Cook County experiences second COVID-19 death

As of January 27, there have been 694 cases of COVID-19 in Cook County since the start of the pandemic, 56 of those recorded in the previous seven days.

The county received notice of a confirmed death of a county resident due to COVID-19, which brings the number to two confirmed deaths due to COVID since the start of the pandemic.

The county’s COVID website has different numbers than the state’s COVID website. That’s because the Cook County Public Health and Human Services include over-the-counter antigen positive results reported to either Cook County PHHS or Grand Portage Health Service.

“These over-thecounter antigen tests are not reported to the Minnesota Department of Health, so there is an ongoing discrepancy between local and state data. Please also know that not all over-the-counter positive results are reported locally, so the. Weekly and cumulative totals are an undercount of the actual cases in the community,” states the website.

Out of a population of 5,600, Cook County has 4,348 fully vaccinated residents as of January 27, 2022.
