Monday, Sept. 19
7:53 a.m., Grand Marais: A DNR game warden
was contacted about an injured young gull on
the sidewalk in front of the Legion. The bird
had a fishing lure in its bill and didn’t look very
good.
8:55 a.m., Grand Marais: State Patrol notified of
a tree down over the fog line at mile marker 129.
10:54 a.m., Grand Marais: Driver reported that
some electrical parts and a 330-foot spool of
copper wire fell out of the back of his truck
sometime this morning.
3:37 p.m., Grand Marais: A wallet containing ID
and credit cards was found outside the liquor
store.
3:53 p.m., Lutsen: A semi was stopped in the
middle of the traffic lane in Lutsen, and possibly
disabled. The caller said it appears as though the
truck driver slammed on the brakes due to being
too close to the vehicle in front of him, and the
load shifted and damaged the brake lines. A
trooper and deputy responded.
6:16 p.m., Lutsen: Caller said her neighbor has
been shooting off a shotgun for about an hour,
and he is only about 150 feet from her house. A
deputy responded.
Tuesday, Sept. 20
1:42 a.m., Grand Portage: Complaint that
a woman who has an invalid license and is
possibly intoxicated is driving around Grand
Portage.
7:19 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said a moose
was tangled in the horse fence. A game warden
was called.
3:39 p.m., Grand Marais: A business owner
requested a deputy to remove an unwanted
intoxicated man.
11:09 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said there was
a soaking wet female sleeping in the lobby of a
motel, and she may be intoxicated. A short time
later her husband collected her from the lobby
and took her back to their room, and the deputy
was cancelled. About 10 minutes later, the
caller called back and said the woman was now
sleeping out in the hallway, and her husband
was swearing at him. A deputy responded and
quieted down the situation.
Wednesday, Sept. 21
9:11 a.m., Grand Marais: Ambulance called
to the school for a 12-year-old boy who was
involved in an altercation, and was having
trouble breathing and swallowing.
9:57 a.m., Grand Marais: A bear cub was stuck
in the Dumpster at Way of the Wilderness, and
the owners were unsure of how to get it out. The
mama bear wasn’t in sight. The game warden
was notified.
2:23 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint of ongoing
speeding problems on County Road 8 in the
construction area.
4:25 p.m., Grand Marais: The Landing reported
that a customer ate and left without paying his
$33 bill.
6:43 p.m., Grand Marais: The PUC was
contacted about an elderly couple at the Rec
Park who were without power.
Thursday, Sept. 22
2:10 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to
assist the Forest Service with an aggressive man
who was encountered on the snowmobile trail
near Moose Pond Drive.
6:26 p.m., Schroeder: A truck pulling a tall load
hit the bridge over the highway at Tac Harbor.
The load shifted and is almost off the truck,
and traffic was down to one lane. The load, an
excavator, needed to be reloaded and debris was
cleared off the highway. The railroad company
was contacted to check the safety of the bridge.
8:14 p.m., Grand Portage: A Border Patrol
officer came upon a one-vehicle accident on
Mineral Center Road. There was no one around.
11:18 p.m., Grand Portage: A woman called just
to talk, and she sounded intoxicated. She does
not know where she is or a phone number, all
she knows is that she is in Grand Portage in a
green room. She said that she has relatives in the
area. She said she might go for a walk in her bare
feet. The dispatcher advised her she should stay
where she is, and notified a deputy. She was not
located.
Friday, Sept. 23
9:01 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said he lost
his wallet the night before somewhere near
Dockside.

1:16 p.m., Grand Portage: A female was taken
to detox after she was seen wandering around,
dazed and confused, near the apartment
buildings on Picnic Bay. She tried to get into
two apartments and a passing vehicle; she was
wearing gray checkered pajama pants, a green
shirt and was barefoot. She was also cited for
possession of drug paraphernalia.
4:37 p.m., Grand Marais: Gas drive-off of $46.52
from Super America.
4:41 p.m., Grand Marais: Ambulance called to
assist a man who fell off a ladder.
Saturday, Sept. 24
2:07 a.m., Grand Marais: Driver arrested for
DUI.
11:06 a.m., Grand Marais: Power outage at a
residence on Humphrey Circle. PUC notified.
1:59 p.m., Lutsen: Caller reported that Mastec,
a subcontractor for REA, cut his sewer lines. A
lineman was advised.
2:30 p.m., Schroeder: Caller reported that a
young male and female were trespassing on his
property, and they gave him a hard time about
leaving.
9:24 p.m., Grand Portage: Ambulance called to
a residence where a girl fell down half a flight of
stairs.
Sunday, Sept. 25
1:54 a.m., Grand Portage: Deputy called to the
casino to assist with an intoxicated woman who
was in the lobby, and her boyfriend did not want
her back in the room. When a deputy arrived,
the woman was in the room with her boyfriend.
6:33 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to
remove a man who was sleeping in the public
restroom on Broadway. He was gone when a
deputy arrived.
3:55 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called to assist
with removal of two young male trespassers
from private property who were picking
thomsonite rocks from the beach. The property
owner finally convinced them to leave, and the
deputy was cancelled.
5:04 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy called to
the border to cite a Canadian man, 58, for
possession of marijuana (16.7 grams) in a motor
vehicle, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
5:05 p.m., Grand Marais: A deputy was called
and spoke to a group of kids who were lying on
Fifth Street in front of Birchwood Apartments
pretending to be hurt.
5:19 p.m., Hovland: Deputy called to investigate
handgun shots fired on Camp 20 Road.
7:14 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said her
husband is harassing her at work, and he is
drunk at her house. She would like him removed
from the house, and would like the phone calls
to stop.
