Monday, Aug. 15
12:10 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a dog locked in a vehicle with
all the windows rolled up in front of the Angry Trout.
12:45 p.m., Lutsen: Caller said that while surfing the Internet, she
came across some child pornography.
2:23 p.m., Lutsen: Report of a vehicle with the windows smashed
out in the ditch near mile marker 99.
3:43 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said that while his truck
was parked overnight Aug. 6 at the Rec Park ball field, it was
vandalized with writing in marker and scratches from pop cans
that appeared to be gang signs. However, there was no evidence to
support the claim.
11:00 p.m., Grand Marais, Ontario woman, 34, cited for speeding.
11:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Suspicious activity by a group of
teenagers reported at an unoccupied residence on Seventh Avenue
East. Deputies responded and found the house secure, but it
appeared there may have been drinking going on around back
because beer and a blue Cook County soccer bag were found. The
teenagers were not found.
Tuesday, Aug. 16
3:40 a.m., Grand Portage: Loud music complaint.
6:13 a.m., Grand Portage: Ambulance called to assist a man who
was seen lying in the ditch across from the national monument
parking lot near the maintenance building. He was transported to
the hospital with an ankle injury.
8:37 a.m., Grand Marais: A deputy was asked to check on a black
briefcase that was left outside the commissioners’ meeting room at
the courthouse. There was nothing suspicious inside.
11:45 a.m., Grand Marais: Two calls were received about a male
and female having a verbal argument in a black Jeep, which
was driving recklessly around town. A deputy spoke with those
involved.
12:51 p.m., Tofte: Gas drive-off of $16.03 p.m. from Holiday.
2:30 p.m., Grand Marais: State Patrol notified of a large RV pulling
a trailer that was driving erratically southbound from Grand
Marais.
2:48 p.m., Lutsen: Report that the Hall Road sign off Highway 61
had disappeared.
7:10 p.m., Grand Portage: A 22-year-old woman was arrested at
the border for possession of drugs and paraphernalia.
Wednesday, Aug. 17
9:30 a.m., Tofte: Reported theft of a pump and hose from the back
of a truck parked behind AmericInn. The missing items are valued
at $1,150.
5:12 p.m., Grand Marais: A wallet was found on the beach and
turned in.
8:31 p.m., Tofte: Report of a man who appeared to be drunk and
just left Bluefin driving a black vehicle. According to the caller, the
man said, “Don’t mind me, I’m just going to take a pee over here.”
His female companion then said, “No, you can’t do that.” They
then left, going south.
9:08 p.m., Lutsen: Harassing phone calls reported.
Thursday, Aug. 18
12:59 a.m., Grand Marais: A deputy warned a suspicious person
who was seen walking near a house on West Fifth Avenue.
8:33 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about county trucks jakebraking as they haul gravel from the pit on Maple Hill Drive. The
Highway Department was advised of the complaint.
9:35 a.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of six gallons of gas from
a boat at Seagull River landing.
12:36 p.m., Grand Portage: Ambulance transported a 20-year-old
woman to the hospital after she was stung by two bees.
1:39 p.m., Grand Portage: Ambulance transported a 59-year-old
man to the hospital who said he had walking pneumonia, and was
just turned back from Canada.
4:11 p.m., Grand Marais: Woman reported that she went into the
pharmacy and when she came out, her vehicle was missing. Her
husband stayed in it, but she believes he wouldn’t have driven
away because he has a serious brain injury.
7:56 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assisted a family who locked
their keys in their vehicle at Northern Light Lake trailhead.
Friday, Aug. 19
1:02 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said two females broke the door
and he found them in the kitchen, cooking food. They were still
there after he called the sheriff and he chased them off, but they
took the food they had cooked with them.
3:17 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said his neighbor was screaming
and swearing at his kids, and throwing things in the house. A
deputy found all to be quiet, and the man said they were wrapping
it up for the night.
1:12 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy called to the border after a
stolen gun was found on a man with an 11-year-old daughter.
3:58 p.m., Lutsen: Report of a two-vehicle accident at Temperance
River. There were no injuries, but both vehicles were disabled.
Saturday, Aug. 20
12:43 a.m., Grand Marais: Noise complaint about a group at the
Rec Park.
12:10 p.m., Grand Marais: A black lab was running loose at the
Angry trout. A deputy took the dog to its owner.
Sunday, Aug. 21
12:10 a.m., Grand Marais: Grand Marais man, 68, arrested for
DWI.
6:12 a.m., Grand Portage: Deputy called to remove an unwanted
person from a residence.
9:11 a.m., Hovland: Caller reported that the power boxes on the
outside of her house made a “pop” noise last night, and now the
wires are burned. REA notified.
1:28 p.m., Grand Marais: A group of eight people left Gunflint
Outfitters without paying their $600 bill. They were found by a
deputy and paid the bill.
9:47 p.m., Grand Marais: Parking complaint/question regarding
trailers on Clearwater Lake Road.
10:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy asked to check on suspicious
activity at a cabin on Gunflint Lake Road. The caller said there
should be nobody there, but he noticed a candle burning inside
and was afraid there was a break-in.
