Monday, Jan. 16

7:50 a.m., Grand Marais: A possible butt dial call was
received. It sounded like a cell phone in a pocket.
7:54 a.m., Grand Marais: Citation issued for a school bus
stop arm violation.
7:58 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a campfire that was
burning all night and appears to be spreading on Birch Lake
Road. The caller, who was on the other side of the lake, said
no one lives there.
8:54 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said he found his brother’s
stolen snowmobile at the Spruce Glen.
2:28 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported several aggressive
calls telling her she won a bunch of money, and all she has to
do is send them a $100 gift card and then she’ll get $15,000.
The caller said she knows it’s a scam because she already
learned her lesson the hard way a few years ago. Another
time, they called and said they were the FBI. The dispatcher
gave the woman the number for the fraud hotline and told
her to call the phone company to have the numbers blocked.
6:16 p.m., Grand Marais: Speed warning issued.
9:51 p.m., Grand Marais: Lake County requested assistance
with locating a woman who was wanted for questioning.
10:46 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said he was concerned
about his teenage son who was a runaway for about a week,
possibly doing drugs. He admitted he would probably not
pass a drug test and would rather kill himself than go to
treatment.

Tuesday, Jan. 17

1:02 p.m., Grand Marais: Neglect investigation.
3:31 p.m., Tofte: Commercial alarm investigation.
4:18 p.m., Lutsen: Speeding citation issued.
6:16 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said she can hear noises
from her upstairs apartment, which is not rented out right
now. She was home alone with her baby and did not want to
go up to check.
6:50 p.m., Grand Marais: Written warnings for speeding
issued.

Wednesday, Jan. 18

4:43 a.m., Grand Portage: Burglar alarm at the Community
Center.
6:30 a.m., Tofte: Commercial burglar alarm determined to be
false. Someone was making deliveries.
12:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that County Road 8 is
getting icy.
2:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Dog found on Devil Track Road.
4:25 p.m., Grand Portage: Casino security asked if a deputy
wanted to check out a vehicle that was left in their parking
lot by guests who checked out after a two-week stay. They
thought it was suspicious.
10:14 p.m., Lutsen: Grand Marais man, 21, arrested for DWI.

Thursday, Jan. 19

5:01 a.m., Grand Portage: Power outage at Ryden’s.
6:28 a.m., Grand Marais: The city Street Department was
notified of a downed tree at the intersection of Third Avenue
West and Fourth Street.
3:25 p.m., Grand Marais: A deputy reported that he was in
Crookston and was hit by another vehicle, pushing him into
a pole and possibly totaling the van.
9:01 p.m., Tofte: Smoke alarm at Tofte Homestead was
determined to be false.
Friday, Jan. 20

8:58 a.m., Tofte: A person cooking breakfast set off the fire
alarm.
9:26 a.m., Grand Marais: Speeding citation issued.
1:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said the door at the dentist
office is unlocked and no one is there.
8:50 p.m., Grand Marais: Barking dog complaint at Go-Fer
Cabins.
10:50 p.m., Grand Marais: Injured deer on the highway near
County Road 14.

Saturday, Jan. 21

12:23 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested at a residence
to investigate noises that were heard outside, and then
footprints were discovered that led to the back window.
2:23 a.m., Grand Portage: Hit-and-run reported in the
casino parking lot.
4:38 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said he lost a key ring with
six keys on it after he left it on his bumper and drove into
town.

Sunday, Jan. 22

3:05 a.m., Grand Portage: Deputy was asked to check on a
possibly suicidal man who claimed on Facebook that he took
a bottle of ibuprofen.
9:06 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said MnDOT’s plow
destroyed her mailbox again. Upon further examination, the
caller said it appeared someone else did it, and that they are
possibly being targeted by someone.
12:52 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of vandalism (green spray
paint) to county road signs on Fall River Road.
3:17 p.m., Grand Marais: Thunder Bay Human Services
contacted the sheriff ’s office regarding a child protection
issue in Grand Portage involving a man and four girls who
live with him.
4:19 p.m., Lutsen: Report of two dogs running around the
highway between Lockport and Arrowhead Electric.
10:41 p.m., Grand Marais: Harassing text messages reported.
