For the Cook County Food Shelf during 2020, it’s been quite a year. Where did you hear that before?
The Food Shelf is located on the lower level of the First Congregational Church at 3rd Avenue West and 2nd Street in Grand Marais, Minnesota. Our PO Box 51 (Grand Marais) has been busy with donations this year, as we help newly unemployed people, under-employed people, and seniors on fixed incomes. We help households with children at home, low-paying job holders and people who just run out of food to feed them. And there are those who just need help with enough groceries for the month because of a financial expense.
We are here to help! We are open every Monday from 3-5 p.m. and now we are open on the first Wednesday of the month from 4:30- 6:30 p.m. The Food Shelf requests that each household come only once a month as our resources have been small. BUT if you need food, do come in again or call Gwen at 218-387-9860 to see if we can help you.
“All of this help” comes from generous caring individuals, community groups, “Hunger Heroes,” “Empty Bowls,” and customers from the Whole Foods Co-op, Johnson’s Foods, and Gene’s IGA – People like you!
Gratitude! Finally, that’s a better word to describe THIS year. The Cook County Food Shelf has received wonderful non-monetary donations as well, including cases of face tissue and the ‘all important’ toilet tissue, bags of non-perishable food items, gift cards, personal care items like toothbrushes & soap. Restaurants and resorts helped the food shelf early in the year to get food we couldn’t access because of supply shortages. To all of these folks, a big thank you from the bottom of a grateful heart.
Again, we are the Cook County Food Shelf at 3rd Avenue West and 2nd Street in Grand Marais (the Congregational Church building).
