Monday, Jan. 18

12:00 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputies responded to a burglar alarm at Superior Design. The owner requested cancellation.

11:19 a.m., Lutsen: Report of a hit-andrun. A witness said the suspect backed into another vehicle, got out and took a quick look at the damage (some paint transfer), and then left the scene.

12:26 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a two-vehicle accident at the stoplight. No injuries.

4:31 p.m., Grand Marais: A vehicle that was left parked near a business for “quite a while” was towed after the property owner complained.

6:11 p.m., Grand Portage: Report of a silver car with Grand Portage plates driving toward Tofte with no tail lights.

6:16 p.m., Grand Marais: Credit card fraud reported.

9:41 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a lost wallet.

Tuesday, Jan. 19

11:00 a.m., Grand Marais: Parent concerned about possible drug use by a child.

11:59 a.m., Grand Marais: Citation issued for an unsecured load. The Hovland man, 50, was not cited for littering because he went back and picked up what he dropped on the highway.

Wednesday, Jan. 20

8:28 a.m., Grand Marais: A passerby who stopped near Five Mile Rock to check on a truck in the ditch fell and suffered facial injuries. The wrecked truck had been there for a while, and was previously reported.

12:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of two bikes from a residence.

1:31 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said he discovered a makeshift shelter in the woods near the bus garage.

1:53 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputies called to a disturbance at the courthouse.

2:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Assistance requested on the west end of Flour Lake for a skier with a possibly broken hip.

3:35 p.m., Grand Marais: A person with a warrant was seen in a hair salon.

3:43 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of an assault that happened earlier in the day at the school in gym class.

Thursday, Jan. 21

2:55 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputies responded to a burglar alarm at the Border Patrol building. An open door was found, but a Border Patrol officer arrived and checked the building — everything appeared to be okay. 11:29 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of fraudulent activity on a bank account that occurred last September. The victim said $2,400 was missing.

Friday, Jan. 22

3:50 a.m., Grand Marais: Warrant issued for a man who failed to appear in court on an illegal transport of firearms in a motor vehicle charge.

8:30 p.m., Grand Marais: A Grand Portage man, 42, was arrested for violation of an order for protection. The victim said the man was in her car, yelling at her, and wouldn’t get out.

9:50 p.m., Grand Marais: A man came into the Law Enforcement Center with some disturbing phone messages on his cell phone. The number could not be confirmed.

Saturday, Jan. 23

10:15 a.m., Grand Marais: Hit-and-run damage occurred to a vehicle that was parked in front of the pharmacy on the highway. Damage to the driver’s side door prevents it from opening.

12:48 p.m., Grand Marais: A person removed his vehicle from a lot without paying the tow bill.

8:33 p.m., Grand Portage: The casino reported that someone just stole $885 from another person.

9:00 p.m., Grand Marais: A deputy helped locate two lost snowmobilers on Two Island Lake.

10:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Driver rescued after his vehicle went into the ditch on the upper side of County Road 7, about a half-mile from the highway intersection. No injuries reported.

Sunday, Jan. 24

7:47 a.m., Hovland: A sled dog truck pulling a snowmobile trailer and snowmobile went into the ditch on County Road 69 near Judge Magney. Thetrailer was damaged. There were no dogs in the truck.

10:08 a.m., Grand Marais: State Patrol relayed a request from MnDOT about the need to clear drains along the highway and in town due to water backing up and flooding the roadway. The city investigated and said the drains were taking as much water as they could — the snow was melting too fast and overwhelming the drains. Themunicipal lot was also flooded, but there was nothing that could be done about it.

12:11 p.m., Lutsen: Reported loss of a purse that was left at Moguls the night before.

12:52 p.m., Grand Marais: TheHighway Department assisted the Gunflint Trail Fire Department with a stuck 50-passenger coach bus on the Hungry Jack Road near Leo Lake. The road was too slippery for the bus to make it.

1:06 p.m., Lutsen: Numerous reports about “very dangerous” conditions along the highway.

9:34 p.m., Grand Marais: REA called to take care of sparking power lines
