Monday, July 11
8:41 a.m., Tofte: False fire alarm at
Bluefin Bay.
8:53 a.m., Tofte: A minor traffic
accident occurred on Tofte
Homestead Drive when someone
backed out of a driveway and was
struck by a vehicle traveling slowly
on the road. There were no injuries
reported.
9:03 a.m., Grand Portage: Report
of a blue Jeep with Ontario plates
sitting in front of Ryden’s Border
Store, with an intoxicated female
driver. The driver said she was not
intoxicated, she had a previous head
injury and needed assistance.
10:35 a.m., Grand Marais: A cell
phone went missing from a booth at
the Arts Festival.
10:39 a.m., Grand Marais: A deputy
gave two hikers a ride from Judge
Magney State Park to Grand Marais.
11:40 a.m., Grand Marais: A
woman brought a dog into the Law
Enforcement Center that she found
standing in the middle of the road
looking confused.
11:51 a.m., Grand Marais: A caller
said there was a car with Georgia
plates being driven down Broadway
toward town by someone who can
barely see over the steering wheel,
and who almost hit two pedestrians.
A deputy stopped the vehicle and
warned the driver.
1:10 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said
there are three boys destroying a
bicycle in a yard on East Fifth Street.
A deputy spoke with the boys and
their mother.
3:49 p.m., Schroeder: Report
of people climbing the fence at
Minnesota Power, breaking it down
and hiding, and messing with the
cameras at North Shore Mining.
There are no suspects.
5:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said
there is a blue Jeep at the Rec Park
with a female driver who appears
to be intoxicated and just attacked
a rose bush and headed south on
Highway 61. A second caller said
the Jeep just passed him on the right
shoulder. A deputy saw the vehicle
near County Road 7 with its lights
flashing and wipers going (it wasn’t
raining). State Patrol was notified,
but it was believed to be the woman
with a head injury involved in a
previous incident at Grand Portage.
7:23 p.m., Tofte: Domestic assault
arrest made.
8:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of
two lost hikers on the Caribou Trail.
11:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Report
from Aspen Lodge that a woman is
walking around in her underwear
and holding the door open with a
broom.
Tuesday, July 12
7:19 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said
there is a dog dying in the middle of
the highway east of town near mile
marker 111.
11:28 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller
said there is a skid loader working
at the intersection of Gunflint Trail-
Pincushion Drive, and it’s very
foggy. He was concerned about an
accident.
3:10 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller
expressed concern about the welfare
of two dogs left in a parked car with
the windows up.
3:40 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said
the westbound construction light
at Croftville was flashing red, and
drivers were not sure if they were
supposed to stop or go. There were no
workers on site.
6:38 p.m., Grand Marais: A black
Lab-type dog was seen walking in
town, and appeared to have a back leg
and tail injury.
10:28 p.m., Schroeder: Suspicious
activity reported at a residence on
West Highway 61.
Wednesday, July 13
10:26 a.m., Grand Marais: A mailbox
on East Fifth Street was vandalized.
11:26 a.m., Schroeder: Theft of items
from a shed reported.
11:51 a.m., Grand Marais: A black
leather bag was found on Pike Lake
Road.
12:28 p.m., Hovland: Speeding
citation issued.
12:54 p.m., Grand Portage: Speeding
citation issued.
1:05 p.m., Grand Marais: A woman
said she left her wallet at the donut
shop, and when she went back it was
gone.
1:37 p.m., Schroeder: Caller from
Lamb’s Resort said she can see a blue
piece of plastic about 100 yards out
in Lake Superior, and it might be a
kayak.
2:38 p.m., Grand Portage: Speeding
citation issued.
5:34 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported
break-in of two sheds on Jackson
Lake Road, not sure what if anything
was taken.
7:57 p.m., Grand Marais: Family
dispute.
8:35 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said
her son defied her and took off on his
bicycle, and she would like a deputy
to go get him. The juvenile was found
and brought home.
Thursday, July 14
8:59 a.m., Tofte: A large tree was
down on the Sawbill Trail. Highway
Department notified.
11:34 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said
a semi truck traveling on the highway
was smoking. State Patrol notified.
1:22 p.m., Grand Portage: Assault
reported at the C-store.
3:24 p.m., Grand Portage: Citation
issued for driving after revocation
and no proof of insurance.
6:44 p.m., Grand Marais: A red
pick-up with a flat tire was driving
around town.
7:29 p.m., Grand Marais: Speeding
citation issued.
8:21 p.m., Schroeder: Report of a
slashed front tire at Minnesota Power.
Friday, July 15
7:48 a.m., Tofte: A report of smoke
north of Chateau Leveaux was
investigated and found to be from a
campfire on the beach.
8:01 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of
loose cows on the Gunflint Trail.
9:36 a.m., Grand Marais: A complaint
was made about loud karaoke music
coming from Birch Terrace last night.
11:44 a.m., Grand Marais: The Maple
Hill Fire Department was called to
contain an oil spill on Meridian Road
that was leaking into a pit.
12:38 p.m., Grand Portage: Fraud
reported.
6:03 p.m., Grand Marais: Theft
reported.
6:40 p.m., Lutsen: Caller was unable
to get to his residence due to a locked
Forest Service gate on Caribou Trail.
8:35 p.m., Grand Marais: A caller
from Judge Magney State Park said
there is a deer that appears to be stuck
along the river on the hiking trail.
11:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Speeding
citation issued.
Saturday, July 16
1:53 a.m., Grand Marais: A deputy
warned a group at the Rec Park for
excessive noise after two complaints
were received.
10:12 a.m., Grand Marais: A black
Lab took off from Humphrey Circle.
10:24 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint
about two bicyclists riding side-byside on Devil Track Road in the lane
of traffic.
10:30 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller was
concerned about a dog in a kennel
in the back end of a covered pick-up.
The windows were down only a
couple inches, and the dog appears to
be hot and panting.
2:25 p.m., Grand Marais: Someone
was pulling the fire alarm at Aspen
Lodge the last couple days.
3:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of
abuse of the hiking trail near the Law
Enforcement Center. The DNR was
notified.
5:43 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller was
concerned about the welfare of two
large dogs in a hot truck parked at
Coast Guard Point. The windows
were only down an inch.
7:36 p.m., Grand Portage: A
reported drug deal at the casino was
unfounded.
11:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Shots
fired on County Road 7 were from
a homeowner warning a bear on his
deck.
Sunday, July 17
12:20 a.m., Lutsen: Deputies were
called to a disturbance at Papa
Charlie’s caused by a group of
Canadians who refused to leave, and
were pulling beer out of the tap when
the staff wasn’t looking after they
refused to serve them. The incident is
under investigation.
10:32 a.m., Grand Marais: A
mountain bike was left near the front
door of the Congregational Church
and has been there for a couple
weeks.
12:29 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a
drug deal was unfounded.
12:31 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller
expressed concern for the welfare of a
dog left in a closed vehicle parked on
Wisconsin Street.
3:21 p.m., Grand Portage: False
burglar alarm at the national
monument.
5:35 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a
couple dogs running on County Road
60.
6:04 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller
reported a family dispute at GoFer
Trailer Court.
6:47 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller from
First Avenue East said there is a
clown with a beat-up old pick-up that
is on his property; the tabs are bad
and it is uninsured. The vehicle was
checked and it is legally parked.
7:05 p.m., Grand Portage: Attempted
suicide reported.
