Monday, Oct. 5
10:30 a.m., Grand Marais: Sex offender fail to register.
1:46 p.m., Tofte: Report that an apartment was broken into. The tenant said someone punched a hole in the wall, smashed CDs and sunglasses, and the stereo and guitar are missing.
1:47 p.m., Grand Marais: Citation issued to a Maplewood woman, 38, for a seat belt violation.
4:45 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint from the school that four students signed up for the late bus, and they aren’t participants in any sports (which is a requirement). A deputy explained that they would have to find other transportation.
Tuesday, Oct. 6
1:22 a.m., Lutsen: Lutsen Resort requested an ambulance for a medical emergency at Poplar River Condos. The Cook County Ambulance struck a deer near Thomsonite Beach, but continued on to the scene.
9:05 a.m., Grand Marais: A deputy checked on a vehicle that was parked for two days at Cutface wayside, with keys inside. The vehicle was found to be secure, and there are no signs prohibiting overnight parking.
4:23 p.m., Grand Marais: Car in the ditch on East Bearskin Road. There were no injuries, and a tow truck was called.
Wednesday, Oct. 7
3:43 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of debris on the highway that caused a flat tire. The roadway was cleared.
9:02 a.m., Grand Marais: A wallet was found in the mailbox at the post office and turned in to the sheriff.
11:09 a.m., Grand Marais: Resident reported that he found a green 16-foot Winonah canoe on his property that had life jackets and paddles in it. It had expired registration from outfitters that sell off old canoes. The canoe will be held for the owner to claim.
11:25 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of llamas loose on County Road 7. 11:46 a.m., Grand Marais: Juvenile male, 17, of Grand Portage cited for possession of tobacco.
11:56 a.m., Grand Marais: Vandalism and mischief were reported at Nelson Traveler’s Rest and two neighboring motels. One light bulb was broken, several blankets, toilet paper and other items were scattered and thrown about, and patio chairs were set out on the bike path.
6:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that a dark-colored Honda speeds regularly between the library and the school on Second Avenue.
6:36 p.m., Schroeder: A caller from Boston drove into the ditch turning around on Highway 61 and needed assistance. She said she had many helpful tourists who stopped, but there were no mile markers nearby and she had no clue as to her location between Highway 1 and Grand Marais. She was found by Nelson’s Towing.
6:43 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller requested extra patrols in the hopes of catching whoever is knocking on her door in the middle of the night. She was advised to call when it happens.
9:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of pills missing from an apartment.
Thursday, Oct. 8
8:09 a.m., Grand Marais: Twovehicle accident on the highway near Dockside. A passing motorist hit an unoccupied vehicle and both airbags deployed. There were minor injuries, but the driver refused treatment.
10:02 a.m., Grand Marais: A 17-yearold student had cigarettes sticking out of his pocket, and when he was confronted by a staff member he refused to give them up. He left on foot toward the Lutheran Church.
10:55 a.m., Grand Marais: Theft of a truckload of wood from an alley.
11:47 a.m., Grand Marais: A moose hunter who was camping in the area reported hearing many shots fired on Sag Lake the night before, after sunset. A game warden was advised.
2:51 p.m., Grand Marais: Fifthdegree assault reported at the school. A student, 14, pushed a teacher.
3:56 p.m., Grand Marais: A deputy was flagged down to assist with a student “flipping out” on the school bus. The student was not obeying or listening to the bus driver.
6:09 p.m., Grand Portage: Customs requested a deputy for assistance with a Canadian man, 28, for possession of cocaine, ecstasy and marijuana at the Port.
8:03 p.m., Hovland: Barking dog complaint.
Friday, Oct. 9
9:06 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of an injured deer on the highway at the bridge at Cascade River.
11:02 a.m., Grand Portage: Assault.
12:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller requested a deputy to speak with about defamation of character/slander committed by his neighbor. The caller said the neighbor is posting stuff about him on the Internet.
1:16 p.m., Hovland: Complaint about three Ontario vehicles speeding and passing unsafely. Referred to State Patrol.
Saturday, Oct. 10
2:27 a.m., Tofte: Voice mail with threats received.
8:53 a.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle roll-over south of Cascade. Both occupants were transported to the hospital.
9:07 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a vehicle way into the ditch near Trail Center. The driver apparently swerved to miss a moose, and suffered facial cuts and busted out teeth.
9:20 a.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle pulled from the ditch on County Road 8.
9:21 a.m., Grand Portage: Pick-up truck rollover on the north side of Mount Josephine. No injuries. A minivan hit the rocks in the same area about an hour later, no injuries.
1:16 p.m., Schroeder: Vehicle rollover near Signal Hill Drive. Minor injuries.
1:34 p.m., Grand Marais: Car in the ditch near Swamper. Tow truck called.
9:53 p.m., Grand Marais: House fire. Theresidence at 128 County Road 48 was a total loss.
Sunday, Oct. 11
8:59 a.m., Grand Marais: Resident reported that sometime overnight, someone pulled down all the lights on her deck. She believes she knows who did it.
1:20 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to search for an overdue camper in the BWCA. The paddler came out at 4:15, and was late due to windy conditions on Tuscarora Lake.
7:02 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a drunk driver on the Gunflint Trail.
