Cook County Highway Engineer Krysten Foster recently announced that she is leaving her dual positions in Lake and Cook County to accept an offer from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT).
Krysten has served as the highway engineer for Cook and Lake County since February 2018.
Cook County sought to fill the highway engineer position following the resignation of Dave Betts in July 2017, but couldn’t find a replacement. Betts left his post to accept another job out of the county.
Lake County agreed to assign Foster to spend approximately 20-25 hours per week to perform the engineering duties for Cook County.
Foster was no stranger to working with the Cook County Highway Department staff. She filled in for several months following Betts departure, providing engineering services for the County Road 7 project.
When asked about her new role, Krysten replied, “At the end of May, I will succeed John McDonald as District State-Aid Engineer for Northeastern Minnesota,” said Foster. “This role provides engineering leadership, counsel, and technical advice to Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, Pine and St. Louis Counties, eight state-aid cities, small cities and townships involved in federal-aid and state-aid construction projects in this region. Developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with elected officials, local engineering staff and other agencies as part of MnDOT’s District 1 Management Team is another important part of my new job.
“In closing, I want to thank Highway Department staff, community stakeholders, other colleagues and Commissioners from both counties for many fond memories from the six years that I worked along the North Shore.”
