Monday, May 18

7:43 a.m., Grand Portage: Loud music complaint.

1:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported the loss of a “very artistic looking” necklace somewhere in town.

2:41 p.m., Grand Portage: Motorist struck a deer on Mount Jo, causing extensive damage to the vehicle, but no injuries.

7:16 p.m., Grand Marais: False alarm at Sven & Ole’s, caused by telephone troubles.

8:14 p.m., Grand Marais: Thunder Bay woman, 18, cited for speeding.

11:48 p.m., Grand Portage: A Grand Portage man, 28, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, and later arrested for probation violation.

Tuesday, May 19

12:24 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that he was out for a walk when some kids pulled up in a minivan and offered him some good pot to smoke. He was unable to get a plate number. The vehicle turned off Fifth Street and onto Eighth Avenue West.

8:13 a.m., Grand Marais: Vandalism reported to an excavator that was parked at Bautch’s pit.

10:05 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported the loss of a brown leather card holder/money clip that had $200-$300 cash inside.

11:35 a.m., Grand Marais: Bloomington woman, 20, cited for speeding.

6:56 p.m., Grand Marais: Two Harbors man, 19, cited for speeding.

9:41 p.m., Grand Marais: Grand Marais man, 34, cited for driving after revocation and no proof of insurance.

Wednesday, May 20

12:38 a.m., Tofte: Deputies were called to a residence after the occupants reported hearing the door alarm buzz, and nobody else was to be in the building. It was discovered that the wind had blown open the door, which had not been properly latched, and set off the alarm.

4:01 a.m., Grand Marais: Downed trees reported in the Poplar Lake area. 5:59 p.m., Grand Marais: A Schwinn bike was found at the boat landing in town, and brought in to the Law Enforcement Center.

7:16 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputies called to investigate a report that a young guy appeared to be passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle in the Birch Terrace parking lot.

8:11 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint that a fire by the float plane base on Devil Track Lake had grown too large. A deputy found that it was just a small fire for cooking hot dogs, and was far enough from the fuel tanks.

11:44 p.m., Schroeder: Caller reported hearing gunshots somewhere near Timber and Frear lakes. No vehicles were seen.

Thursday, May 21

10:09 a.m., Grand Marais: Request for assistance for an elderly resident found deceased from a gunshot wound.

6:44 p.m., Grand Portage: Customs stopped a Minneapolis man, 26, who was wanted on warrants from Dakota and Hennepin counties.

Friday, May 22

11:07 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assistance was requested after a student went missing from a field trip, and hadn’t been seen for two hours. She was located before a deputy arrived.

11:34 a.m., Grand Marais: An inmate was taken to the hospital.

3:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Two Duluth men, ages 44 and 48, were cited for various alcohol violations.

4:17 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that a suspicious man was using hammers and crowbars to mine thomsonite out of the ditch. A deputy spoke with the man; no tools were being used.

5:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Cabin break-in reported.

Saturday, May 23

12:07 a.m., Lutsen: Deputies called to investigate a break-in of a residence on Caribou Lake. All of the liquor in the house was gone, and the owners were unsure of what else was taken.

1:27 p.m., Lutsen: A vehicle left the road and hit a sign. No injuries reported.

8:53 p.m., Hovland: Caller reported hearing multiple shots fired near Chicago Bay Marketplace.

10:52 p.m., Grand Marais: Keys reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on the Lindskog Road.

11:11 p.m., Grand Marais: A Minneapolis woman, 47, was arrested for DWI-test refusal, and booked into jail.

11:16 p.m., Grand Marais: Barking dog complaint near Sawtooth Ridges.

Sunday, May 24

1:23 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of loud drag racing near the intersection of County Roads 6 and 8.

2:40 p.m., Lutsen: Theft of $15 cash and some maple candles reported. The caller said he believed the suspects were of high school age, and have done the same thing before.

4:21 p.m., Tofte: Vehicle flipped over on the Sawbill Trail, about 2 miles from the lower grade. All four occupants were okay, but a tow truck was needed. A driving after cancellation citation was issued.

9:13 p.m., Grand Marais: Alarm at Gunflint Hills Golf Course was set off.

10:45 p.m., Grand Marais: Gunshots reported near Paradise Beach.

11:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Best Western complained about a group of 15 kids making loud noises and having a campfire on the beach, disturbing other guests. A deputy spoke with the group, and they quieted down.
