Monday, Oct. 3
8:21 a.m., Grand Marais: Members of the Highway
Department crew found a pop-up camper that was
obviously abandoned at the airport pit near the burn
pile. They requested that a deputy check the plates.
12:33 p.m., Grand Marais: A vehicle went off the road,
damaging its front end, on Two Island Road just off
Devil Track Road. A tow truck was requested.
11:03 p.m., Grand Marais: A friendly black lab was
running around the Holiday parking lot, and is now in
the store. A deputy took it to the pound.
Tuesday, Oct. 4
7:41 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a lost pistol on
Cascade Tower Road. The owner said he had it tied to
his four-wheeler and realized it had slipped off. He did
not have the serial number.
9:46 a.m., Colvill: A deer was struck by two vehicles
and caused front-end damage to both. There were no
injuries, but the deer was dead in the southbound lane.
11:20 a.m., Grand Marais: A black cordless phone was
found on the sidewalk in front of the school.
3:04 p.m., Schroeder: Report of large tire debris on the
highway near Satellite’s, creating a road hazard.
4:54 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that a bike,
valued at $150, was stolen from her yard at Birchwood
Apartments and she believed the neighbor kids may be
out riding it but they’re not supposed to. A short time
later, the kids dropped the bike off on the driveway.
6:17 p.m., Lutsen: Report of a smoldering bog fire
at Island Circle Drive in Clara Lake. Lutsen Fire
Department and the Forest Service were sent to check
it out.
6:30 p.m., Grand Portage: Ambulance requested to
transport a 27-year-old woman to the hospital who just
took a mouthful of sleeping pills.
8:10 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a great deal of
smoke coming from behind GunFlint Tavern. It was
only a small fire in a ring behind the building.
9:55 p.m., Lutsen: A Lutsen woman, 21, was cited for
open bottle and possession of drug paraphernalia after
her car was found flipped over in the ditch on Highway
61 near Mink Ranch Road.
Wednesday, Oct. 5
8:13 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assistance was
requested at the Rec Park to capture a black lab
that was staying in the pound, but escaped when an
Arrowhead Animal Rescue volunteer was walking it.
The dog was captured.
9:26 a.m., Lutsen: Citation issued to a 30-year-old
driver for no seat belt and no proof of insurance.
9:47 a.m., Grand Marais: A deputy responded to an
alarm at Harbor Light, where the front door was found
unlocked.
11:58 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said he left his
12-gauge shotgun on the side of the road at Lima
Grade, and when he went back for it, someone had
picked it up.
8:35 p.m., Grand Portage: A bear was struck by a
vehicle on Mile Creek Road near the monument. The
bear ran off into the woods toward the lake, leaving a
small blood trail. The occupants of the vehicle followed
the trail with a flashlight, but couldn’t find the animal.
A game warden was notified.
10:21 p.m., Lutsen: A deputy responded to a report of
a dead deer in the traffic lane on the highway between
Isak Hansen’s and Lutsen. It was a bear cub, not a deer,
and it was removed from the road.
11:43 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller said she and a friend
were walking on the shoulder of the road near Picnic
Bay Estates and were almost run over by a four-wheeler
zooming past without headlights. A deputy who was on
patrol was advised.
Thursday, Oct. 6
7:28 a.m., Grand Portage: A caller reported a suspicious
vehicle parked at the Trading Post with Wisconsin
plates and a bunch of young guys inside. Nobody
recognizes the vehicle or the occupants, and the caller
said it may be related to the bunch of gang members
who were kicked out a while back. The vehicle was not
on file.
10:01 a.m., Lutsen: Lutsen Mountains reported
vandalism to a change machine in the main chalet. It
was unknown when the vandalism occurred.
12:48 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy called to pick up a
couple counterfeit bills from the casino.
1:23 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported a possible
break-in of a residence on Tenth Avenue West after the
back door was found wide open. Nothing appeared to
be missing.
5:18 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported a break-in
at his home. The intruder entered through a basement
window. Some clothing and a pocket knife were
missing, the house was messed up, and there was
writing on the wall. The caller said he has some
suspects.
6:02 p.m., Grand Marais: Threatening phone calls and
text messages reported.
Friday, Oct. 7
8:01 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to speak
with the caller about some threats made at the school
yesterday.
4:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Power outage at Seagull Lake
Road and Tamarack Trail.
7:52 p.m., Grand Marais: Buck’s called to report an
off-road diesel drive-off of 130 gallons. The truck
was found parked in front of Coldwell Banker, and it
looked like the driver went inside the building with
a flashlight. A deputy spoke with the driver, and he
returned to pay for the fuel.
11:05 p.m., Grand Marais: Noise complaint about a
group of hunters camping on the beach across from
Kelly’s Hill. The caller said they’ve been there a week,
and have been noisy every night with a loud ATV and
fireworks. A deputy stayed there for about 45 minutes,
and all was quiet.
Saturday, Oct. 8
1:19 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller said he was walking
on Margaret’s Road and some teenagers riding in the
back of a small white pickup threw something at him,
but missed. The vehicle has been seen driving around
the area all night, but the caller was not sure whose it
is.
3:06 a.m., Grand Portage: Report of trespassers on
Casino Drive. The two people involved left on separate
vehicles.
3:44 a.m., Grand Portage: The casino reported an
altercation in the parking lot.
3:55 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported scraping,
thumping and knocking noises against her house a few
times since midnight. She said it has been going on for
years and believes someone is doing it to harass her.
It goes on mostly at night but sometimes during the
day. She requested extra patrols to check for suspicious
activity.
11:54 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said she saw two boys
she believed were smoking inside the hockey rink.
5:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Some hikers said they put
out a small fire on the Superior Hiking Trail between
Crystal Creek and a group camp site. The fire was out,
they said, but there was still some smoldering west of
Silver Creek camp site. The DNR was notified.
Sunday, Oct. 9
12:25 a.m., Lutsen: Complaint about a neighbor
lighting off fireworks on County Road 35. No one was
at the property when a deputy investigated.
6:45 p.m., Grand Marais: A black lab with a red collar
was running loose in and out of traffic near 3rd Avenue
West and 2nd Street. A deputy spoke with the owner
and advised that the dog needs to be kept in a kennel
or on a leash.
