Tuesday, Oct. 18
2:49 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller said a woman has been calling him
nonstop and hanging up, and that she is driving around intoxicated.
The caller wanted to know how many times someone has to call before
something gets done, and said if it continues he will go up and assault
her.
10:24 a.m., Grand Portage: Three or four bags of garbage were found
on Mount Jo, and some boxes with names and addresses on them.
11:09 a.m., Tofte: A vehicle was seen in the ditch off the Tofte
Homestead Road. No one was around it, and the vehicle had expired
tabs.
11:42 a.m., Grand Portage: A counterfeit Canadian $20 bill was
received at the casino.
12:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said he is being harassed by someone
driving a black car which he keeps seeing, and who keeps pulling out
in front of him.
1:37 p.m., Grand Marais: Criminal sexual conduct investigation.
10:21 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a suspicious truck parked on the
caller’s neighbor’s property.
Wednesday, Oct. 19
1:05 p.m., Grand Marais: An older chocolate lab dragging a leash was
seen running across the library lawn.
3:56 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said his credit card was charged $105
for chef shoes he ordered online in June, but has not received.
5:13 p.m., Grand Marais: A logging truck was stopped in Schroeder
after it was seen near Ski Hill Road. It lost two rear tires on its trailer
and was sending up sparks and making a lot of noise.
Thursday, Oct. 20
6:00 a.m., Lutsen: Caller saw a white pigeon-type bird with three bands
on its legs hanging around the area. It appears to be blind in one eye.
7:52 a.m., Grand Marais: The fire department, First Responders and
ambulance were sent to West Highway 61 and County Road 13 for a
vehicle that was smoking.
7:20 p.m., Grand Portage: A deputy was called to the casino to speak
with a woman who was either intoxicated or mentally unstable. She
was taken to the hospital for an evaluation and to speak with Human
Services, and released. She refused any assistance.
8:20 p.m., Grand Marais: A dead fawn was removed from the highway
near the Blue Moose.
Friday, Oct. 21
8:29 a.m., Grand Marais: A deputy was called to Holiday, where a
woman was sitting on the bench outside the store acting strangely and
having a heck of a conversation with herself. A deputy spoke with her,
and she moved on.
10:33 a.m., Hovland: Caller said his 17-foot jumper cables are missing,
and he believes he knows who took them. The suspect is often taking
things from his place and has a key to his (caller’s) home and many
others in the county. He is a low-life scum, the caller said. A deputy
located the cables but the caller was not convinced they are the same
ones.
2:34 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said someone has been messing with
the pumpkins he set out near South Broadway; four pumpkins valued
at $20 each had been stolen. He called back later and said that whoever
took the pumpkins called him and is coming to pay for them.
2:43 p.m., Grand Marais: Game warden notified that two wolves were
caught in traps in the Pike Lake area.
3:27 p.m., Tofte: Caller reported that his wallet was missing from a
vehicle that had been left at Cooter’s for repairs. The wallet was later
found in Duluth. The caller then determined that he had left the wallet
on another vehicle which his wife drove to Duluth, and it probably
stayed on that vehicle until she got to Duluth and then slid off. Oops!
7:28 p.m., Tofte: Gas drive-off of $39.02.
8:02 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that while driving near the
Catholic church, someone threw a pumpkin at his vehicle. He was not
sure if it was a whole pumpkin or just pieces, and it didn’t look like any
damage was done to the car, as far as he can see in the dark. He advised
that there were a bunch of kids at the Community Center for some
kind of pumpkin carving event, and it probably originated there.
9:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a very strong chemical smell in
the area of Second and Third avenues west and Highway 61, and even
downtown. It smelled very bad, almost skunklike, but chemical. A
deputy also smelled it very strongly in the area of Fourth Avenue West
and Fourth Street. It could not be determined what it was or where it
came from, but the same bad smell was also detected in mid-August.
10:23 p.m., Grand Portage: Loud music complaint.
11:17 p.m., Grand Portage: Report of an intoxicated man walking up
Townsite Road, hollering and barking like a dog. He hid in a ditch
when a vehicle drove by, and the caller said he threw up in the road. A
deputy, trooper and Border Patrol agent responded.
Saturday, Oct. 22
2:33 a.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck and killed by a vehicle near
Superior Lumber.
10:22 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said there was an injured deer on the
side of the highway near Cascade Beach Road, and a wolf was trying
to eat it. The caller wondered if someone could at least put the animal
down, and was told it was a part of life. A trooper was notified.
4:04 p.m., Lutsen: Report of a missing Xoom Tablet and other equipment. 5:22 p.m., Lutsen: Caller reported explosions and loud gunshots at the
gravel pit just past Caribou Creek. A man was seen in the area with
a two-liter Sprite bottle with cardboard cylinders inside, cut on both
ends. A deputy responded and found a lot of fireworks debris, but was
unable to find the suspect.
8:09 p.m., Grand Marais: Barking dog complaint.
Sunday, Oct. 23
1:16 a.m., Grand Marais: Grand Portage man, 26, cited for driving after
revocation.
1:55 p.m., Grand Marais: Search & Rescue, Gunflint Fire Department
and ambulance were called to look for a missing woman who was last
seen at Hungry Jack Lodge at 10:30 a.m. She was found at 3:27 p.m.
and checked out by the ambulance, but no transport was needed.
8:08 p.m., Grand Marais: A man was discovered sleeping in a parked
vehicle in the Cornerstone Church parking lot. He was allowed to sleep
there for the night, as he had plenty of blankets and said he would be
warm enough. A deputy took his keys and returned them in the morning. Monday, Oct. 24
8:08 a.m., Grand Marais: Female reported an assault.
6:26 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that an injured coyote was limping
down the lake side of the highway near County Road 7 and Cascade.
Trooper notified.
11:21 p.m., Grand Marais: A citation was issued to a female juvenile for
underage drinking and driving. She was released to her mother.
