of individuals in Cook County Law Enforcement briefs. When court
proceedings are complete, the Cook County News-Herald publishes a
complete accounting of names and penalties in its Matters of Record.
Monday, June 27
10:25 a.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of beer from a campsite
at the Rec Park the previous night.
12:35 p.m., Tofte: Employer complained that his workers were
smoking marijuana while on the job cleaning units.
3:29 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy assistance requested at
Harborview Apartments for eviction/removal of an unwanted
person.
4:15 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported a driver who is headed
to Duluth, after his license was revoked.
6:38 p.m., Grand Portage: Customs requested deputy assistance
to cite a Quebec man, 44, for possession of a small amount of
marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
9:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Power outage reported on Devil Track
Road. REA notified.
Tuesday, June 28
8:41 a.m., Hovland: Deer struck by a car near the Brule River.
2:17 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said a known peeping Tom has
been parking near the kayak campsite on Paradise Beach and
clearing small trails, presumably to watch people on the beach.
3:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller complained that a neighbor is
building over the property line.
3:36 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of a cooler, milk and beer
from a campsite at the Rec Park.
9:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Gas drive-off by a Centurylink pick-up
truck of $98.43 reported.
Wednesday, June 29
5:40 a.m., Grand Marais: Dead deer reported in the middle of
the northbound lane of the highway at mile marker 96. MnDOT
notified.
1:03 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that the purchaser of
her home was having work done in the home, but was not to have
access to it yet. Some of the artwork on the walls was painted over.
6:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that the door of an
outhouse on County Road 7 was hanging ajar.
6:51 p.m., Tofte: Holiday reported a gas drive-off of $27.11.
9:38 p.m., Grand Marais: Chinese currency was found on the boat
landing at Moose Pond Drive (one yuan bill and one yi jiao bill). It
was turned over to a deputy.
Thursday, June 30
12:52 a.m., Lutsen: Loud noise complaint.
9:31 a.m., Grand Marais: Credit card fraud reported.
11:48 a.m., Lutsen: Two-vehicle accident with injuries reported in
front of Last Chance. Two people were transported to the hospital.
1:54 p.m., Grand Marais: Wisconsin man, 50, cited for passing in a
no passing zone.
3:01 p.m., Grand Marais: A fairly large black and white sea bird
was lying on the rocks to the left side, just after entering the point
in Grand Marais. Game warden notified.
3:46 p.m., Grand Portage: Landlord-tenant dispute.
8:46 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller complained about illegal burning
near the clinic. A deputy checked and found no trash or garbage
being burned.
Friday, July 1
6:50 a.m., Grand Marais: Harassing phone calls reported.
10:30 a.m., Lutsen: Minnetonka man, 59, cited for speeding.
11:08 a.m., Grand Marais: New Brighton man, 33, cited for
speeding.
11:28 a.m., Tofte: Vehicle roll-over in the upper ditch of Highway
61 at Aspenwood Townhomes. Four people were taken to the
hospital.
2:40 p.m., Grand Marais: Harassing text messages reported.
4:05 p.m., Lutsen: St. Louis Park man, 73, cited for speeding.
9:35 p.m.: Power outages reported all over the county.
9:51 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that someone had been
in her house. Her purse had been gone through, and both front
and back doors were wide open. Nothing appeared to be missing.
10:25 p.m., Grand Marais: Fire alarms were going off in a
residence, believed to be caused by lightning.
11:52 p.m., Grand Marais: A vendor’s tent was blown over and the
boxes of stuff for sale tipped over. A deputy secured the tent and
merchandise, and contacted the owner.
Saturday, July 2
6:35 a.m., Grand Marais: Problem with the phone lines up the
Trail.
9:58 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that people had moved
the barricades at the Cutface wayside and were in the rest area.
11:40 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of property damage to DNR
property at the Grand Marais office. The fire awareness sign
was graffitied, and the Smokey Bear has some additional body
parts that he did not have before added with paint. There are no
suspects.
12:10 p.m., Tofte: Loud noise complaint about a rowdy group at
Crescent Lake Campground.
2:54 p.m., Hovland: Vehicle in the ditch near mile marker 132, a
possible roll-over with injuries. One person was transported to the
hospital.
5:01 p.m., Grand Marais: Coast Guard personnel accidentally set
off the burglar alarm at the Border Patrol office.
9:28 p.m., Tofte: Stolen property reported at Crescent Lake
campground.
9:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Fireworks complaint.
Sunday, July 3
5:46 a.m., Hovland: Three horses were seen running loose on
Highway 61 at mile marker 133. The owner was notified and he
retrieved them.
8:23 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported a lost or stolen
checkbook.
11:28 a.m., Schroeder: Ambulance requested for a woman who
crashed her bike on the bike trail and suffered facial injuries. A
transport was not necessary.
5:58 p.m., Tofte: Report of stolen items from Crescent Lake
campground.
10:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called to a domestic dispute
involving a father and son.
10:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Fireworks complaint at the Rec Park.
10:46 p.m., Grand Marais: Two persons were arrested: one for
DWI and the other for obstruction.
11:03 p.m., Tofte: Fireworks complaint.
