Monday, May 9
12:37 p.m., Grand Marais: Duluth man, 34, arrested for DWI and
refusal to test after he was stopped for driving erratically down the
Gunflint Trail.
4:42 p.m., Grand Marais: The Highway Department reported that
they just graded County Road 13, and someone on an ATV came out
and really messed up the road.
7:56 p.m., Grand Marais: A guest at the East Bay complained about
two men on the beach who were having trouble standing and
walking, were passing a bottle, and one just urinated on the beach.
Tuesday, May 10
11:30 a.m., Grand Marais: Dead deer reported on Devil Track Road.
Referred to the Highway Department.
12:52 p.m., Creechville: Caller said he had a loose dog in his yard,
bigger than a husky and almost wolf-like. A deputy responded, got
the tag number on the dog, and contacted the owner.
4:39 p.m., Grand Marais: A trooper pulled over a black Corvette after
it was seen speeding from Lutsen Resort.
9:06 p.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck on the highway. The vehicle
was still driveable.
Wednesday, May 11
10:23 a.m., Grand Marais: A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle
that was seen traveling on the wrong side of the Gunflint Trail near
the courthouse. The driver said she hasn’t driven in a long time and
doesn’t drive often. The deputy ordered an evaluation for her driving.
12:33 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a maroon car speeding
up and down Sixth Avenue. It has driven by at least three times. A
deputy checked the area, but was unable to locate the vehicle.
2:44 p.m., Grand Portage: Telephone harassment reported.
3:17 p.m., Grand Marais: Complaint about a dump truck that was
blocking the Murmur Creek Road near Pike Lake access. The owner
was contacted, and said he was working on moving the truck; there
was snow on the road and it was still soft.
4:30 p.m., Grand Marais: Domestic abuse investigation.
5:48 p.m., Grand Marais: Power outage reported on South Shore
Drive.
5:52 p.m., Grand Marais: A resident of West Second Street reported
that she just returned home, and found her door knob had been
pried off — it looked like a screwdriver had been used. Entry was not
made. There are no suspects.
7:08 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy investigated an incident in which
it was reported a 6-year-old girl had been left unattended at the
lodge. The report was determined to be unfounded after the security
tape was viewed.
11:30 p.m., Grand Portage: Threatening phone calls reported.
Thursday, May 12
10:28 a.m., Grand Marais: Bethlehem Lutheran Church requested a
funeral escort to Poplar Grove Cemetery on Friday.
11:54 a.m., Grand Marais: Fender-bender in the clinic parking lot
reported. The damage was under $1,000.
12:03 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy gave a warning to the driver of a
vehicle that was speeding back and forth on the Point.
9:29 p.m., Grand Portage: Deputy requested to check on the
condition of a man who stumbled into the Trading Post.
Friday, May 13
9:50 a.m., Grand Portage: A person from a charter bus was
inadvertently left at Ryden’s store. The bus was contacted at the
school in Grand Marais, and turned around to go back and pick up
the person.
9:58 a.m., Grand Marais: A bicycle that was parked behind the liquor
store for two or three days was picked up by a deputy and taken to
the sheriff’s office garage.
11:08 a.m., Grand Marais: Driver, 40, cited for speeding.
1:19 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported that she just returned
home, and the house stinks like cigarette smoke and no one in her
family smokes. Nothing was found to be missing.
1:40 p.m., Tofte: Welfare check requested on a man who was
camping somewhere along the Sawbill Trail, and hadn’t been heard
from in a few days. He called his wife later in the afternoon and said
he was okay.
2:23 p.m., Grand Marais: Reported theft of guns and jewelry from a
residence sometime within the last four or five months.
5:03 p.m., Grand Marais: Deputy helped a woman who got separated
from her group at Cascade Falls. The group’s van was found at the
wayside rest.
7:30 p.m., Hovland: Caller reported that a woman drives to Chicago
Bay Marketplace every day to purchase alcohol, and she has a
revoked driver’s license.
Saturday, May 14
8:28 a.m., Grand Marais: Grand Marais man, 23, arrested for
domestic assault.
8:54 a.m., Grand Marais: Report of an injured moose on the side
of the Gunflint Trail, about 13 miles up from town near Northern
Lights Lake. Game warden notified.
4:01 p.m., Lutsen: New Hope man, 47, cited for speeding.
5:55 p.m., Grand Marais: A man who drove off from Holiday without
paying for gas said it was a mistake, and called to pay by phone.
7:12 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller said two neighbor kids were
antagonizing his dog, and he was afraid the dog was going to bite
one of them.
9:18 p.m., Grand Marais: A man was taken to Miller Dwan. The ER
called to say he mentioned specific people he wanted to kill and that
he had a plan but would not say how.
10:18 p.m., Grand Marais: Trooper requested to check on two people
in all black who were sitting on the guardrail at Cascade State Park
along the highway. They were staying in the campground and were
fine, no problems.
Sunday, May 15
9:33 a.m., Grand Marais: Power outage on Gull Lake Lane.
12:21 p.m., Grand Marais: Edina man, 37, cited for speeding.
2:40 p.m., Grand Marais: Power outage on Seventh Avenue East.
4:27 p.m., Lutsen: A man who was pulled over for driving erratically
said he was tired because he had been driving for a long time.
10:20 p.m., Grand Marais: Assault reported. The caller said her house
was also trashed.
11:55 p.m., Grand Marais: Shoreview man, 23, cited for failure to
stop at a semaphore.
