, and
got stuck. A truck driver stopped and pulled the vehicle out; a tow
truck was cancelled.
9:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Guest at a motel complained that he
could smell a strong odor of marijuana. A deputy investigated and
determined the smell was coming from the manager’s office, where
the manager’s daughter was found. She said she could not smell it.
Tuesday, July 16
6:06 a.m., Grand Marais: Security alarm on West Highway 61 was
cancelled.
9:21 a.m., Grand Marais: Police transport.
9:29 a.m., Grand Portage: Residence check requested.
10:46 a.m., Grand Marais: Driver cited for failure to yield to a
pedestrian.
11:26 a.m., Grand Marais: Canine training.
12:25 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic complaint on West Highway 61.
Business owner was concerned about all of the speeding traffic and
requested extra monitoring.
2:26 p.m., Grand Marais: A cell phone with credit cards and ID
was found at a restaurant and returned to its owner.
3:30 p.m., Lutsen: Medical call (seizure) on Ski Hill Road.
3:51 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic complaint on West Highway 61.
7:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said someone has been using her
credit card online. She has lost $150 so far.
8:45 p.m., Hovland: Arrest made for a domestic disturbance.
10:44 p.m., Grand Portage: Medical call on Casino Drive. A
20-year-old female was brought in from Isle Royale with severe
abdominal pain
11:44 p.m., Grand Portage: Suspicious activity reported on
Margarets Road.
Wednesday, July 17
12:53 a.m., Grand Marais: Personal injury accident reported on
County Road 7. A person rolled his car and was trying to fight. He
was taken to the hospital and the vehicle was towed. The driver
was charged with 2nd degree DUI after refusing to submit to a
breath test.
4:17 a.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle theft report was cancelled.
8:45 a.m., Grand Portage: Some odd items that looked like drug
paraphernalia were found under a rock near the parking area at
the national monument on Mile Creek Road. Upon investigation,
the bag contained discarded sparklers and drug paraphernalia left
by a party entering Canada, as stated on an enclosed note.
11:21 a.m., Grand Marais: Funeral escort.
12:43 p.m., Grand Marais: A friendly red setter-type dog was
found wandering just outside the city limits, and taken to the
pound. The owner picked the dog up at 1:12 p.m.
1:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Damage to property reported on Caps
Trail. Someone used a pointed rock to poke a hole in the garage
door, but did not gain access.
2:05 p.m., Grand Marais: Residence checks.
2:47 p.m., Grand Marais: Four boxes of ammo were dropped off
for disposal at the Law Enforcement Center.
2:59 p.m., Grand Portage: Report of graffiti on Mile Creek Road.
Red paint was sprayed all over trees and flowers.
4:02 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted the Forest Service on
Perent Lake Road.
6:02 p.m., Grand Marais: A black leather bi-fold cell case with
cards inside was found on First Avenue West.
6:09 p.m., Grand Marais: Threats reported.
7:11 p.m., Grand Marais: Property lost/found on Wisconsin Street.
10:51 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic complaint on Highway 61.
