Friday, Jan. 8

12:26 a.m., Lutsen: A deputy was called to Papa Charlie’s after the staff caught someone stealing liquor. A man and two women were detained by security for what was thought to be theft of a bottle of champagne. The girls picked up an empty bottle when they were leaving as a souvenir, but employees thought the bottle was full. The man who was detained was not with the women and not involved. All parties were released with no charges filed.

9:26 a.m., Grand Marais: Reported abuse of a cold, shivering dog at GoFer Cabins. The caller said the dog was tied to a tree near the back door of the office, and the rope was wrapped around the tree, leaving only a few feet for the dog to move. Thedog was gone when a deputy arrived.

2:06 p.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called to the ski hill for a man in his 20s who was unconscious. He was taken to the hospital.

4:39 p.m., Lutsen: Hit-and-run at Papa Charlie’s sometime overnight, causing a dent in the driver’s side door.

5:35 p.m., Lutsen: Extra patrols requested at the ski hill because of heavy traffic.

9:15 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to help a man who was locked out of his apartment. However, a spare key was found before the deputy arrived.

9:20 p.m., Lutsen: A deputy and state trooper helped remove an unruly male patron from Lutsen Mountains who refused to leave the premises. He was given a ride back to his lodging and told not to come back.

10:14 p.m., Grand Portage: A juvenile female was arrested following a domestic altercation.

11:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that his sons were drinking at their mother’s.

Saturday, Jan. 9

12:53 p.m., Grand Portage: A 19-year-old Grand Portage man was arrested following a vehicle roll-over on Bay Road, and charged with 4th-degree DWI, criminal vehicular operation and underage drinking and driving. A passenger was taken to the hospital with a lower back injury.

Sunday, Jan. 10

9:11 a.m., Lutsen: Caribou Highlands reported that a guest had her vehicle egged sometime overnight. The victim had called in a noise complaint regarding people in another room the previous night, and it is believed they were the suspects in the egging. However, they had already checked out and gone.

2:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that a number of people were getting into a vehicle with open bottles of alcohol. A license plate that was given was not on file.

6:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported breakin of a house that is under construction.

10:16 p.m., Grand Marais: A woman was arrested on a Beltrami County warrant for felony check forgery.

Monday, Jan. 11

9:26 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a vehicle that has been parked at Cascade for about three days. The caller was concerned that there may be a lost hiker.

9:58 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported that she was missing about 14 oxycodone pills.

Tuesday, Jan. 12

8:55 a.m., Grand Marais: Birch Terrace reported that a door was kicked in sometime overnight. There was nothing missing.

10:43 a.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle in the ditch near 2681 E. Highway 61. No injuries.

12:17 p.m., Lutsen: Reported break-in of a cabin. Theowner said he found that the power had been shut off, there had been a fire in the fireplace, the drapes had been taped shut, doors were open, things were moved around, and there were pry marks on the exterior door. It was unknown if anything was missing. 2:03 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of a DNR registration number from an ice fishing house in Elbow Lake.

4:47 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller concerned about a man living in his truck. Public Health & Human Services notified.

Wednesday, Jan. 13

1:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Welfare check requested on two boys believed to be home all alone.

4:20 p.m., Hovland: Reported unattended fire on the beach near the Hovland dock. The fire department was paged, but no equipment was needed; two firefighters put out the campfire.

Thursday, Jan. 14

8:41 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said there was a deer in her yard with wire wrapped around its neck. Game warden notified.

2:17 p.m., Grand Marais: A Crookston man, 24, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after deputies followed two sets of suspicious footprints along the beach and on several private properties near Terrace Point.

7:46 p.m., Grand Marais: A doe was seen sitting in the middle of the lane on the highway about one mile west of town. A deputy was called to put it down.

Friday, Jan. 15

1:16 a.m., Grand Marais: A suspicious man was outside a residence yelling. A deputy located him at Gunflint Motel, where he was staying.

8:16 a.m., Grand Marais: A semi was parked overnight, blocking the entrance of SOB. The driver was found inside, sleeping, and said he would move the truck.

9:14 a.m., Grand Marais: Suspicious activity investigated at a Gunflint Trail property.

2:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Owner reported a break-in at a cabin on West Second Avenue — everything had been taken. The suspects are possibly the tenants who had just been kicked out.

3:05 p.m., Schroeder: Reported theft of a canoe, valued at $800.

8:51 p.m., Grand Marais: Gunflint Lodge reported that there was a mangy wolf hanging around outside, and it just turned on one of the guests. The game warden was notified.

8:57 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that a strange white car pulled up alongside a pedestrian on Eighth Avenue West and offered a ride. When he was refused, the car drove off.

11:39 p.m., Grand Marais: An intoxicated man was seen near the library, screaming and hitting his head against the wall. A deputy gave him a ride to a friend’s residence.

Saturday, Jan. 16

3:00 a.m., Tofte: Officers were called to a domestic argument between two men, who were threatening to beat each other up. They separated before the officers arrived. However, two females were cited for underage consumption.

5:00 a.m., Grand Marais: The Cook County ambulance struck a deer on the highway, just east of the Highway 1 intersection.

11:07 a.m., Grand Marais: A burglar alarm was set off at the Border Patrol’s building on South Broadway. It was a false alarm.

4:54 p.m., Schroeder: Deputy asked to check on a vehicle that had been parked at the post officeall day.

7:29 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to check on three overdue people who were ice fishing. They called soon after, saying everything was okay.

10:57 p.m., Grand Portage: Anonymous caller reported that there are two people driving around in a little green car, and neither one is a valid driver.

Sunday, Jan. 17

5:17 a.m., Lutsen: Deputy assistance requested to remove four intoxicated and yelling people from a condo at Caribou Highlands.

8:49 a.m., Grand Marais: A vehicle was found nose-down in the ditch near 2021 E. Highway 61.

3:03 p.m., Hovland: Report of an injured deer on the highway. It was dead when a trooper arrived.
