Monday, June 13
12:37 a.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a loud
party, with people yelling and whooping it up outside.
The caller said it is an annual event. A deputy spoke
with the people involved and advised them to quiet
down.
10:10 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of a metal object in
the middle of the traffic lane between mile markers
105 and 106. A trooper removed the object, which was
determined to be a piece of a chair.
11:51 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said there were
two dogs in a parked minivan near Joynes, and the
windows were barely cracked, and they were concerned
about the dogs’ welfare. A deputy checked and the
animals were okay; the windows were open sufficiently
and it was not that hot.
1:27 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of a propeller
from a boat that was parked on Third Avenue West.
2:14 p.m., Grand Marais: The Fire Department was
called to the city burn pile to assist putting out the fire,
which had crept into the trees.
3:21 p.m., Grand Marais: Backpack reported stolen
from behind Hughie’s.
3:37 p.m., Grand Marais: Vandalism reported to one of
the state grader trucks parked at the DOT garage over
the weekend. Windows and headlights were broken.
3:45 p.m., Grand Marais: City notified about the highflow alarm going off at the wastewater treatment plant.
7:46 p.m., Lutsen: Lutsen Resort reported that a woman
just broke into one of their cabins and scared the
guests. She was being held in the office, and had her
driver’s license and keys taken.
8:38 p.m., Grand Marais: Report of a wildfire on
Gaskin Lake. Forest Service notified.
Tuesday, June 14
1:40 a.m., Grand Marais: Deputy requested to remove
an unwanted person who was banging on the door
to get back in the bar, and had been there twice since
closing time.
10:23 a.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of the Lions
Club’s recycle box from the Joynes parking lot.
4:59 p.m., Colvill: Deer struck and killed on the
highway. There were no injuries to the vehicle’s
occupants.
7:21 p.m., Grand Marais: Suspicious man reported
at the clinic, trying to get into the locked doors after
hours. The man was found lying in the grass, and
requested he be checked out. A deputy assisted him to
the ER for a voluntary psych exam.
Wednesday, June 15
3:01 p.m., Hovland: Thunder Bay woman, 40, cited for
speeding.
9:25 p.m., Grand Marais: Dispatch received two
911 hang-up calls from a cell phone, and the GPS
coordinates showed the caller to be out on Lake
Superior, about a half-mile off shore from mile marker
112. Nothing could be seen from the shore, but the
Coast Guard was notified.
Thursday, June 16
10:15 a.m., Lutsen: A deputy assisted a motorist with a
flat tire.
10:59 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller said that when she
took her dog to the groomer’s, the groomer found
pellets in the fur. The owner said her neighbor would
be a suspect, but the neighbor told the deputy she
would never hurt a dog.
12:40 p.m., Grand Portage: Two Canadians were cited
for drug possession (marijuana).
1:04 p.m., Grand Portage: Report of a vehicle in the
ditch off Marina Road.
3:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called to a domestic
argument at Birchwood Apartments.
4:47 p.m., Grand Marais: Hovland man, 61, cited for
misuse of a license plate after the vehicle was reported
as stolen from Minneapolis.
6:24 p.m., Grand Marais: Recycle Center staff requested
a deputy to locate the person who parked in front of
the loading dock.
8:54 p.m., Grand Marais: Minneapolis woman cited for
no proof of insurance.
9:08 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said he lost his wallet
somewhere in the Grand Marais area.
11:12 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy called to a domestic
altercation. The female was taken to the hospital for an
evaluation.
11:19 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller said she has been
receiving threats.
Friday, June 17
10:16 a .m., Grand Portage: Deputy requested to
investigate an attempted break-in.
12:40 p.m., Lutsen: Three vehicles were in the ditch at
mile marker 96. A deputy assisted a trooper with traffic
control while the vehicles and trailers were pulled out.
2:49 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that someone drove by
the skate park and shot an air gun rifle-style at the kids,
hitting some with pellets.
4:47 p.m., Grand Portage: A former employee at the
casino was reported as trespassing when he came back
for his possessions. A deputy spoke with him, and told
him not to return.
5:30 p.m., Grand Portage: Customs detained a
Canadian citizen who was trying to export a dirt bike
into Canada that was reported as stolen from Sawyer
County, Wis. Sawyer County could not contact the
reporting party to verify ownership, so the vehicle was
released.
6:57 p.m., Grand Marais: Report that at least three gas
cans have been stolen from Sag Lake Trail.
7:46 p.m., Grand Marais: Hinsdale, Ill., man, 20, cited
for speeding.
8:28 p.m., Grand Marais: St. Paul man, 42, cited for
speeding.
9:49 p.m., Grand Marais: Minneapolis woman, 54, cited
for speeding.
10:46 p.m., Schroeder: Caller reported that a group of
people were having an illegal campfire on his property.
11:11 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller asked for someone to
check on people he could hear out in the woods, and he
was going to shoot them. A deputy determined it was a
bear out in the woods.
Saturday, June 18
4:21 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported that people
were in her house breaking things, and have been there
all night. She took her son and left the property. She
also thinks they cut her phone lines because the phone
would not work. A deputy responded and found that
the phone line was not cut, and nothing was broken in
the house.
7:04 a.m., Grand Portage: Deputy called to remove an
unwanted person from a residence.
7:03 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller said she wanted to
make a complaint against a deputy.
8:58 p.m., Grand Marais: Alarm was going off at the
pharmacy. All appeared to be secure.
1:03 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported that a person
was passed out in her back yard, then moved to her
driveway. When asked to leave, the person moved to
the middle of Townsite Road and passed out.
10:42 a.m., Grand Marais: Theft of food and beer
reported from four campsites at the Rec Park.
6:26 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said he was stuck in
his motor home in the ditch on Pike Lake Road. A tow
truck was called.
10:20 p.m., Grand Marais: A juvenile was found to have
drug paraphernalia. A deputy took him home to his
father.
10:49 p.m., Grand Portage: Caller reported that he
had one of the suspected trespassers up a tree in his
back yard. A deputy responded and found no one up
in a tree. The caller was taken to the hospital for an
evaluation, and transferred to detox.
