When court proceedings are complete, the Cook County News-
Herald publishes a complete accounting of names and penalties in
its Matters of Record.

Monday, March 1
8:10 a.m., Grand Marais: Driver, 18, cited for speeding.

8:37 a.m., Grand Marais: Ambulance requested for a woman, 91, who was found on the floor.

9:49 a.m., Grand Marais: Thunder Bay man, 22, cited for speeding.

7:13 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported that a woman whose license is revoked was driving around in a loud maroon mini-van with no plates on it.

Tuesday, March 2
7:23 a.m., Grand Portage: Power outage reported.

8:01 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a lost camera at Paradise Beach.

Wednesday, March 3

6:47 a.m., Schroeder: Deer struck and still alive on the road, about a half-mile inside the county line.

12:58 p.m., Grand Portage: Complaint about a driver in a work vehicle driving too fast on Townsite Road.

5:37 p.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck and injured (broken legs) at mile marker 96.

6:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck and killed by a countyowned vehicle 2 miles east of Brule River. Minor damage to the vehicle.

7:15 p.m., Hovland: Caller reported seeing what was either a very large meteor or an airplane in flames falling over Lake Superior. St. Louis County dispatch said they received a report of it as well, and believed it was a very large meteor. Duluth Air Traffic Control was contacted and said the space station had just gone overhead and it created a very bright streak in the sky. Either way, no planes were missing from radar, so it wouldn’t have been a plane.

Thursday, March 4

2:15 p.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called to the ski hill for a man, 30, with a hip injury.

3:31 p.m., Grand Marais: Loose horses on County Road 44 were captured and tied up for the owner.

6:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a smoky smell (garbage?) was investigated.

6:51 p.m., Grand Portage: The fire department and ambulance were dispatched to put out a chimney fire.

11:57 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputies and a tribal game warden investigated a report of a snowmobile crash on Mount Josephine.

Friday, March 5

6:36 a.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck near mile marker 95, damaging the vehicle. Unknown if the deer was killed.

7:38 a.m., Grand Marais: Driver reported that she struck either a wolf or coyote about a half-mile east of Kadunce Creek.

7:38 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to investigate a pick-up truck that was parked behind Super 8 all night. No one was around.

2:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Thunder Bay man, 65, cited for improper passing.

2:58 p.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called to the ski hill for a 40-yearold woman with a concussion and spinal injuries.

3:27 p.m., Grand Marais: Madison, Wis., man, 34, cited for speeding.

8:13 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that a pick-up passed the caller’s residence on Pike Lake and fired a shot, although it may have been a backfire (the caller wasn’t totally sure). A deputy checked the area but found nothing wrong.

8:14 p.m., Grand Marais: Holiday reported a $44.29 gas driveoff. The red pick-up headed north on Highway 61; the port was notified.

Saturday, March 6

2:07 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted a motorist who ran out of gas.

7:34 a.m., Grand Portage: Grand Portage man, 19, arrested after his girlfriend said he choked her.

11:12 a.m., Lutsen: Ambulance requested at the ski hill for a woman, 27, with a head injury.

1:25 p.m., Grand Marais: Thunder Bay man, 37, cited for speeding.

Sunday, March 7

11:11 a.m., Grand Marais: Injured deer reported near mile marker 130.

4:21 p.m., Lutsen: Deputy requested at the Eagle Ridge parking lot following a minor fender-bender involving the shuttle.

5:14 p.m., Grand Portage: The driver of a vehicle with Canadian plates was stopped at Reservation River and cited for open container and speeding. The driver was seen leaving Holiday drinking a Coors Lite.

9:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Assistance requested in removing an unwanted man from a residence.
