Monday, July 13

8:24 a.m., Grand Marais: Grand Marais man, 52, cited for no proof of insurance.

9:27 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to speak with a woman who was just threatened by her husband.

12:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Assistance requested in locating a canoeist who was due to come out of the BWCA at Sag or Seagull Lake landing the day before.

3:04 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a big truck parked on a driveway, leaking gasoline. The caller said there is a bucket underneath to catch the gas, but the fumes are terrible and he is afraid of a fire or explosion. A deputy advised the owner to drain the tank.

3:37 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a group of motorcyclists traveling unsafely near mile marker 95, speeding and recklessly passing. A trooper located the group of six; three were cited and three were warned.

4:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Game warden called regarding a problem with a bold bear who stole dog food from a Gunflint Trail residence, and was also getting into unsecured garbage receptacles.

Tuesday, July 14

2:02 p.m., Grand Marais: Assistance requested to help an intoxicated person.

3:46 p.m., Grand Marais: An ATV was stopped on a forest road that is closed to ATV travel.

4:40 p.m., Grand Marais: A calf moose was struck by a vehicle on the Gunflint Trail between Pine Mountain Road and Northern Lights Trail access.

8:20 p.m., Grand Marais: Arrest made of a man charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving after suspension and other charges.

Wednesday, July 15

6:28 p.m., Grand Marais: Grand Marais man, 48, cited for driving after suspension.

6:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of three people smoking pot on First Avenue West.

7:01 p.m., Schroeder: Report of two bags of garbage in the westbound lane of the highway.

8:17 p.m., Colvill: Domestic disturbance. 9:55 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a live electric wire on the ground. PUC notified.

10:51 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported a guy is outside her hotel room door wanting to come in and get to know her better. She locked the door and turned the lights off.

Thursday, July 16

2:19 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a stolen vehicle from the Birch Terrace parking lot.

11:54 a.m., Grand Marais: Ambulance transported a man who fell and hit his head on the rocks on Artist Point. He was breathing, but in and out of consciousness.

9:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller requested to speak with an officer regarding her 15-year-old daughter receiving phone calls in the middle of the night from a man who is 20.

Friday, July 17

1:54 a.m., Grand Marais: Noise complaint.

2:27 p.m., Hovland: Trespassing complaint.

4:14 p.m., Grand Marais: One-vehicle accident at the rock cut. The female driver was transported to the hospital.

4:32 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy spoke with the driver of a vehicle who left a baby unattended in a parked car at the Community Center.

7:13 p.m., Grand Portage: Motorist assist.

Saturday, July 18

11:12 p.m., Grand Marais: DNR notified of a baby bald eagle on the ground near a fishhouse. There were no nests nearby.

11:48 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy spoke with a group of teens who a store owner said had shoplifted. Two girls said they didn’t take anything, and the store clerk couldn’t find anything missing.

2:04 p.m., Grand Marais: Forest Service reported a single-vehicle accident in front of the seagull Guard Station. All four occupants were taken to the hospital.

5:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Ambulance requested by Lake County for mutual aid following a vehicle accident near the county line.

7:10 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of suspicious vehicles heading north on the Gunflint Trail. They were members of X-Winos motorcycle club, riding with colors.

8:46 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a number of motorcycles going 70 mph in a 40 mph zone near Ugly Baby.

Sunday, July 19

7:09 a.m., Hovland: Game warden requested at Judge Magney State Park to assist with campers gathering firewood on park grounds.

2:56 p.m., Grand Portage: Loud party complaint.

4:45 p.m., Lutsen: Single vehicle rollover near the Ski Hill Road. No injuries.

8:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Domestic assault reported.

Monday, July 20

6:23 a.m., Grand Marais: PUC linemen responded to a power outage on Grace Drive.

10:26 a.m., Grand Marais: Vandalism reported at two of the Rec Park bathhouses.

10:57 a.m., Grand Marais: Minor accident in the hospital parking lot. An elderly driver ran into a parked trailer where there wasn’t enough room for her to go through.

11:01 a.m., Grand Marais: Motorist warned for reckless driving.

12:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Theft of money reported from a wallet in the console of a truck parked on Wesley Lane. Thetruck was not locked.

1:57 p.m., Tofte: Reported theft of a Highway 61 sign at the bottom of the Caribou Trail. The post was left in place, as was a smaller sign that says “north.”

2:20 p.m., Grand Marais: Parking complaint on West Fourth.

2:30 p.m., Grand Portage: Complaint about someone shooting a .22 in the woods.

4:25 p.m., Grand Portage: Assault reported at the Community Center.

Tuesday, July 21

2:32 a.m., Tofte: AmericInn reported receiving a “weird” phone call. A young boy, who sounded about 10 years old, asked if he and his sister could stay the night at the hotel because their mother kicked them out of the house and they have nowhere to go and it’s raining. The dispatcher was unable to find out where they were, and could hear someone in the background telling the boy to be quiet and not tell where they were.

11:27 a.m., Hovland: Ambulance called to assist a 57-year-old man who slipped on a dock and broke his leg.

12:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that an ex-wife is abusive toward a child.

2:15 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to settle a dispute between two business partners.

2:54 p.m., Grand Marais: Ambulance requested to assist a 16-year-old hiker who fell two days earlier and injured his back. The group was at Cascade River and Pike Lake Road.

5:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a lost outboard motor on Devil Track Lake. A salvage diver could not find it, and the owner said he believes two local residents may have dragged the lake during the night and found it.

7:12 p.m., Grand Marais: Investigation into threats made.

10:40 p.m., Grand Marais: Grand Marais woman, 31, arrested for fourth-degree DWI.

Wednesday, July 22

12:42 a.m., Grand Marais: Woman reported that someone had knocked on her door, but the security light never came on. This has happened in the past, she said, but it has never been reported.

3:57 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a semi driving recklessly through town.

5:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Hearing aid found in a store.

7:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Drug investigation.

7:02 p.m., Grand Marais: Fire alarms were going off at Harbor View Apartments. It was a fire drill.

Thursday, July 23

8:31 a.m., Grand Portage: Deputy called to pick up a marine boot and dog tag that were found floating in Lake Superior.

10:33 a.m., Grand Portage: Theft of medication reported.

8:56 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy requested at the Port of Entry after a juvenile was stopped with a small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Friday, July 24 4:18 p.m., Lutsen: Lost camera reported.

4:38 p.m., Grand Marais: Highway Department contacted to repair a “really large” pothole on the Gunflint Trail just south of Trout Lake Road.

10:45 p.m., Grand Marais: Ramsey man, 24, cited for unattended fire.

11:39 p.m., Grand Marais: Lost wallet reported.

Saturday, July 25

12:23 p.m., Grand Marais: A Dekalb, Ill., man, 20, was arrested following a short stand-off near Gunflint Lake. He was wanted for burglary in Wisconsin, and it was believed he was heading toward Canada.

1:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that someone pried open the top of a Rubbermaid shed and scattered all the tools that were inside. However, it appeared nothing was stolen.

2:22 p.m., Grand Marais: Parking complaint on Coast Guard Point.

5:05 p.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck and injured on County Road 7 near County Road 6. There was minor damage to the vehicle, and the deer walked off into the woods.

8:55 p.m., Grand Marais: Vehicle accident in the Best Western parking lot, resulting in about $2,000 worth of damage.

9:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Mini van stuck on loose gravel in the parking lot near the beach.

Sunday, July 26

12:47 a.m., Grand Marais: Two vehicles with juveniles were stopped on Pine Mountain Road. The youths headed into the woods, leaving a couple bottles of liquor and keys in the vehicle.

12:57 a.m., Grand Portage: Report of four-wheelers gunning engines and running around the caller’s yard.

1:27 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a man lying on the fog line near the intersection of Highway 61 and the east end of County Road 14. The man was gone when the caller turned around and went back.

1:52 a.m., Hovland: Reported break-in of a home. Thecaller said she could hear someone trying to come in a window, but when a deputy arrived, no one was around.

5:15 p.m., Hovland: Female caller reported being locked out of her cabin after a verbal dispute. She chose to stay with the man after he returned. They were both calm and cooperative.

5:33 p.m., Grand Marais: A 9-year-old boy was found on the trail at Cascade River State Park. He was separated from his father.

6:04 p.m., Grand Marais: The sheriff and the FCC were notified of a possible phone fraud scheme.

9:46 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy requested because a person was threatening suicide and acting very strange. A friend took him home.

9:47 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy requested at the border after a Florida man with an outstanding warrant was stopped and arrested, and Florida said it was willing to extradite.
