Monday, Aug. 4
12:06 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller saw a large timber wolf in the
upper parking lot at Birchwood Apartments, and could hear a
dog barking in the lower lot. The wolf may be headed toward
the dog.
6:27 a.m., Grand Marais: A Dumpster near the maintenance
shop at the Rec Park was smoking.
8:21 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of inappropriate pictures
spray-painted on the back of the building at Security State
Bank.
8:47 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said a softball hit the top of his
camper near the Rec Park softball field the previous day, and
shattered the skylight on top. The ball is still stuck there.
9:33 a.m., Grand Marais: Harassment.
11:02 a.m., Grand Portage: Theft of a four-wheeler reported.
11:10 a.m., Grand Marais: Mustang in the ditch near
Pincushion Overlook.
11:35 a.m., Grand Marais: Parking complaint about a big white
van parked on Broadway for about a month.
12:08 p.m., Grand Marais: A chainsaw was found in the
middle of the road near Grand Marais Motors.
2:30 p.m., Grand Marais: Driver’s license possibly stolen.
3:09 p.m., Grand Marais: Suspicious activity reported on Old
Shore Road. A flashlight was seen, then there were two people
almost to the cabin, who then took off running.
4:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller saw a young man crawl under
the fence at the wastewater treatment plant, and then crawl
back out.
7:14 p.m., Grand Marais: An abandoned folding chair was
found on the beach at Artist Point and taken to the Law
Enforcement Center.
Tuesday, Aug. 5
10:30 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller asked that a deputy stop by
the state park and speak with a drifter who is camping there.
11:56 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller was concerned about the
welfare of a truck driver who was parked near the Como
building. There was heavy blue smoke coming from the
muffler for 10-20 minutes, possibly suffocating the driver.
12:16 p.m., Grand Marais: Missing dog reported on Fifth
Avenue West.
12:46 p.m., Grand Portage: False fire alarm at the tribal council
building.
1:03 p.m., Grand Marais: A pink Barbie bike was found
abandoned at the Rec Park.
6:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a suspicious-looking man
with a Mohawk sitting at the Trading Post.
10:06 p.m., Tofte: Illegal fireworks complaint.
Wednesday, Aug. 6
8:14 a.m., Grand Marais: A flagger in the construction zone,
35, was having chest pains.
3:25 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a young injured sea gull on
the beach near East Bay. It appeared to have a broken wing.
3:41 p.m., Grand Marais: A hiker was separated from his
group at Magney Park.
5:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported seeing a dog in a
parked truck near the Senior Center every day – same dog,
same location.
7:03 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of two kids skating down the
center of County Road 7 and not moving over for vehicles.
8:25 p.m., Grand Marais: A couple skipped out on their bill at
the American Legion.
10:47 p.m., Grand Marais: Kids were throwing rocks at the
pop machine at the Rec park.
Thursday, Aug. 7
1:43 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller said it sounds like someone is
outside his home.
3:12 a.m., Grand Portage: Tractor-trailer fire at Customs.
9:07 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said a powerboat just left the
harbor at a high rate of speed, creating a wake and causing a
lot of damage to his sailboat.
11:59 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said there were 10-15 cows
from the neighbor’s farm in his yard.
12:46 p.m., Grand Marais: Theft of e-cigarettes from Super
America.
1:17 p.m., Grand Marais: Lost checkbook reported.
1:20 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller expressed concern about the
welfare of a man who has been drinking for two days near the
powwow grounds, and is passed out in his truck.
2:38 p.m., Tofte: Gas drive-off of $33.72 from Holiday.
4:54 p.m., Grand Marais: Domestic argument.
10:51 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a loud group at
the Rec Park.
Friday, Aug. 8
10:58 a.m., Grand Marais: Trailer house on fire on East Fifth
Street.
8:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Illegal burning reported on
Creechville Road.
9:39 p.m., Grand Marais: Two Yorkies were missing on Birch
Drive.
10:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a drunk person
who was in a store on Highway 61.
Saturday, Aug. 9
12:00 a.m., Grand Portage: Man cited for possession of drug
paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana at the national
monument.
12:20 a.m., Grand Portage: Assault.
4:48 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said there was a wolf
wandering through Artist Point.
7:23 p.m., Hovland: Report of a grass fire on the Arrowhead
Trail.
7:26 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of an overturned boat out on
Loon Lake, with two or three people struggling in the water.
7:54 p.m., Grand Marais: Lost wallet.
9:18 p.m., Grand Marais: Man arrested for DWI.
9:41 p.m., Tofte: Illegal fireworks complaint.
9:53 p.m., Grand Marais: Illegal fireworks complaint from the
Rec Park.
10:38 p.m., Schroeder: Illegal fireworks complaint.
Sunday, Aug. 10
2:04 p.m., Grand Marais: Truck on fire near Solbakken Motel.
3:04 p.m., Grand Marais: Citation issued for failure to yield to
a pedestrian in the crosswalk.
6:50 p.m., Tofte: False fire alarm at a residence.
11:18 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said the pool lights at the Y
are on. Is everything okay?
11:43 p.m., Grand Marais: Driver cited for driving after
suspension.
