6:24 a.m., Tofte: Vehicle traveling up the Sawbill Trail near Six
Mile Creek was struck by a moose, creating a small amount of
body damage and breaking the windshield. The moose ran off
into the woods.
6:33 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said a guy in a white shirt and
khakis was sleeping in the lot at the bottom of Third Avenue West.
9:36 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said he saw an ATV traveling
north on the Gunflint Trail, about two miles north of the Trout
Lake Road, in what he believes is an area closed to ATVs.
11:23 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller lost his driver’s license and
wallet while fishing; it’s at the bottom of Loon Lake.
12:37 p.m., Grand Marais: Attempted phone fraud reported.
1:23 p.m., Grand Marais: Parking complaint regarding an RV left
near the Harbor Light.
3:39 p.m., Grand Marais: Speeding complaint about the Firewise
crew.
6:43 p.m., Hovland: Power outage on Stonegate Road.
7:25 p.m., Lutsen: Report of a sparking power line on Peninsula
Point Trail.
8:00 p.m., Hovland: Caller said lightning struck his septic system,
causing damage and leaving a three-foot hole outside.
8:31 p.m., Tofte: False fire alarm at Bluefin Bay.
8:40 p.m., Grand Marais: A bear cub was struck by a vehicle on
the Gunflint Trail.
9:49 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted a state trooper with
booking an intoxicated person.
10:38 p.m., Grand Marais: False fire alarm at the Care Center
caused by water leaking in from the roof.
Tuesday, Sept. 13
12:11 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller from the Rec Park could hear a
man yelling what she thinks is “help!”
2:14 a.m., Grand Marais: An individual was found sleeping on the
steps of a Wisconsin Street business.
7:54 a.m., Grand Marais: School patrol.
9:15 a.m., Lutsen: Traffic citation issued.
10:51 a.m., Grand Marais: Theft of a phone reported.
2:00 p.m., Schroeder: Traffic citation issued.
2:13 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of illegal dumping at the YMCA.
7:22 p.m., Grand Marais: A dog was struck by a vehicle at mile
marker 112.
Wednesday, Sept. 14
7:28 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputies participated in Safe Routes to
School.
8:27 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted with removal of an
unwanted intoxicated person.
9:00 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller from Lookout Road reported
suspicious activity. The deck furniture was moved all around, and
the bird feeder moved from the window to in the grill.
3:56 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a motorcycle speeding
up Broadway.
5:43 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of a Clinton sign on
Devil Track Road.
8:08 p.m., Schroeder: Report of three people trespassing at the
Minnesota Power plant.
9:14 p.m., Grand Marais: Arrest made for DWI.
11:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about an idling semi at
Mangy Moose.
Thursday, Sept. 15
1:28 a.m., Grand Portage: Alarm sounding on Upper Road. The
key holder couldn’t be reached.
2:57 p.m., Grand Marais: Windows will be left open at Johnson
Heritage Post overnight to allow it to dry out after some flooding.
3:35 p.m., Schroeder: A pick-up was in the ditch off the highway,
partially blocking the lane of traffic.
3:55 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of two crotch rockets speeding
eastbound at the Rock Cut.
4:53 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted a motorist with a flat
tire.
5:54 p.m., Hovland: Possible theft of medication from a residence
reported.
9:25 p.m., Grand Marais: The folk school requested deputy patrols
of the campus overnight and tomorrow, as sound equipment is
stored there.
Friday, Sept. 16
9:55 a.m., Grand Marais: Parking complaint about a Jeep left in
the Senior Center lot all week.
12:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a raccoon caught in a live
trap on private property, however the caller did not put the trap
out. Transferred to State Patrol.
2:04 p.m., Grand Marais: Threats reported.
4:25 p.m., Grand Portage: Break-in and theft reported.
7:26 p.m., Lutsen: Report of a large explosion on the bay of
Caribou Lake.
8:04 p.m., Tofte: False fire alarm at Surfside.
Saturday, Sept. 17
12:42 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller said there is a man in her house,
and now in her bedroom.
9:43 a.m., Tofte: Car-deer accident on the highway.
9:52 a.m., Grand Marais: A car parked near the donut shop was
struck by another vehicle.
10:29 a.m., Grand Marais: Fraud reported.
2:11 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy checked on two vehicles parked
at the water tower.
3:25 p.m., Tofte: Traffic citation issued.
3:26 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a dirt bike racing up
and down Fifth Avenue West.
3:46 p.m., Tofte: Traffic citation issued.
4:08 p.m., Grand Marais: A dog was running in and out of traffic
at County Road 7-Fall River Road.
4:19 p.m., Grand Marais: A load of brush was lost from a truck
and dumped on County Road 7.
7:23 p.m., Grand Portage: Customs advised the sheriff of a man
who just came through with only $20 and no food or place to stay.
7:52 p.m., Grand Marais: A set of keys was found at Sydney’s.
11:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle in the ditch at mile marker 104.
Sunday, Sept. 18
5:12 a.m., Tofte: Domestic altercation resulting in property
damage reported.
7:05 a.m., Hovland: Deer struck by a vehicle at mile marker 128.
9:00 a.m., Grand Marais: Traffic citation issued.
11:07 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a lot of shots fired in the area
of North Pike Lake Road during the night, and now this morning
over 200 more shots.
11:53 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of an injured sea gull at Joynes.
12:45 p.m., Grand Marais: A barrel of cooking oil in the alley
behind Harbor House tipped over, and the pallet it was on is
blocking the alley.
1:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic citation issued.
2:43 p.m., Grand Marais: A large tree was blocking Shoe Lake
Road.
4:43 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller from West Highway 61 had a
female pit bull in her yard.
5:07 p.m., Grand Marais: The front door of the liquor store was
found open.
5:31 p.m., Grand Marais: Traffic citation issued.
