Monday, May 2

7:32 a.m., Schroeder: Coal fire at
Taconite Harbor. Schroeder, Tofte
and Silver Bay fire departments, and
Tofte First Responders paged out and
responded.
11:04 a.m., Grand Marais: The clinic
requested a welfare check on a
patient who failed to show up for an
appointment. She was found to be
okay, and rescheduled the appointment
for the next day.
1:58 p.m., Lutsen: Thunder Bay man,
51, cited for speeding.
3:32 p.m., Lutsen: Coon Rapids man,
26, cited for speeding.
5:12 p.m., Grand Marais: Grand Marais
man arrested for domestic assault
following an incident at Gunnar’s.

Tuesday, May 3

7:28 a.m., Grand Marais: Dead deer
in the middle of the southbound lane
of Highway 61, just south of the west
County Road 7 intersection.
7:57 a.m., Grand Portage: Trespass
violation at the lodge.
11:49 a.m., Grand Portage: Caller
reported a speeding bronze-colored
vehicle on the Bay Road, and said it
happens almost daily.
12:08 p.m., Grand Marais: The owner
of a vehicle that was parked at Third
Avenue West and Fourth Street since
January was contacted, and said it
would be removed by the end of the
week. The tabs expired in September
2010.
2:21 p.m., Grand Marais: Harassment
reported.
4:53 p.m., Grand Marais: Loud verbal
argument reported on Third Avenue
West. A deputy spoke with both
parties.

Wednesday, May 4

8:28 a.m., Grand Portage: Trespass
violation at the casino. The man left
when security approached him.
4:11 p.m., Grand Marais: Burnsville
man, 38, cited for speeding.

Thursday, May 5

1:32 p.m., Hovland: Credit card fraud
reported.
11:53 p.m., Grand Portage: Trespasser
was in the casino again, and again left
before a deputy could speak with him.

Friday, May 6

11:10 a.m., Grand Marais: Downtown
business reported a possible shoplifter.
A deputy determined it was unfounded.
12:30 p.m., Grand Portage: The casino
called and said a letter was being issued
to ban the man who was trespassing
from their property indefinitely.
2:02 p.m., Grand Marais: Business
reported that a customer had just
shoplifted some beer. The man was
located, taken to the Law Enforcement
Center and hospital for mental health
evaluation, and then transported to
Duluth.
4:14 p.m., Grand Portage: Customs
requested assistance for a man who
possibly had mental health issues, but
was not a danger to himself or others.
5:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Deer struck
and killed on Devil Track Road.
6:42 p.m., Grand Marais: Sex offender
failure to register.
9:10 p.m., Grand Marais: Some middle
school kids who were kicked out of the
dance at the 4H building were now at
the skate park with some other kids. The
caller said the park is supposed to be
closed at dark.

Saturday, May 7

1:13 a.m., Grand Portage: Grand Portage
man, 35, stopped for DWI.
1:17 a.m., Grand Portage: Ambulance
requested for a hit-and-run on
Casino Drive involving a vehicle and
pedestrian. A 30-year-old man was
arrested for DWI and criminal vehicular
injury; a 21-year-old woman was cited
for failure to transfer title and no proof
of insurance.
8:49 a.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported
that he just received a death threat.
1:20 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported
that his wife went out to walk the dogs
and has been gone an unusually long
time.
3:00 p.m., Grand Marais: Caller reported
that a car parked on West Eighth
Avenue has a hawk on the front seat,
and it appears it may be blind. A deputy
checked and learned that the hawk was
found injured on the highway.

Sunday, May 8

9:40 a.m., Grand Marais: Theft of
stained glass from an unlocked storage
cabin reported. The owner said she had
a suspect.
5:58 p.m., Tofte: Thunder Bay man,
43, cited for speeding and DWI after a
motorist complained about his erratic
driving from Silver Bay.
