Why do I love living in Cook County, Minnesota?
An epiphany brought an answer to this question I had not even asked myself. The reason is the women. I have always admired strong women of purpose.
This county is full of inspiring dedicated and motivated women. Some have wealth but most are not money powered. You can see the results in education, social work, churches, businesses of all types and government. In all the strata of our community women dream, produce, strive and achieve in ways I have not seen in the other places I have lived.
I am not saying this does not happen in other places, but here the evidence is so clear. Women here do all the usual and expected activities, such as marry, have children, and maintain homes. In addition to those activities they have built a caring, prosperous community. I’m not so naive as to extoll our community as if we have solved all our problems.
The pursuit in problem solving is far from over, but I have faith in continual success, overall. This is a thank you note: to all the women contributing, in what may seem small ways to you, and I am sure there are many more to add to the ones I know personally. Thank you for all you do, women of Cook County!
