Monday, Aug. 1
1:40 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint
about several people in the area of 10th
Avenue West and 3rd Street who are
talking loudly, swearing and waking
up the neighborhood for the past 20
minutes. Deputies responded, and
several of the people took off into
the woods. Some were located and
taken to their residences. A Coon
Rapids juvenile was cited for underage
consumption and taken back to the Rec
Park, where he was staying with his
family.
11:09 a.m., Colvill: A trooper was
notified of a van that was parked on the
side of the highway, partially blocking a
driveway.
12:32 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy
assistance requested at the border
after a Canadian citizen took a wrong
turn and was found with 4.5 grams of
marijuana.
2:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller wanted
to know what she could do about a man
who was selling a used RV. She gave
him $1,000 as a down payment, then
changed her mind, and the man won’t
return the money. The caller said she
didn’t know the man’s name, but he
was leaving soon for Alaska. She was
advised it was a civil issue.
2:10 p.m., Grand Marais: Gas driveoff of $55 from Holiday. State patrol
notified.
3:33 p.m., Grand Marais: A crashed
and abandoned vehicle was found by a
game warden just south of McFarland
Lake. The owner said he was waiting for
it to be towed, and his nephew wrecked
it because he was inexperienced driving
on gravel roads.
7:47 p.m., Grand Marais: Search &
Rescue was paged after a 9-year-old boy
was reported missing on the hiking trail
at Pincushion. The child was eventually
located safe and sound by another
group of hikers.
9:57 p.m., Schroeder: Lake County
called to report a “dine and dash” that
happened at the Trestle Inn. A couple
with a baby ate and left without paying
and drove north on the Cramer Road
in a green Subaru. The plate wasn’t on
file. Local deputies were asked to be on
the lookout.
Tuesday, Aug. 2
11:47 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of
an older black lab running down the
middle of the highway near Java Moose,
heading east.
12:38 p.m., Hovland: Caller said
somebody ransacked his vehicle and
house, and a lawn mower was stolen.
12:48 p.m., Hovland: Complaint about
vehicles parked on the shoulder of the
highway near the Judge Magney park
entrance, creating a traffic hazard.
3:21 p.m., Tofte: Deputies responded to
a vehicle rollover on the Honeymoon
Trail west of Poplar River. There were
minor injuries reported. A 28-year-old
Duluth woman was cited for driving
after revocation and careless driving.
10:23 p.m., Hovland: After receiving
a call about dogs barking nonstop
for three days, a deputy checked the
residence and found three dogs with no
food or water. The door was locked and
there was nobody around. A message
was left on the answering machine.
10:52 p.m., Grand Portage: A juvenile
was cited for underage consumption
after being seen outside the church
carrying a large bottle of Captain
Morgan and refusing to leave. A bottle
was broken in the middle of Stevens
Road, and was hit by a passing car.
Wednesday, Aug. 3
12:15 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint
about a noisy group of international
workers on West Second Street. A
deputy quieted down the party.
3:07 a.m., Grand Marais: A large tree
was down across the highway near
Cascade, blocking a lane of traffic.
MnDOT was called, but a trucker with
a saw stopped and cleared most of it
before MnDOT’s arrival.
5:06 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller asked
that a deputy come to her residence
and remove two people who have been
drinking.
12:49 p.m., Grand Marais: A deputy
spoke with the owners of a truck who
left their dog in the parked vehicle. A
caller said the dog was barking, and the
windows were up.
4:13 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller
requested information about revoking
the driver’s license of an elderly person.
She was advised to speak with Social
Services and a doctor.
6:33 p.m., Tofte: Holiday reported a
$55.19 gas drive-off. Border Patrol
located the vehicle at Little Manitou
River.
8:20 p.m., Lutsen: Report of two
children throwing rocks and shooting a
BB gun at a rental cabin on Blackpoint
Blvd.
Thursday, Aug. 4
8:57 a.m., Tofte: Report of a car
upside-down in Plouff Creek with its
windshield wipers going and no one
around.
9:23 a.m., Grand Portage: A laptop
that was reported stolen from the RTC
was found in Duluth. There are two
suspects.
12:15 p.m., Lutsen: A vehicle parked at
Eagle Ridge was found with a window
smashed out.
8:19 p.m., Grand Portage: Complaint
about an intoxicated driver spinning
his wheels on the highway in front of
Ryden’s Store, creating a lot of black
smoke.
9:40 p.m., Grand Marais: Two
minors, 19, were cited for underage
consumption at the American Legion.
Friday, Aug. 5
12:03 a.m., Grand Marais: Noise
complaint about the loud music from
Harbor Park. The music was actually
coming from the Raven.
3:06 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint
about a camper parked on First Street
West near 4th Avenue, and the people
inside are being loud and cussing. The
owner was advised he had two hours to
move it, or it would be towed.
4:41 a.m., Grand Marais: Lake County
requested mutual aid assistance in
transporting a man in the BWCA who
hit himself in the shin with an axe.
9:50 a.m., Grand Marais: Vandalism
of a vehicle reported. The mirror was
broken and there were scratches; the
vehicle was parked on the highway near
the Rec Park. There was also vandalism
reported to the sign at Chez Jude.
10:33 a.m., Grand Marais: Parking
complaint in the city lot on Broadway.
11:12 a.m., Grand Portage: Reported
theft of lortabs.
12:02 p.m., Grand Marais: An elderly
man called and said he couldn’t find his
vehicle. It was located in Boulder Park.
12:07 p.m., Grand Marais: A cell phone
in a pouch was reported lost near Birch
Terrace. The pouch was found near
IGA, but the cash, ID and phone were
gone.
3:23 p.m., Grand Marais: Parking
complaint at Boulder Park.
4:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of
a pack of small vicious dogs chasing
people around Creechville. The caller
said one person was almost bitten.
5:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy
requested to pick up three stranded
teenagers who were up the Gunflint
Trail and had no way of getting back to
town.
9:34 p.m., Grand Marais: Two minors,
age 20, were cited for possession of
alcohol.
10:13 p.m., Grand Marais: Two
juveniles were cited for illegal
consumption and possession of a
small amount of marijuana and
paraphernalia.
10:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint
about a loud group of teenagers in the
parking lot on the Point.
Saturday, Aug. 6
2:10 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller
complained about a loud party on
Fourth Avenue West. When she asked
them to quiet down, they made rude
comments. A deputy spoke with them
and was told the party would break up.
When the deputy left, the group toasted
the Sheriff ’s Department and the party
continued. The deputy returned to
speak with them again.
2:22 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint
about fireworks at the Passion Pit. A
deputy spoke with the individuals, and
they said they were done for the night.
A short time later, they called back
to ask for directions to the hospital
because somebody was burned with
the fireworks and needed medical
attention.
5:17 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller
reported that his ex-fiancee was under
the influence of something and was
banging on his door wanting to be
let in; he just wanted to be left alone.
The woman, 20, was cited for illegal
consumption and given a ride home.
7:17 a.m., Colvill: Caller said a wolf
took her dog this morning on County
Road 14.
7:51 a.m., Schroeder: Vehicle in the
ditch at Temperance River Road. The
driver was rubbing his head, but told
the caller he didn’t need help and would
flag down a truck to pull him out.
9:52 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller
reported that her 13-year-old daughter
worked at a lemonade stand downtown
the previous day, and the owner now
refuses to pay her. The caller also said
she believes the owner may be on some
kind of drugs.
10:41 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said
he dropped three $100 bills in front of
the liquor store when he got out of his
car, and wondered if anyone had found
them. In fact, someone did turn in one
of the bills later that evening.
10:55 a.m., Tofte: Caller said she had
a trail camera set up at her cabin on
Leveaux Ridge Road, and on three
separate occasions vehicles have been
on her property. She also had a picture
of a female looking directly into the
camera.
5:40 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy
requested for a disturbance at the
bouncy house. Juveniles were removed.
5:48 p.m., Hovland: An ATV blew up
and was in flames on a private road off
McFarland Lake. The fire department
responded.
6:07 p.m., Grand Marais: Sexual assault
reported.
9:18 p.m., Tofte: Caller said she thinks
her camera bag was stolen out of her
room at Cliff Dweller.
9:40 p.m., Grand Marais: The Lions
Club reported that a vendor was
walking around town during the
fireworks and selling balloons, glowin the-dark things, and things that go
bang, without a permit.
Sunday, Aug. 7
12:25 a.m., Grand Marais: Loud music
complaint about the Raven.
8:43 a.m., Grand Marais: The PUC was
notified after it was discovered that
the storm drain cover near the Mangy
Moose had been removed.
10:20 a.m., Grand Marais: A bag with
several bottles of prescription drugs
was found in the middle of the road
near North Shore Dairy. The owner was
contacted.
11:32 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller said
another man threatened to shoot him,
and wanted charges filed.
1:15 p.m., Grand Marais: Parking
complaint about the alley behind Dairy
Queen being blocked.
9:36 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of two
people walking on Devil Track Road
who were arguing and appeared to be
drunk.
10:31 p.m., Grand Marais: Loud music
complaint about the Gunflint Tavern.
A deputy responded and shut down the
music.
