Monday, Aug. 24

1:42 a.m., Grand Portage: Investigation of a suspicious vehicle that was seen parked at the far end of the marina. The vehicle was gone when a warden arrived.

4:49 a.m., Grand Marais: Barking dog complaint.

1:54 p.m., Grand Marais: MnDOT notified of a smoldering log on the guard rail near the Fall River sign.

3:53 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a vehicle with Canadian plates driving erratically on the highway near Terrace Point.

4:38 p.m., Grand Portage: A 19-year-old Deer Park, Texas, man turned himself in to Customs on a military deserter felony warrant for child pornography.

4:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Canoeist reported that while he was out on Devil Track Lake with his daughter and dog, another man began yelling and cursing because the dog jumped in the lake after a duck. The man threatened to shoot the dog because it was chasing wildlife.

6:29 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of possible property damage revealed that a vehicle’s throttle got stuck, and the vehicle went up into the yard. There were no injuries.

6:50 p.m., Grand Marais: Chimney fire reported at Birch Terrace. The cook was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

7:24 p.m., Grand Portage: Report of possible credit card fraud.

8:10 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a yellow SUV driving around the Community Center, at speeds up to 60 mph.

10:41 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a house fire on Sag Lake Trail. The structure was destroyed.

Tuesday, Aug. 25

8:05 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a black Blazer with no plates driving around Dairy Queen.

8:40 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a lost brown-colored journal somewhere in town.

10:05 a.m., Tofte: Report of a stolen dirt bike, valued at about $500. 12:13 p.m., Lutsen: Gas drive-off at Clearview. $21.49. 12:15 p.m., Lutsen: Reckless driving complaint on Honeymoon Trail.

5:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle fire extinguished by the owner at Gunflint Hills parking lot.

9:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said he heard a loud bang, and then his power went out. PUC notified.

Wednesday, Aug. 26

1:20 a.m., Grand Marais: Two callers complained about barking dogs at a kennel on Murmur Creek Road.

11:43 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a drunken man falling down in the lower parking lot of Birchwood Apartments. A deputy found that a picnic was taking place, but the man was not intoxicated.

1:25 p.m., Grand Marais: Mailbox knocked down along County Road 7.

9:42 p.m., Grand Marais: A man reported the theft of a box of fire arms from his residence, but called back later to say he found them.

Thursday, Aug. 27

5:59 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of illegal burning was determined to be unfounded.

9:10 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a large fire and flames in the northern sky. The caller called back a short time later to say it may have just been a reflection.

10:23 p.m., Grand Portage: A Hopkins woman, 38, was cited for driving after suspension, expired tabs and no proof of insurance after Customs agents noticed her acting suspicious and nervous.

10:42 p.m., Grand Portage: Complaint about a parked vehicle that was left running in the neighbor’s driveway with the music very loud for the past 25 minutes. The people left, but a deputy checked the area anyway.

Friday, Aug. 28

12:40 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported that her neighbor has been stealing items out of her house.

7:59 a.m., Grand Marais: Report that an unknown person, employed by the county to inspect septic systems, had entered a home while the owner was not there.

11:06 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported that while she was asleep, someone tried to break into her bedroom window. She saw at least two figures running away toward the road after she shouted at them. A deputy couldn’t find anybody in the area.

Saturday, Aug. 29

9:06 a.m., Grand Portage: A Thunder Bay vehicle that was parked overnight in the casino parking lot was “keyed.”

11:17 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported her ex-husband sent her a harassing e-mail.

5:37 p.m., Grand Portage: Vandalism reported at Mount Rose Church. It appeared some kids broke in and left the place full of mud and also bike tire skid marks everywhere.

6:54 p.m., Grand Portage: Ambulance requested at the lodge for a young female who suffered grease burns on her chest, neck and arms.

9:04 p.m., Hovland: Barking dog complaint near Chicago Bay.

Sunday, Aug. 30

8:23 a.m., Grand Marais: Traffic control requested for when crews remove a large tree near the courthouse.

1:38 p.m., Lutsen: Complaint about Lutsen Mountains employees riding ATVs on the road.

3:09 p.m., Tofte: Holiday reported a $25 gas drive-off. 3:30 p.m., Grand Portage: Ambulance requested for food poisoning victim.

10:41 p.m., Grand Marais: Owner reported the theft of a key that was left in the ignition of a vehicle parked at Aspen Lodge. No other property in the vehicle was missing, and it was not known who would take the key, or why.
