Monday, Aug. 12
10:13 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller
wanted an unwanted person
removed from his residence.
11:14 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller
said a Highway Department
dump truck was driving up the
Gunflint Trail, passing on double
yellow lines.
12:10 p.m., Grand Marais: A
set of keys was found.
2:21 p.m., Grand Marais:
ATV traffic stop on Fourth
Avenue West.
2:24 p.m., Grand Marais: A
yellow Lab was reported missing.
5:43 p.m., Grand Marais: An 11-yearold girl crashed her bike at the Rec Park.
Medical assistance requested.
9:08 p.m., Grand Portage: Kid problems
reported, with possible threats.
Tuesday, Aug. 13
2:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Suspicious
activity on South Shore Road regarding
a man who said he was checking on
driveways that may need blacktopping.
Wednesday, Aug. 14
11:09 a.m., Grand Marais: Five big black
cows reported roaming on County Road 7.
1:05 p.m., Grand Marais: Parking
complaint at the library.
4:07 p.m., Hovland: Report of a panting
dog left in a closed vehicle at Devilfish
Lake Campground.
7:13 p.m., Grand Marais: Problems with
an intoxicated person at Cascade Lodge.
10:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said
there was an unwanted person sleeping in
his bedroom.
Thursday, Aug. 15
9:04 a.m., Grand Marais: A vehicle hit
and damaged the back side of the Security
State Bank building. No known suspects.
12:15 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller from
Java Moose said she could hear screaming
coming from a vehicle headed west on
Highway 61.
3:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller wanted
someone to check on a truck loaded up
with garbage that has been parked on
Second Avenue West for a couple weeks.
4:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that there
was a dog left in a parked vehicle with
closed windows at the co-op.
6:00 p.m., Grand Marais: The Forest
Service requested an ambulance for a
19-year-old who broke his ankle on Isle
Royale and was being flown in by Beaver
1.
8:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that the
culvert on County Road 92 is washing out.
10:11 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said his
son was 45 minutes late coming home
from football practice.
Friday, Aug. 16
6:30 a.m., Grand Marais: A fawn was hit
on the highway at mile marker 120, and
the momma was hanging around by it.
11:06 a.m., Tofte: Gas drive-off of $80.20
from Holiday.
3:21 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said there
was a big ugly bird not really moving on
the sidewalk near the donut shop. It is sick
and dying, could someone remove it?
3:31 p.m., Grand Marais: Harassment
reported.
8:44 p.m., Hovland: Shooting reported at
the communications tower.
11:15 p.m., Grand Marais: Possible drunk
driver on South Broadway.
Saturday, Aug. 17
1:35 a.m., Grand Portage: Hit-and-run at
the Community Center. The crosswalk
sign was knocked down.
2:09 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller said there
was a bunch of people fighting on Upper
Road.
11:10 a.m., Grand Portage: Child custody
issue.
4:14 p.m., Grand Portage: Domestic fight
reported.
7:05 p.m., Grand Marais: Missing/lost
person reported at Seagull Lake.
8:06 p.m., Hovland: Caller said someone
put a snowmobile into Tom Lake.
9:39 p.m., Grand Portage: Noise complaint
about vehicles and yelling on Townsite/
Upper roads. Four traffic stops were
subsequently made in the area.
10:34 p.m., Lutsen: Domestic altercation at
Lutsen Resort. Caller said his wife was out
of control.
Sunday, Aug. 18
12:39 a.m., Grand Portage: A subject was
fleeing an officer on an ATV on Mile
Creek Road.
1:46 p.m., Grand Marais: A vehicle parked
on the street near the Jehovah’s Witness
Hall was backed into.
2:21 p.m., Grand Marais: Disturbance
reported at Aspen Inn. An elderly woman
was combative and screaming in the
parking lot.
9:39 p.m., Grand Marais: Suspicious
person sitting in a vehicle parked near
County Road 14.
11:13 p.m., Grand Portage: Citation
issued for small amount of marijuana in
a motor vehicle and possession of drug
paraphernalia.
10:18 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller said
someone fired off a gun in the woods on
Upper Road. There was just one shot.
10:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Possible illegal
camping on Seagull Lake Access.

Monday, Aug. 19
12:20 a.m., Grand
Portage: Report
of yelling coming
from a neighbor’s
home.
7:54 a.m., Grand
Marais: Report of a
little fawn lying in the
middle of the road near
Superior Lumber.
10:40 a.m., Grand Marais:
Theft of a rear lens assembly
from a Highway Department
vehicle, worth about $100.
12:30 p.m., Schroeder: Caller’s dog was
attacked by a rottweiler.
4:47 p.m., Grand Portage: U.S. Customs
stopped a driver with 1.3 grams of
marijuana and a hash pipe.
Tuesday, Aug. 20
12:32 a.m., Grand Marais: Report
of underage drinking at Birchwood
Apartments.
6:48 a.m., Hovland: Report of 20 or 30
dogs that were without water and that
looked really sick.
7:07 a.m., Grand Marais: A really loud pop
was heard on Eighth Avenue West, and
then the power went out. PUC notified.
10:13 a.m., Grand Marais: A guy turned
in a wallet he found at the Rec Park,
and said he took all of the money out
of it. However, he will return the cash if
someone claims the wallet.
1:29 p.m., Hovland: Report of a large
metal object on the lake side of the
highway near Naniboujou.
10:37 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said the
neighbor kids were still outside making a
lot of noise.
Wednesday, Aug. 21
1:18 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a
bonfire and party near Aspen Lodge.
5:59 a.m., Schroeder: A tree fell on the
highway at mile marker 75, and a vehicle
hit the tree.
2:05 p.m., Grand Portage: Theft reported.
A silver coin bracelet worth $160 was
missing from its box.
8:06 p.m., Grand Portage: Possible
structure fire reported on Townsite Road.
The caller said there was smoke coming
from the windows.
Thursday, Aug. 22
12:57 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint
about loud intoxicated people at a
campsite at the Rec Park.
2:45 a.m., Schroeder: U-Haul trailer in the
ditch.
7:24 a.m., Grand Marais: Harassment
reported at the Rec Park.
11:47 a.m., Grand Portage: Domestic
altercation.
3:32 p.m., Grand Marais: Downtown
business reported the theft of a $160 dress.
4:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Inquiry about
parking in front of the steps at the
Laundromat.
4:39 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft
of 10 adderall pills from an unattended
backpack.
8:40 p.m., Grand Marais: Gas drive-off
from Holiday.
Friday, Aug. 23
7:17 a.m., Grand Portage: Theft and
harassment reported.
9:50 a.m., Grand Marais: A strong sewer
smell was reported on East Fifth Street.
5:37 p.m., Hovland: Theft of two tool
boxes reported.
7:08 p.m., Grand Portage: Vehicle accident
in front of Ryden’s. One car was in the
ditch and was smoking.
Saturday, Aug. 24
2:28 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about
a group of 10-12 intoxicated people being
loud at the Rec Park beach.
10:15 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller said a
person is selling a lot of marijuana and
hash in the community.
6:38 p.m., Lutsen: Report of a broken
window caused by a golf ball. The house is
on the golf course.
Sunday, Aug. 25
1:58 a.m., Grand Portage: Report of a
downed tree across the highway on Mount
Jo.
2:10 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of an
intoxicated minor.
4:56 a.m., Grand Marais: All phone lines
in the sheriff ’s office were down; incoming
calls still worked.
8:52 a.m., Grand Marais: A tabby cat
named “Maelstrom” disappeared from a
room at Best Western.
10:22 a.m., Lutsen: Someone threw a rock
through a windshield at Eagle Ridge.
1:59 p.m., Grand Marais: A German
shepherd wearing a shock collar was
swimming down the middle of Devil
Track Lake. Someone kind of herded it
toward shore, and now it is heading east
on South Shore Drive.
2:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a lot of
gravel being stolen from piles on County
Roads 6 and 8, and also at the airport pit.
10:28 p.m., Grand Marais: Suspicious
activity reported. The caller said a group
of boys walked by heading east on Second
Street, and two minutes later two of the
boys ran the other direction.
11:29 p.m., Grand Portage: Numerous gas
drive-offs from the C-Store reported.
