Monday, Jan. 9
8:03 a.m., Grand Marais:
Parking complaint.
9:08 a.m., Grand Portage:
Deputy requested to assist
with two Quebec men
who were stopped with
8 grams of marijuana,
paraphernalia and 50-plus
unmarked pills which
they were trying to
identify (the men said
they are Tylenol).
11:45 a.m., Grand Marais:
Speeding citation issued.
1:08 p.m., Hovland: Dead deer removed from the highway
near the town hall.
3:06 p.m., Lutsen: Ambulance requested at the ski hill for a
63-year-old man with a head injury.
3:49 p.m., Grand Marais: School bus stop arm violation
reported.
Tuesday, Jan. 10
7:24 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that he could not see
the Maple Hill tower lights and wondered if there is fog this
morning. A deputy went to check on it.
3:38 p.m., Grand Marais: Phone outage at Gunflint Pines.
3:57 p.m., Grand Portage: Customs requested deputy
assistance at the border with a Quebec man, 60, who was
stopped with 7 pounds of marijuana, 40 grams of hash and
paraphernalia.
Wednesday, Jan. 11
8:19 a.m., Grand Marais: A citation was issued for no driver’s
license in possession at the high school.
10:41 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said there was a white shorthair husky-type dog in her yard.
10:44 a.m., Lutsen: Speeding citation issued.
3:03 p.m., Grand Marais: A tow truck was needed to pull
the FedEx truck from the ditch at Gunflint Trail and County
Road 92.
3:53 p.m., Grand Marais: Two-vehicle accident in front of the
courthouse. No injuries reported.
4:46 p.m., Grand Marais: A member of the high school crosscountry ski team was taken to the hospital to be checked after
he blacked out for a bit.
4:48 p.m., Grand Marais: The school bus went in the ditch at
Wesley Lane-Devil Track Road, and six students were taken
home in a school van. There were no injuries reported.
Thursday, Jan. 12
1:03 a.m., Grand Marais: Citation issued for driving after
revocation.
8:37 a.m., Grand Marais: A deputy helped a motorist get her
vehicle started.
10:45 a.m., Grand Portage: Drug investigation.
4:32 p.m., Grand Portage: False fire alarm at Head Start.
6:40 p.m., Tofte: Report of a missing sailboat and 20-foot
trailer from a storage unit. The owner said he was unable to
determine if anything else was missing. The boat was valued
at $1,000; the trailer at $600.
Friday, Jan. 13
3:03 a.m., Lutsen: Caller said he heard a loud car outside,
looked out and saw someone walking around the driveway
and looking into parked vehicles. He then drove away.
1:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Drug investigation.
1:42 p.m., Grand Marais: A deputy cited a driver for driving
after revocation, and confiscated 11 800-mg prescription
ibuprofen pills.
5:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck and injured at mile
marker 107.
9:23 p.m., Lutsen: Citation issued for speeding.
Saturday, Jan. 14
1:23 a.m., Lutsen: Report that a man rolled an ATV on one
of the ski runs and suffered a pelvis and head injury. The
ambulance was requested.
5:11 a.m., Lutsen: Vehicle went off the road at Caps Trail and
South Caps Trail. There were no injuries reported.
6:44 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller asked that the Highway
Department plow the Gunflint Trail because the lines were
not visible, and vehicles were driving in the middle of the
road.
9:31 a.m., Lutsen: Ambulance called to the ski hill for a
19-year-old man with a back injury.
4:16 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that an inmate in a holding
cell stabbed himself three or four times with a pencil, leaving
about a half-inch blood trail.
Sunday, Jan. 15
12:22 a.m., Lutsen: Deputies were out with three people
who were found with a small amount of marijuana at Papa
Charlie’s.
1:36 a.m., Tofte: Citation issued for underage DWI and
speeding.
5:16 a.m., Grand Marais: Loud music complaint. The caller
said it was possibly the band from the Gunflint Tavern.
10:56 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said there was a van with
four flat tires in the parking lot between Hungry Jack and
West Bearskin Lake for a couple of days.
8:26 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported the sewer alarm was
going off.
11:17 p.m., Lutsen: Driver arrested for DWI.
