Monday, July 18
12:21 a.m., Tofte:
Ambulance requested for
a bee sting victim. The
woman, however, did not
require transport to the
hospital.
1:24 a.m., Grand Marais:
Deputies investigated an
open door at Hoglund
Photography. The owner
was called and responded.
7:04 a.m., Grand Marais: An
infant was struck by a vehicle in the
Rec Park campground. The child was
taken to the hospital by the father,
but the injuries were fatal.
10:21 a.m., Grand Portage: Burglar
alarm at the state park. A game
warden responded.
7:47 p.m., Grand Marais: Assistance
was requested from Search & Rescue
to find two men who went missing
from the Superior Hiking Trail for
over eight hours. They returned a
short time later.
10:14 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a
strange man who stopped and talked
to some kids who were making a fire
on the beach. The caller said he was
saying odd things that made them
nervous, and he seemed to have some
mental issues. Deputies spoke with
Customs, who said the man was on
a long circle tour of the lake and was
staying at churches along the way.

Tuesday, July 19
9:53 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of
a guy near Holiday who had rocks
in his hands, and was harassing and
threatening the caller.
1:02 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller was
concerned about a large husky-type
dog that was left in a parked vehicle
near Holiday. A deputy checked and
found that the windows were open
and the dog appeared to be okay.
2:38 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said
she went into the ditch off County
Road 7 last night, and will have the
vehicle towed today.
3:17 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller asked
that a deputy speak with the young
driver of an ATV who was driving
illegally on Highway 61 near Bautch’s.
The caller said he attempted to speak
with the driver, but was ignored.
3:31 p.m., Tofte: A guest at Bluefin
reported that an iPhone was stolen
from his unlocked vehicle.
4:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of
a small dog in a parked vehicle near
Angry Trout that looked like it was
suffering from the heat. A deputy
responded, but the vehicle was gone.
6:50 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a
stolen vehicle from Gunnar’s.
7:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Burglary
of a Colvill residence reported. The
caller said the door was kicked in and
a flat-screen TV was missing.

Wednesday, July 20
5:33 a.m., Grand Marais: Highway
Department notified of flooding
on County Road 8. Water was also
running over East Highway 61 near
mile marker 119.
7:13 a.m., Grand Marais: Electrical
fire reported on Bunn Trail following
a nearby lightning strike. It was
discovered that a tree was struck,
causing electrical problems, but no
fire was found.
8:44 a.m., Grand Marais: Theft of
tools from a garage reported.
9:06 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy
called to Nordic Electric to remove
a man who refused to leave; he was
unhappy about being asked to leave
the Farmers Market. The man left
before the deputy arrived.
12:12 p.m., Grand Marais: Game
warden requested at West Fifth
Avenue and Highway 61 regarding an
erratic driver and an accident.
12:46 p.m., Grand Marais: Report
of flooding in the city parking lot
on Broadway. The caller said little
kids were swimming in the lot, and
other kids were driving cars through
making waves for the little ones. The
caller asked that a deputy stop them
and put up barricades.

Thursday, July 21
10:41 a.m., Grand Portage: Reported
theft of two coolers full of beer from
the back of a truck at a campsite on
Marina Road.
4:01 p.m., Lutsen: Coast Guard
notified of a small sailboat that
appeared to be floundering off
Cascade Beach.
5:03 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller
reported that his wallet was missing,
and he may have been pick-pocketed
by a couple he gave directions to. The
wallet contained $125 cash, credit
cards and IDs.

Friday, July 22
10:12 a.m., Grand Marais: Attempted
burglary reported.
12:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of
a lost outboard motor between Tofte
Holiday and Devil Track Road.
6:17 p.m., Grand Marais: Chicago
man, 39, cited for unlawful passing.

Saturday, July 23
11:08 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller
complained that two travel trailers
were put on his property without
permission, and he wants them
removed. A deputy spoke with the
parties, and it was agreed that the
trailers would be removed.
12:45 p.m., Lutsen: Gas drive-off of
$71.57 reported.
3:48 p.m., Grand Portage: Report of
an intoxicated man walking in the
middle of the road near the stone
bridge.
8:45 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint
about ATV riders drag racing on
Hungry Jack Road. A deputy spoke
with the riders.
9:05 p.m., Colvill: Skunk complaint
referred to game warden.
9:55 p.m., Grand Marais: Fireworks
complaint on Croftville Road.
11:08 p.m., Grand Marais: A woman
was taken to detox after she called
and requested a deputy because she
and her fiancé weren’t getting along.

Sunday, July 24
1:43 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of
five guys in the American Legion
parking lot ripping up bags of dirt.
They then walked away, and one guy
carried off a bag of dirt. A deputy
checked the area, and only one bag of
dirt was opened.
10:02 a.m., Hovland: Caller reported
that 20-25 guns were stolen from his
property while he was in the hospital,
and maybe some other items as well.
The man’s stepson said he (father)
is dealing with dementia, and has
thought the guns were stolen a few
times before, and they were not. The
son said he would check the house
to determine if anything was actually
missing.
3:56 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported
theft of a mountain bike from behind
the Gunflint Tavern.
6:39 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller said
her father removed pieces from the
engine of her vehicle so that it could
not be driven.
7:26 p.m., Grand Marais: Alarm
activated at Johnson’s Foods.
8:52 p.m., Hovland: Duluth man, 61,
arrested for terroristic threats after
he allegedly threatened to kill his
ex-wife.

Monday, July 25
12:46 a.m., Grand Portage: Man
reported that his wallet was stolen
after he set it on a table at the casino
and turned his back. It contained
$200 cash, driver’s license and ATM
card. Surveillance footage showed the
theft, and a suspect was cited.

3:34 a.m., Grand Marais: Several 911
calls received about a man near the
Rec Park ball field screaming and
moaning. Deputies located the man,
who had been seen riding his bike in
the park earlier and appeared to be
intoxicated. He said he crashed his
bicycle and hurt his toe, but refused
medical assistance. During the
interaction, he was issued a citation
for possession of drug paraphernalia
and a small amount of marijuana.
11:52 a.m., Lutsen: Deputy called
to settle a dispute over “neighbor
trouble.”
12:00 p.m., Tofte: Gas drive-off of
$70.62. State patrol notified.
4:54 p.m., Colvill: Caller said he
heard gunshots coming from his
neighbor’s property, and then BBs fell
onto his deck. The neighbor said he
was just shooting to scare off a bear,
and apologized for the stray BBs.

Tuesday, July 26
3:55 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller
reported the theft of 20 lortabs from
his lodge room, and said he believes
he knows who took them.
9:23 a.m., Schroeder: Report of a
stolen wallet.
11:55 a.m., Grand Marais: Residential
burglary reported. The door was
broken, and at least two TVs were
missing.
1:30 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said
she found two boys sleeping in the
Laundromat at 5:30 this morning.
They left when they saw her.
1:50 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of
ATVs in the horse park.
5:59 p.m., Grand Marais: The PUC
was notified of an overflow alarm at
the treatment plant.

Wednesday, July 27
3:00 p.m., Tofte: Identity theft
investigation.
8:34 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said
someone stole his wallet and cell
phone out of his vehicle, which was
parked in town.

Thursday, July 28
8:17 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy
called to speak with an unruly group
at the Poplar River campgrounds.
Callers said members of the group are
running all through the campground,
going through people’s coolers at
night, stole all the toilet paper from
the outhouse, and defecated on the
walls and yelled, “Now go poop in the
woods.” There was also a strong smell
of marijuana. After being warned by
the deputy not to disturb the other
groups, another call was received,
and a deputy returned and told them
to leave.
9:38 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said
someone has been camping at the
Passion Pit on Old Shore Road for
the last few days.
12:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller
reported that her neighbor was
beating the heck out of her kids in
the next apartment, as she could hear
yelling and crying. A deputy spoke
with the woman, and determined
the boys were arguing and fighting
amongst themselves — there was no
undue discipline taking place.
3:13 p.m., Grand Marais: A
contracted mail vehicle was backed
into in a downtown parking lot.
5:14 p.m., Grand Portage: The
Trading Post reported that a
shoplifter had taken a can of air
duster.
7:52 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller
reported that some kids stole her
son’s clothes and ran onto Artist
Point. A deputy responded and got
the stolen clothes back.
7:55 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy
called to remove an intoxicated
woman from a business. She was
gone when a deputy arrived.
7:56 p.m., Grand Marais: A man was
taken to the hospital after he was in a
fight in the Legion parking lot.
9:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller asked
a deputy what to do after his boss
accused him of theft. The man said
he was accused of stealing $200-$300
worth of tools and replacing them
with old tools, and his employer was
withholding his last check.

10:03 p.m., Lutsen: Fireworks
complaint near Ward Lake Road.
11:43 p.m., Grand Marais: Burglar
alarm set off at Subway. Nothing
appeared to be out of order.

Friday, July 29
12:17 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint
about loud kids at Birchwood
Apartments.
1:29 a.m., Tofte: Complaint about
a loud group at Temperance River
campground.
9:10 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller
reported the theft of pills, an i-Pod
and make-up from her purse, which
was left in her car.
9:30 p.m., Grand Marais: Party
threatened to stab someone.

Saturday, July 30
1:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of
a missing person from a group on
Brule Lake. The person showed up a
short time later.
6:25 p.m., Schroeder: A large truck
knocked over a power pole on Cramer
Road. REA and Qwest were notified.
6:41 p.m., Grand Marais: Ambulance
called for a 14-year-old girl who
fractured her ankle on a trampoline.

Sunday, July 31
9:50 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller
reported that when he was in the
Holiday parking lot, someone gave him
the finger and yelled at him, but he
could not hear what the guy was saying.
4:03 p.m., Grand Portage: A Thunder
Bay man, 75, was cited for disorderly
conduct after he was escorted out of the
casino by a deputy, and then urinated
in the parking lot. The man was
reported because he was being loud
and obnoxious, and refusing to leave.
5:44 p.m., Grand Marais: Grand
Marais man, 40, cited for violation
of the barking dog ordinance after
complaints were received about
four dogs left in a parked truck near
Dockside for about an hour.
8:16 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of
gunshots, possibly coming from the
Iron Lake campground. A deputy
could not locate the source.
