The Minnesota Chapter of the National Football Foundation has named Cook County High School’s Adam Dorr a Scholar Athlete. This annual award honors Minnesota high school football players for their outstanding athletic, academic and community service accomplishments. Dorr, a Grand Marais, Minnesota native, is one of nine scholar-athletes who will be recognized during a July television broadcast.
Dorr was the Cook County Vikings’ senior captain and earned First Team All-District honors. He played quarterback, strong safety and handled the team’s placekicking and punting duties. Dorr also holds the school’s single-season records for passing attempts and completions.
“Adam is one of the hardest working student athletes that I have worked with in my 30 years of coaching,” said Cook County High School head football Coach Mike Prom. “He will graduate from Cook County as one of the most academically honored players in the history of the school.”
In the classroom, Dorr posted a 4.098 GPA and was named a National Merit Scholar semifinalist. He also earned Academic All-State honors from the Minnesota Football Coaches Association. During his high school career, Dorr made a difference in his city by posting more than 1,000 total community service hours. He actively volunteered at his church, coached youth sports teams and assisted many local organizations. Dorr lives more than 260 miles from Minneapolis and is the northernmost recipient of this award.
Minnesota Football Honors is hosting a show to honor this year’s high school, college and Minnesota Vikings award winners. The broadcast is set to air in July. Special guests, including Vikings players, are scheduled to make appearances. An official broadcast date will be announced soon on www.minnesotafootballhonors.com.
