Summer is here and the living is easy, right? But not for everyone.
With the advent of warm weather the need for volunteer help at the Cook County Food Shelf is once again in high demand.
“This year we are experiencing an influx of food shelf clients that are new to the area,” said Gwen Lenz, volunteer coordinator at the food shelf. “Summer has been traditionally hard to schedule volunteers because of flexible vacations,” added Lenz.
Located at the First Congregational Church on Second Street and Third Avenue West in Grand Marais, the food shelf is open every Monday from 3-5 p.m. and on the first Wednesday of the month from 5-7 p.m.
Volunteers will help load boxes or bags with food items or help unload the truck on the first Monday of the month that comes from Second Harvest in Duluth. “We definitely need help unloading the truck,” said Lenz.
“We are also in need of grocery bags,” she said.
