10:55 a.m., Tofte: Grass fire off West Highway 61.
11:32 a.m., Tofte: Caller said there is a big black dog
walking eastbound along the hiking trail.
12:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Speeding complaints in the
area of Hedstrom’s Lumber.
12:56 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller from Pike Lake Road
said there is a vehicle parked in her driveway, and she
doesn’t know who it belongs to.
2:15 p.m., Hovland: Smoke and fire alarm activated at a
residence on Stonegate Road. It was caused by cooking,
and the caller doesn’t know how to shut it off.
4:49 p.m., Hovland: Caller from Echo Woods said
somebody started a pile of tree roots on fire and left,
and now his yard is basically on fire.
5:24 p.m., Grand Marais: A 4-year-old was locked
inside the restroom at Pincushion Mountain Overlook.
6:12 p.m., Grand Portage: Power outage on Upper
Road.
10:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Loud music complaint.
Tuesday, July 25
6:35 a.m., Grand Marais: Graffiti and vandalism were
reported at Sawtooth Elementary School.
8:45 a.m., Grand Marais: Arrest made on a Wadena
County warrant.
9:34 a.m., Grand Marais: Theft of pallets reported.
3:10 p.m., Lutsen: Parties checked out of Eagle Ridge
and did not pay their bill.
4:59 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of two black cows
walking along Highway 61 near Fall River Road. The
owner was notified.
7:23 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said a group of teens
was swearing at a tourist near Artist Point.
9:01 p.m., Grand Marais: There was a smell of smoke at
Sawtooth Ridges, but no sign of flames.
Wednesday, July 26
12:46 a.m., Grand Portage: Motion alarm activated at
the Great Hall at the national monument. All was found
to be secure.
7:51 a.m., Grand Marais: A big black dog ran off from
Birch Drive sometime overnight.
2:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Numerous parking violations
at the Grand Marais fire hall.
3:17 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said two cars parked on
the Croftville Road were creating a hazard.
4:04 p.m., Grand Marais: Fire department responded to
a propane tank leak at Holiday.
4:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Phone scam reported.
5:12 p.m., Grand Marais: A parked vehicle was hit in
the Birchwood Apartments parking lot.
7:19 p.m., Grand Marais: A boat on Lake Superior was
out of gas, and the occupants could not contact the
Coast Guard.
Thursday, July 27
10:16 a.m., Grand Marais: A driver’s license was found
on the sidewalk near Ben Franklin.
2:30 p.m., Grand Marais: A small backpack was lost
somewhere in town.
5:18 p.m., Grand Portage: U.S. Customs stopped two
Canadians at the border with 39 grams of marijuana
and 21 tablets of speed in their possession.
5:55 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said she could see what
looks like a moose out in the distance (five or six miles)
swimming in Lake Superior, away from the shore, and
she’s afraid it’s going to drown.
7:00 p.m., Tofte: Report of a reckless driver near
Holiday.
Friday, July 28
12:05 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller wanted to know if a
valid learner’s permit from Alaska would also be valid
in Minnesota. After some checking, it was found that
yes, it would also be valid in Minnesota.
3:59 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a dead deer on the
highway near Kadunce River.
4:56 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of two dogs left in a
hot car across the road from Sydney’s.
7:56 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a strong smell of
propane behind Aspen Lodge.
8:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a party going on up
by the towers on Maple Hill Drive.
Saturday, July 29
10:50 a.m., Grand Marais: A dog was struck by a vehicle
on Devil Track Road.
12:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said there is a very
small black dog running on the highway-Gunflint Trail,
and it is very scared.
3:16 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller from Pinewood Drive
said someone shot out their dock light.
4:35 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller said her nephew
continues to call and harass her over a cat.
Sunday, July 30
4:54 a.m., Grand Portage: Assault reported.
12:04 p.m., Grand Portage: Callers were concerned
about a dog that has been tied to a vehicle at the state
park since about 9 a.m.
3:22 p.m., Hovland: Power outage on Cornish Lane
caused by a downed tree.
3:31 p.m., Grand Marais: An outboard motor was
reported lost at Elbow Lake Access.
3:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Bicycle theft reported at
Birchwood Apartments.
8:32 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a black Lab, possibly
with a broken leg, going up First Street.
9:51 p.m., Grand Marais: Strong propane smell reported
near NAPA.
10:13 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said a group of kids is
playing and yelling at the bridge on County Road 7.
