Cook County DFL urges Cook County Board of Commissioners to approve a written consent of refugee resettlement in Cook County, Minnesota

The September 26, 2019, presidential executive order on Refugee Resettlement requires that federal resettlement agencies receive written consent from localities before refugee resettlement occurs. If no action is taken on this matter, Cook County will effectively opt-out as a resettlement location. Timely, affirmative action must be taken to maintain our standing as a welcoming community.

In Cook County we help our neighbors and support those around us unconditionally. Our door is open to those who need refuge. Immigrants and refugees alike, enrich the communities in which they settle; we are honored and grateful to have them as a part of the Cook County fabric. By welcoming the diversification of our community, we are investing in the long-term viability of the county.

Political unrest and the climate catastrophe are creating refugees at an alarming rate. Everybody deserves a dignified home; we have a social responsibility to create that opportunity for others. Therefore, the Cook County DFL urges the Board of Commissioners to approve a written consent of refugee resettlement in Cook County Minnesota. About the Cook County DFL
