The Cook County School District is pleased to release the names of students in Grades 6-12 on the “A” and “B” Honor Rolls for the first quarter of the 2010-11 School Year. Students who earned no quarterly grade lower than an A- are identified as the “A Honor Roll.” Students who have earned no quarterly grade lower than a B- and at least one grade lower than an A- are be identified as the “B Honor Roll.”

The criteria for earning the Honor Roll recognitions have become more stringent this year. The new criteria specify that all grades must meet that “A” or “A and B” level, as opposed to an overall average. All parents and students were notified of this change in August 2010, it was discussed with students at the beginning of the year and published in the Student Handbook that each student receives.
Principal Gwen Carman explains, “The tradition of the quarterly Honor Rolls is an important opportunity for us to publicly recognize our highest achieving students. The stricter Honor Roll criteria are in response to frequent criticism we had received previously for having too many students on the Honor Rolls. I know there are some students and parents who are disappointed about the new higher standards. We will monitor the number of students on our Honor Rolls this year compared to previous years and discuss in the spring whether adjustments need to be made. I welcome any input on the Honor Roll criteria at any time.”
