When court proceedings are complete, the Cook County News-
Herald publishes a complete accounting of names and penalties
in its Matters of Record.

Monday, Oct. 19

11:06 a.m., Grand Marais: Report that a 17-foot Fiberglas Necky kayak was lost from the shoreline during the Sept. 28 wind storm.

11:41 a.m., Grand Marais: Violator of an order for protection arrested.

11:54 a.m., Grand Marais: Juvenile tobacco offender citation. A female was caught smoking near the Community Center.

12:05 p.m., Grand Marais: Grand Marais man, 20, cited for exhibition driving and no proof of insurance.

12:25 p.m., Grand Marais: Cambridge man, 27, cited for no seat belt.

12:28 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputies responding to a residential burglar alarm discovered an unlocked door. The residence was checked, nothing was found and the door was secured.

6:51 p.m., Grand Marais: Barking dog complaint that has been going on for four years. When the deputy arrived, the dog that barks the most had been taken inside, and the dog outside barked briefly. The owner was advised.

8:34 p.m., Lutsen: An injured wolf, possibly with a broken leg, seen on the side of the highway across from REA.

10:57 p.m., Grand Portage: Complaint about loud music and partying at a neighbor’s.

11:36 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of suspicious activity in the parking lot between East Bay Suites and Cascade Kayaks. The caller said it appeared as though the occupants of two vehicles were using their laptops for scamming.

Tuesday, Oct. 20

10:27 a.m., Grand Marais: Forest Service notified of a report of a smoldering fire on the north side of Gust Lake.

12:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Two-vehicle accident on Fifth Street. No injuries.

1:22 p.m., Grand Marais: A teacher found a marijuana pipe on the school steps, and requested that a deputy pick it up.

3:32 p.m., Grand Marais: Barking dog complaint on Eighth Avenue West and Third Street. The caller said the dogs have been barking all day.

Wednesday, Oct. 21

7:53 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said her son is upset about his car and is yelling outside.

4:20 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a vehicle heading eastbound from the Gunflint Trail pulling a U-haul trailer with the back door open.

4:24 p.m., Schroeder: One-vehicle roll-over accident near the county line, unknown injuries.

4:49 p.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle in the ditch about a mile south of Swamper Lake on the Gunflint Trail.

5:23 p.m., Grand Marais: Power line on the ground.

9:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a black-and-white husky mix walking in circles on Highway 61 near Alfred Creek Road.

9:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to remove an unwanted intoxicated person from the residence.

Thursday, Oct. 22

8:07 a.m., Tofte: Report that a tractor trailer was parked across from Holiday, partially in the traffic lane, creating a hazard.

6:28 p.m., Grand Portage: Report of a woman wearing dark clothing walking on the highway. The caller was concerned that the woman could not easily be seen. State Patrol gave the woman a ride back to town.

Friday, Oct. 23

1:14 a.m., Grand Marais: Gunflint Lodge reported a cabin roof fully engulfed in fire.

5:27 p.m., Grand Marais: Two deputies brought a man from Lake County Jail to Cook County Hospital to be admitted for his hunger strike. The deputies were to switch off as guard at the hospital for the duration of the inmate’s stay.

Saturday, Oct. 24

12:37 a.m., Grand Marais: State Patrol found a street light that had been hit by a vehicle and totally sheared off. The vehicle’s license plate was left at the scene, but the vehicle could not be found. Thecity PUC was notified.

7:04 a.m., Grand Marais: Driver rolled her vehicle off the highway attempting to avoid hitting two deer. One of the deer was killed and the truck needed a tow.

1:38 p.m., Grand Portage: Customs stopped a Canadian woman, 20, who was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana. A deputy issued a citation.

6:26 p.m., Grand Marais: Barking dog complaint.

8:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about an unleashed dog that was barking at a passerby who was walking a dog on a leash.

11:44 p.m., Tofte: Tofte Fire Department called to check a series of false alarms coming from the employee housing above Coho. Everything was found to be okay.

Sunday, Oct. 25

12:13 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a deer hit and still alive on

2×4 ads to run ONE TIME, the week Highway 61 between Harbor Light and the Howl ‘N Wolf. The

deer was found dead, and moved off the roadway.

7:25 a.m., Tofte: Report of an injured wolf walking down Highway 61 near Fly By Drive. Game warden notified.

1:43 p.m., Grand Marais: Woman complained that a vehicle didn’t yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk at the bottom of Fifth Avenue West.

1:55 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller wanted to make someone aware of the constant partying and marijuana smoking going on near her residence.

2:21 p.m., Grand Marais: Barking dog complaint.

5:36 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called to remove a son and daughter-in-law from a residence who were not supposed to be there. They just stopped by to get some clothes.

11:20 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to remove an intoxicated person.
