Tuesday, Oct. 25
9:53 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assistance requested with an
evacuation drill at the school.
10:51 a.m., Grand Portage: Harassment by phone reported.
11:21 a.m., Grand Marais: California man, 66, cited for no seat
belt.
2:40 p.m., Grand Portage: Gas drive-off of $65 from the
Trading Post.
4:55 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of a mountain bike,
valued at $400, from the North House campus.
10:28 p.m., Grand Marais: Burglar alarm activated at Security
State Bank. The building was checked and found to be okay.
Wednesday, Oct. 26
1:05 p.m., Hovland: Grand Portage woman, 42, cited for no
proof of insurance.
1:45 p.m., Grand Portage: Thunder Bay woman cited for
speeding.
6:20 p.m., Grand Marais: A man was taken to detox after he
called to ask if someone could help him get out of the woods.
He was at the North Advanced Loop and Pincushion Mountain
Loop intersection, and said he was not prepared to be out in
the dark. Search & Rescue were also paged.
7:55 p.m., Grand Marais: A deputy responded to the GunFlint
Tavern after a loud alarm was heard in the area. All was quiet
upon investigation.
Thursday, Oct. 27
11:45 a.m., Hovland: Caller said two wrenches were missing
from his toolbox, and he suspects he knows who took them.
3:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Collector plates were found on the
side of the highway, and the owner was contacted.
7:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called to check on a vacant
house after a neighbor said he just heard the garage door slam.
Everything was found to be secure.
Friday, Oct. 28
11:05 p.m., Grand Portage: A car was found on its roof just off
Upper Road, and nobody was around. A passenger was found
at his residence; a short time later the ambulance was called
for the driver, who was unconscious in the ditch. Both were
transported by ambulance to the hospital.
Saturday, Oct. 29
7:03 a.m., Tofte: Deer struck at mile marker 85. The car was
still driveable; the deer ran into the woods.
7:04 a.m., Grand Marais: Tow truck called for a vehicle rollover
into the ditch on the Gunflint Trail, just north of Pincushion.
9:18 a.m., Grand Marais: Two vehicles rolled over into the
ditch near Four Corners due to frosty roads. No medical
transports or citations were given.
11:33 a.m., Lutsen: Caller complained about an oversize load
truck that was driving recklessly, northbound from Lutsen. The
side of the cab said “Kansas something,” but a trooper could
not locate it.
5:25 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a wolf with its front paw
stuck in a culvert on Bally Creek Road. Game warden notified.
8:11 p.m., Tofte: Dead bear in the middle of the Caribou Trail.
Game warden notified.
11:10 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called to investigate a smoky
smell near the Trading Post. It was believed a compressor
may have been making the smell, and the area will be checked
throughout the night.
Sunday, Oct. 30
9:45 a.m., Grand Portage: Report of vehicle tracks in several
driveways along the highway, apparently made the night
before. No one saw or heard the vehicle, and none of the
properties seemed to have been disturbed.
3:24 p.m., Tofte: Two-vehicle accident on the highway in front
of Holiday. There were no injuries reported.
6:20 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller said that his son, 15, had been
threatened and kicked out of the Community Center. The
suspect allegedly said he was going "to whoop his ass," and
someone else threw something at the boy, the caller said. It was
determined he was kicked out for his behavior, and no threats
were made against him.
Monday, Oct. 31
7:29 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a dead wolf in the middle
of the highway near the east entrance to Cascade Beach Road.
2:23 p.m., Grand Marais: Local business reported that a
middle-aged woman has been going to stores along the shore,
trying to return items without a receipt. It is believed the
woman is stealing the items. She is driving an older black
Chevy Lumina.
4:30 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a suspicious person
camping on the caller’s neighbor’s property, possibly hunting
because gunshots have been heard. A deputy spoke with the
man, who was renting a cabin on Fall River Road.
Tuesday, Nov. 1
6:09 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller said a woman has been
driving around high in a blue Ford Taurus. A deputy could not
locate the vehicle.
6:14 p.m., Tofte: A person staying at AmericInn said he had
several tools stolen out of his truck.
Wednesday, Nov. 2
1:07 a.m., Grand Portage: A Brooklyn Park woman, 23, was
arrested for fifth-degree domestic assault and obstruction of
the legal process, and taken to detox.
4:25 a.m., Grand Portage: Complaint about a loud four-wheeler
that has been driving up and down Townsite Road for about 45
minutes.
4:29 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a group of kids
harassing neighbors.
Thursday, Nov. 3
8:18 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of some large PVC-type pipes
on the side of the highway.
10:52 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said someone shot a paintball
gun at his garage and snowmobile trailer, and wondered if
anyone else has reported anything similar.
6:02 p.m., Grand Marais: A man was taken to the hospital
after his wife requested that he be removed from the residence
because he was depressed and she did not want him there.
