Monday, Oct. 10
4:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Barking dog complaint.
5:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Narcotics investigation.
6:45 p.m., Tofte: Employer called to report that one of his employees
returned from his break and appeared to be under the influence of
something, and was sent home. He may be driving around under the
influence.
Tuesday, Oct. 11
11:54 a.m., Schroeder: Coast Guard requested help in checking out a
report of a possible oil slick on Lake Superior seen Oct. 9. Deputies
were not in a good location, and the request was referred to a game
warden.
3:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Grand Marais man, 41, cited for driving after
revocation.
5:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller asked a deputy to speak with her son
after he came to her apartment building and was pounding on the door
and swearing because she wouldn’t answer.
6:54 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that there is a whitish colored
car driving around the campground very slowly, shining flashlights into
campers, for the second night. A deputy responded and spoke with the
suspect. It was a misunderstanding.
7:33 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported that a lady pulled into her
yard screaming, “you are done!” and pointing at her granddaughter. It
was not known who the lady is.
Wednesday, Oct. 12
9:21 a.m., Grand Marais: The school requested that a deputy speak with
a student because he had a pocket knife in his backpack at school. He
said he found it, but when questioned he became secretive.
3:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Child abuse investigation.
5:05 p.m., Hovland: Possible harassment complaint.
Thursday, Oct. 13
10:40 a.m., Grand Portage: Possible burglary of a residence reported.
The caller said she saw lights on in the house the previous evening
(the owner is out of town). Today, she noticed a broken window with a
pillow stuffed in it.
12:06 p.m., Tofte: Deer struck and killed by a vehicle a mile south of
Tofte.
12:45 p.m., Tofte: Report of a suspicious person near Gull Harbor.
2:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said there was a dog tied up outside
without shelter, but the dog was put inside before the deputy arrived.
10:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller complained about Devil Track
Road, which he described as “completely undriveable” because of the
washboard conditions.
Friday, Oct. 14
6:25 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a suspicious person wandering
around Third Avenue West. The man was also seen sitting on the steps
near the Art Colony.
8:30 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller said she let her ex-boyfriend come
over last night to pick up the rest of his things, and he stole $200 out of
her wallet.
9:51 a.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck and injured about 15 miles east of
town.
2:08 p.m., Tofte: Caller said somebody keyed his car (lines down both
sidesandaUshapeonthehood)whileitwasparkedovernighton
Tofte Homestead Road.
3:45 p.m., Grand Marais: A mountain bike was found in the ditch on
County Road 7.
4:41 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported damage done to her residence
and personal property when she was gone. The suspect burned two of
her jackets, cut up 12 pairs of jeans and other clothes, poured shampoo,
nail polish and chew spit on her bed, and took her purse. A deputy
responded.
Saturday, Oct. 15
12:45 a.m., Grand Portage: Deputy called to the lodge for possible
trespassing and safe house violations.
7:19 a.m., Grand Marais: Vandalism reported on County Road 7.
Mailboxes were damaged, and some flower pots were scattered.
8:09 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a loose chocolate lab on
Second Avenue West.
12:13 p.m., Grand Portage: Report of someone shooting out their
window behind Ryden’s.
2:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a man lying in the ditch bleeding
with a gun about two or three miles past hedstrom Lumber. The man
had fallen and hit his head. An ambulance took him to the hospital.
6:27 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller requested that a deputy check the
welfare of two young girls standing outside the 4-H building.
8:10 p.m., Grand Portage: Harassing phone calls reported.
9:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a propane gas smell coming from a
camper at the campground. The caller said she would turn the gas off
and call Como in the morning.
Sunday, Oct. 16
12:59 a.m., Grand Marais: Portage, Wis., man, 29, arrested for DUI and
booked into jail.
12:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck and killed near Trail Side
Cabins.
8:01 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported that his girlfriend beat him
up.
Monday, Oct. 17
7:31 a.m., Hovland: Deputy checked a residence after a burglar alarm
was set off.
7:44 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called to assist a wheelchair-bound
resident who was unable to get into the basement to change a blown
fuse.
7:46 a.m., Grand Portage: Coast Guard notified after a caller reported
that a boat with three or four people on it appeared to be struggling.
8:28 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said someone is stalking him, and he
also believes he is being gassed by his neighbors. He said he can’t sleep
at night because he has to keep all the windows open. A deputy spoke
with him.
8:35 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller said that while she was shopping in
Duluth on Saturday, someone broke into her house and stole a couple
of knives from her kitchen. It was learned that three boys came into the
house while she was away, and one of the boys admitted to the theft.
10:08 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller complained about hunters who were
shooting on adjacent property, and expressed concern that there were
kids outside.
2:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Dog struck and injured by a vehicle on Third
Avenue West.
5:39 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy requested to remove an unwanted
person from a residence.
11:12 p.m., Grand Marais: Driver arrested for DUI and booked into jail.
