Friday, Aug. 7

2:03 a.m., Tofte: Report of a man standing in the creek with a bottle of Windsor under his arm, yodeling and claiming to be Jesus. He later said he is going to sacrifice himself to the cause. Deputies searched the area but could not find him.

12:26 p.m., Lutsen: Stalled RV in the east bound lane near Isak Hansen’s.

6:34 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy asked to be on the look-out for two trucks pulling boats, that were passing vehicles at an estimated 85 mph.

8:25 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested at the swimming pool to speak with a kid who was reportedly showing other kids in the locker room a bag of marijuana. The suspect was gone when the deputy arrived.

9:30 p.m., Grand Marais: A St. Paul man, 32, was arrested for DWI after he was seen driving recklessly with two children in the car, ages 2 and 4.

11:48 p.m., Tofte: A 26-year-old Oak Grove woman was cited for fifthdegree assault following a disturbance in the parking lot at AmericInn. The melee involved two women and four men; an employee was assaulted by the two females.

Saturday, Aug. 8

1:53 a.m., Tofte: Deputy requested to come and remove the caller’s sisterin law from the room because she was intoxicated, belligerent and couldn’t be quieted down. The caller said the woman needed to go to Detox.

4:21 a.m., Grand Portage: Noise complaint. The party quieted down before a deputy arrived.

9:42 a.m., Grand Portage: Aggressive road rage reported on the highway near the C-store. The suspect was driving a pickup with Grand Portage plates, and was tailgating, then gave the finger and drove off.

10:34 a.m., Grand Marais: Business reported that two guys came in acting strange and “high.”

2:12 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller wondering if anyone turned in a silver mongoose. One of her kids just threw it in the grass near Steve’s Sports the night before, and now it’s gone.

6:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a possible break-in at a cabin on Sag Lake Trail. Nothing appeared to be missing.

9:11 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of two suspicious-looking kids standing by the front entrance of the clubhouse at the golf course. Theywere waiting for a ride from their parents.

Sunday, Aug. 9

1:03 a.m., Grand Marais: Woman reported that she got separated from her boyfriend on their way back to the Shoreline from GunFlint Tavern (he thought the motel was one way, she thought the other). He returned on his own about 45 minutes later.

4:29 a.m., Grand Portage: Report of loud arguing and fighting, and underage drinking, in a group that had gathered in a cul-de-sac.

6:41 a.m., Grand Portage: Deputy assistance requested at the Pow Wow grounds with two kids who said they were stranded. They said they were from Thunder Bay, and were cold and had no way home.

1:29 p.m., Grand Marais: A search was conducted on the Arrowhead Road south of Fowl Lake Road for a man wanted on a felony warrant. The man was found and arrested; he had been four-wheeling in the area.

5:05 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported he was getting terroristic threats over the phone from a man in Las Vegas.

6:35 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a dog locked in a vehicle with the window only down about a quarterinch. A deputy spoke with the owner.

Monday, Aug. 10

5:55 a.m., Grand Marais: Super America reported a $7.31 gas drive-off. Thesuspect had also tried to get gas the night before with a credit card number on a receipt.

7:09 a.m., Grand Marais: Ambulance transported a man who was found lying on the Croftville Road to the hospital.

2:12 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that traffic was not slowing down in the work area near Hedstrom’s Mill, and cars were coming within a couple feet of the surveyors.

3:09 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of hit and run damage of a vehicle roof and luggage rack. The owner said he believes the damage was caused by a car with a canoe on top while he was staying at the Rec Park campground. Damage is estimated at $1,800.

5:41 p.m., Grand Portage: Complaint about someone with blond hair on a yellow ATV driving around too fast.

10:37 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that a vehicle hit the guard rail near the Rock Cut. The guard rail was out on the highway, and the driver was walking around but very disoriented. The ambulance took him to the hospital.

Tuesday, Aug. 11

10:54 a.m., Grand Portage: Reported theft of 14 Loritab tablets from a residence.

1:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Mental health issue investigation. A woman came into the Law Enforcement Center with a complaint of being assaulted and robbed; and said someone came into her home, emptied her hydrogen peroxide bottle and refilled it with water.

4:56 p.m., Tofte: Report of a motorcycle that has been parked at Birch Grove school for several weeks. A message was left for the owner.

8:29 p.m., Schroeder: Report of smoke on the back side of one of the piles at Tac Harbor. The company said sometimes it’s dust and sometimes it’s small fires, but they’ll check it out and take care of it.

8:52 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a lot of smoke and a garbage or chemical smell near the intersection of Eighth Avenue West and Second Street. The caller said the air was also kind of pinkish. A deputy determined that there was a recreational fire in the area, and some of the odor may also have been coming from fires at the campground.

Wednesday, Aug. 12

7:36 a.m., Grand Portage: Man reported that his son and a friend were robbed and threatened the day before with a knife and 2-by-4 by five individuals.

11:25 a.m., Grand Marais: Wallet found on the highway near Subway. Theowner was contacted.

7:38 p.m., Grand Marais: A woman was advised to quiet down after her neighbor called to report loud screaming and yelling that had been going on for about half an hour.

11:52 p.m., Grand Portage: Report that a man was walking up and down Eliza Road barking and howling, getting all the neighborhood dogs worked up. Thecaller said it was the third night in a row this has been done. A deputy and game warden responded, but couldn’t find the man.

Thursday, Aug. 13

9:28 a.m., Grand Marais: Report that a stray dog ran across the highway toward Angry Trout, almost causing an accident. The dog was described as a chunky chihuahua, blond colored.

9:53 a.m., Grand Marais: A disabled vehicle was blocking the eastbound lane of the Gunflint Trail. A tow truck was called.

11:01 a.m., Grand Portage: Ryden’s reported a $51.34 gas drive-off.

11:09 a.m., Grand Marais: Two calls alleging terroristic threats were received. Each caller said the other had threatened him.

6:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Woman reported that an unknown man on a bicycle stopped at the Community Center and asked her son if he wanted to go for a bike ride tomorrow.

9:04 p.m., Grand Portage: 911 call from a crying woman. The husband said, “Who did you call?” and got on the phone and said everything was okay. A deputy visited the residence and in fact everything was okay.

10:06 p.m., Schroeder: Deputies stopped a woman who was seen driving all over the road, crossing the center line a dozen times. The vehicle was stopped on County Road 34, and it was determined the woman was having contact lens issues. After further investigation it was learned that she had been drinking, but was below the limit. She was given a ride home to Hovland.

10:50 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputies called to Eliza Road, where an argument was taking place after a man took his wife’s car keys because she had been drinking and wanted to leave.

Friday, Aug. 14

1:07 a.m., Grand Marais: Investigation of strong smoke smell on Old Ski Hill Road. Nothing found.

9:02 a.m., Grand Marais: A marijuana grinder and a set of keys were found on County Road 44.

9:08 a.m., Schroeder: Report of squatters at a house on Gunderson Lane. Theowner said they were kind of weird and should be checked out.

3:44 p.m., Schroeder: A windshield was damaged by flying rocks thrown up by a speeding dump truck.

6:21 p.m., Grand Marais: A cat was struck and injured on County Road 7, and needed to be put down.

9:26 p.m., Grand Marais: A vehicle fire was reported on the Gunflint Trail, just south of Clearwater Road.

Saturday, Aug. 15

12:14 a.m., Grand Marais: Noise complaint on Bearskin Lake Road.

1:10 a.m., Grand Marais: Noise complaint from the Rec Park. A group of about 75 campers had already been warned twice earlier in the evening.

2:05 a.m., Grand Marais: A deputy saw four adults at the bar inside Howl ‘N Wolf. When they saw him, they all ran into the back room out of sight. There were two vehicles parked at the side of the building.

3:36 a.m., Schroeder: Ambulance requested on Cramer Road for a person who may have alcohol poisoning. The person refused transport.

6:30 p.m., Lutsen: The fire department extinguished a vehicle fire near Cascade Lodge.

7:34 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a black lab running loose near the garbage cans at Gofer Cabins.

Sunday, Aug. 16

12:56 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of six bottles of liquor stolen from Windigo, valued at $100.

5:44 p.m., Grand Marais: A 21-yearold New Hampshire woman was cited for stealing a men’s room sign from Trail Center.

6:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to “sort things out” after a person was pushed. Both persons involved were intoxicated.

7:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Motorist assisted with a flattire. Theperson also reported the theft of a tarp valued at $60 from his van at Brule Lake.
