Cook County Higher Education 25th Anniversary Block Party

CCHE is hosting a Block Party on September 18, 2022, at the CCHE campus on West Third Street from 1-3pm. Please come help celebrate 25 years of service to the community with the North Shore Swing Band, cake, coffee, cider and caramel apples! Join your friends and neighbors for games, raffles, bingo and face-painting.

In the early 1990s, Cook County took a look at educational opportunities available to its residents and considered pursuing the creation of a community college. A needs assessment determined that the county could not support it. However, in 1996, the results justified receiving a three-year $163,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to operate the Cook County Higher Education Distance Education Resource Center as an alternative to a bricks-and-mortar facility.

In 1998, Cook County Higher Education was officially incorporated with a board of seven members for “the promotion and coordination of higher education opportunities in Cook County, Minnesota.” For 25 years, this purpose has persevered. The organization has grown in size and scope, but providing local access to college education and training remains as critical to Cook County now as it was then.
