Monday, Dec. 19
5:39 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said his neighbor’s
vehicle appears to have been running all night.
9:00 a.m., Grand Marais: Owner of an extremely shy
dog, “Shawnee,” reported that she has gone missing from
an East Highway 61 residence.
10:50 a.m., Grand Marais: Driver cited for illegal passing.
3:04 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller from East Fifth Street
said about five mailboxes have been opened, but nothing
has been taken.
3:32 p.m, Grand Marais: Reported theft of two pistols
and a fish house from Birchwood Apartments.
3:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy participated in Safe
Routes to School.
4:52 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller said he received a
threatening text.
7:45 p.m., Grand Portage: Speeding citation issued.
8:13 p.m., Grand Marais: Speeding citation issued.
8:14 p.m., Lutsen: False alarm received from Lutsen
Resort.
Tuesday, Dec. 20
7:59 a.m., Grand Marais: Safe Routes to School.
9:39 a.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle in the ditch off County
Road 7. There were no injuries reported, and a tow truck
was called.
9:40 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested at the
courthouse to provide security in case people get out of
hand at the commissioners’ meeting.
10:45 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of debris on the
highway.
1:14 p.m., Lutsen: Disabled vehicle at the intersection of
Highway 61 and Steam Engine Road.
Wednesday, Dec. 21
7:54 a.m., Grand Portage: School patrol.
8:08 a.m., Grand Marais: School patrol.
10:39 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said a deputy driving
on Highway 61 did not have his headlights on. However,
state statute does not require headlights to be turned
on when it is neither dark nor precipitating, whether a
squad car or not. The deputy’s fog lights were on.
11:46 a.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle in the ditch near the
water tower.
1:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Parking complaint regarding a
logging truck at Creechville Road-West Ninth Street. The
caller said it was tough for him to get out of his driveway.
Thursday, Dec. 22
7:15 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of possibly illegal
camping at Pincushion Mountain Overlook.
12:10 p.m., Lutsen: Caller said there is a lot of smoke in
the area near Ski Hill Road.
3:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Speeding citation issued.
3:09 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller from Birchwood
Apartments reported a smell of marijuana. A deputy
responded and no smell was detected.
5:10 p.m., Hovland: A deer was struck by the Arrowhead
Transit bus. There was virtually no damage to the bus,
but it was unknown what became of the deer.
6:21 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a husky running on
the Gunflint Trail near Trout Lake Road.
Friday, Dec. 23
9:44 a.m., Schroeder: Deputy assisted State Patrol with a
two-car accident on the bridge at the Caribou River near
the county line.
10:23 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said a husky is running
around on County Road 60, just west of County Road
14.
10:54 a.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called to the ski hill for a
14-year-old boy with a femur fracture.
12:05 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a flipped-over truck
at South Gunflint Lake-Gunflint Trail.
12:49 p.m., Grand Marais: Lost set of car keys reported.
4:56 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said there is either a
large dog or a deer in the eastbound lane of the highway
at mile marker 106.
11:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a fight in the bar at
Grandma Ray’s.
Saturday, Dec. 24
2:56 a.m., Lutsen: Complaint about a loud party in a
room at Lutsen Resort.
9:52 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a black-and-white
cocker spaniel running around near North House Folk
School.
10:50 a.m., Tofte: Caller said the attendant at the recycle
center has collapsed.
11:11 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said he heard at least
six gunshots near Moonshadow Trail. A deputy located
the source, and it was an individual sighting in a rifle
legally.
11:23 a.m., Tofte: Caller complained about six
snowmobiles driving down the bike path along the
highway.
3:40 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about snowmobilers
using the cross country ski trails.
6:31 p.m., Grand Marais: A deer carcass was pulled off
the highway at Devil Track River.
Sunday, Dec. 25
12:05 p.m., Hovland: Speeding citation issued.
2:45 p.m., Lutsen: Complaint about people burning
cardboard boxes and plastic in a campfire on White
Birch Trail.
5:10 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a loose dog running
around the MnDOT garage, with a leash hanging off its
collar.
8:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle in the ditch off the
Gunflint Trail. No injuries reported.
9:33 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller said there are four guys
out fighting on Blazes Road.
